Hi friend, I got to visit Taylor Locke at his studio and had a blast! We discussed music, his journey, I drooled over his FANTASTIC guitar collection, and we even had Robert Maune, the studio designer, come by to explain a bit about the design of his studio! It's a great studio and I look forward to recording something there soon! I hope you enjoy the video and please leave lots of questions and comments! Have a marvelous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

Its refreshing to see a studio tour of someone on a more approachable level. Lots of low end mics used creatively to get great results. No console. Not much outboard. As much as id love a huge 64 channel vintage console, £6000 mics and every bit of of outboard imaginable its just not realistic for me, and most of the people watching i imagine. Dont get me wrong I love all of those videos and I watch all the studio tours daily and I will always work towards all of that. I have the most respect for everyone working that way too as its a dream of mine. But its nice to see someone at a more similar level to myself. Keep up the marvelous work Warren.

Hi Warren! I just love love love your videos and thanks so much for doing them. There is one spesific thing in this vid that I am curious about. In the beginning when Taylor thanks you for doing your famous signature intro (which is great by the way), you are starting on a story about why you started doing that intro. But Taylor interrupts you and we never get to hear it... you HAVE to tell us the origin of the marvelous intro. Thanks again. :)

Hi Warren, Glad to see Taylor has a Sebatron. I have the same model and love it, even though I use mine as a voice over pre. Sabastian, the guy who makes them, started building them after working with the Avalanches as he didn't like the pres in the studio they were recording in. They are a great pre and versatile if you take the time to play with them, I know a few studios here in Melbourne that love them.

Loved the talk about Black Sabbath at the end. For me it was British Prog Rock. I got a radio with FM on it for my 11th birthday and a local college station played 3 hours of it every week. I was just obsessed. It just took over. I wouldn't go to MacDonald's or anything, I had to go to Arthur Treacher's, drank tea, and the real killer was I'd spell everything in school in British English....lol. But I learned how to get parts and junk to build better and better hi fi and, of course had to play drums because Phil Collins was the coolest drummer. So I learned electronics and eventually programming as well and don't have to work a "real" job....lol.

I'm loving all of the Cascade Fat Heads in this video. They sound great on everything. As an aside, I believe Howard Stern uses one of the Neumann TLM (not sure which one). But I get what he means. I get the same podcasty, radio announcer vibe when I see an SM7b. Looks aside they are great mics and I see metal guys using them for vocals because they're dynamics and can handle the higher SPLs from screams and whatnot. Beautiful studio and humble guy. Thanks!

I leave out my condenser if i'm doing vocals for the week. I leave it out because I work many hours and as soon as i get up next day i'm working. I have a friend that thought it was weird putting my mic in the case, but he's not working in the music industry to understand lol.

Great comments! Ultimately I leave mine up a lot! I'm tracking everyday, I also turn off my pres when I don't use them, so the mics aren't working. My setup is always ready to go at any creative moment and that to me is the most important thing, however if it was a commercial studio and not my persona studio I would insist that everything be put away every night if not being used the next day. +John Lyell with the right positioning, i've found no need to have the 57. Of course, its a classic combo and you won't go wrong, but try putting a ribbon dead center on the speaker cone (brightest spot), then backing it away a few inches or even a foot to roll off the woofy lows.

Hi there. Its not a stereo mic, its a matched mono pair set up in whats called "mid-side" configuration. Its a classical recording technique. You sum the dual mono channels into a mid-side matrix (a really matrix simple plug in), and it creates a stereo image. It sounds a bit different from x/y, wide-spaced stereo, etc. Give it a try!
