They probably asked for privacy during this difficult time. Not everyone wants their tragedy broadcast over the internet. Their 13-year-old daughter will still have to deal with it. Also, before we automatically blame the parents, look at how many teens are in the news for murder even this past week. Something is wrong with our society, regardless of the parents. These were not happening amongst our youth 30 years ago.

Parents stopped being parents. They expected the school to raise their kids or just let the streets raise....or put a phone in their hands to shut them up. They also stopped whooping butt, growing up me and my brothers got a belt taken to our butts if we messed up. Parents stopped teaching kids manners, respect, morals, values, and responsibility. Sibling rivalry, which is something precipitated by parents, whether consciously or unconsciously. When parents treat their children differently, depending on how much they like said children as individuals. Maybe the 13yo was spoiled (or not) and disliked the 7yo because perhaps the 7yo was doted on by one or both parents. Maybe the parents singled the 13yo for more or worse punishments, and/or responsibilities in the household. Who knows what the real reason was, but I imagine that it will come out in Court. Simmering, pent - up resentment (for whatever reason) can precipitate extreme violence, and yes, even in a 13yo kid. Just some possibilities. Family dynamics can really suck sometimes, and this just may be one of those times.

@josbar2835

Our overall diet on media that promotes sex and violence...because those sell more and gain more of an audience than "Happy Days" or "The Brady Bunch" or "Leave It To Beaver". We have crime channels 24/7, violence in video games, music, even comic books are much more graphic in violence. Children now are getting online through devices that give them access to questionable content and they are also able to harrass each other through cyberbullying. Our society is toxic. It will keep getting worse until we make necessary changes. And we cannot simply blame the parents. That is too easy.

There is something wrong with our entire society. Kids learn from adults and from their surroundings, which include our internet, video games, our TV shows and movies. Graphic violence is even in kids' comic books. More adults are also committing violent crimes. We cannot sit back and blame bad parenting or rap music, anymore.
