I only started listening to current music a year ago--directly in response to the whole bit about her being blocked from performing her own songs at the AMA's. I stopped watching tv in the 1970s bc it was just so stupid. The AMA thing struck me as outrageously stupid on the part of the label. So I listened to reputation; then Lover; then I bought all of her music. I was once an intel analyst and a librarian----so I started on YT with every public interview, and Wikipeidia for bio, discography, and google print articles/interviews. And what has struck me is that she has NEVER really had one genre; she always seems to be willing to experiment with anything, And the other thing that struck me--it comes up everywhere--is that only the songs that "fit" the current album are released. She finishes about 40 songs for each album. I wonder what didn't "fit"??

Emmaaaa, don't worry about Joe, it is like 80% believable that one of the songwriters on this album about mostly _fictional_ characters is actually Joe under a pseudonym. William Bowery is not a registered songwriter so people have been theorizing that it is her man Joe WILLIAM Alwyn. (Edit: My Twitter sources were wrong i apologize, it is Joe Matthew Alwyn BUT Joe's grandfather's name was William and he was a famous composer!) The last name Bowery comes from Bowery Hotel where the lovers met. We basically have proof that the two are still together!

Betty, August, and Cardigan are "The Teenage Love Triangle" Taylor was talking about. For Example Betty is in James' perspective, the line "I was walking home on Broken cobblestones/Just thinking of you." Betty perspective track "Cardigan" makes mention of cobblestons in the first two lines "Vintage tee, brand new phone/High heels on cobblestones." Hope that helps Love Bug💜💜

Alize Savim The Last Great American Dynasty is about the couple who owned her house in Rhode Island before her. My Tears Ricochet is about her killing the old Taylor. Epiphany is about her grandfathers experience in the war and also what’s going on in the world now. Betty, Cardigan, and August are a love triangle between made up characters. Seven is written from a child’s perspective. Illicit Affairs is written about an affair. The only songs that I believe are about her real personal life are Invisible String and Peace.

People need to read Taylor's post about this album. This is not just about her anymore. It's about stories she's made up and people she knows. This is personal in a way where it's not just her story anymore, it's more like "welcome into my mind, this is what I think about when I'm walk around in autumn in a forest with my boo and my close friends and when I'm alone with a pen and paper".

I know us Swifties are not used to her not writing about her experiences and how she sees experiences of people she knew. But I really like this new perspective. She literally wrote about a lot of things in this album yet still make it cohesive. She wrote about her house, her grandpa, her and joe, and made up these 3 characters and their affairs. Yet a lot of the lyrics are still relatable in a lot of ways.

It's funny! I think you related the album to Taylor's real life, I was at first too and it terrified me, I was heartbroken for her. But it's really really not about her for majority of the album! At "The last great american dynasty" I realised she was telling fictional stories rooted in Taylor experiences and emotion. In her prologue she writes about fiction and reality becoming indiscernible. When you put enough real emotion and real truths into a fictional story it feels real even if it's fictional stories. So it's about fictional stories, not Taylor's life haha.

At the comments, not Emma.Since neither Karly or Taylor have ever said they were lovers--and neither would have any reason to hide it-----I just get tired of people who insist on shipping them. It is either wishful thinking, or hate mail from homophobes. Tired of both. It reminds me of Taylor's intro to her Grammy Museum performance of Blank Space; the media portrayal of her "standing near some guy---Watch out, guy!!" This is, and always has been, exactly the same over-imaginative invasion of her privacy. As well as Kloss's, who is now (hopefully) happily married. Just stop.

Agreed. I keep seeing comments saying that Karlie and Taylor are secretly together and it’s honestly really annoying. Why can’t fans just accept that Taylor is in a relationship with Joe Alwyn and just be happy for her? I don’t care who she dates as long as she’s happy. This whole Kaylor thing has gotten old. I think My Tears Ricochet is about all of her past lovers and people that left her. She's saying that she cried when they left, but now she's better than ever and they might not be, hence "my tears ricochet".

could be but most probably its more about her past albums that aren’t owned by her. its actually pretty obvious with the lyrics hehe

Love this video. My theory is that My Tears Richochet, Hoax, and Mad Woman all at least partially references Scott. He was like a second father to her, so the betrayal would be devestating. If you really read into the lyrics you can see the parallels. Taylor is very good at writing songs that sound like they're about a romantic breakup but are actually about something else e.g Breathe from Fearless. Anyway, that is my batshit theory way of saying I cannot emotionally cope with a Toe breakup.

Joe and Taylor are still together. Joes brother said it himself some of the songs on the album aren’t about her real life and more of fantasy

Every song is about a different person she knows or has known. And most of the songs are from perspectives of different people.

so taylor said this album is a bunch of stories of people she knew, people she didn’t know, and people she wish she didn’t. she said there’s a love triangle and the three songs are written in each perspective. and it’s cardigan, august, and becky. cardigan is in Becky’s perspective because james cheated on her with inez. august is in inez’s pov because her and james had a summer fling and he was hers to loose cause he was never hers. Becky is in Jame’s pov because he realized he made a mistake and is going to try and apologize to becky

Remember when Taylor dressed up like a disco ball? And she was named for a folk artist, and did a Crossroads event with Def Leopard. So I am pretty sure she was aware of ALL the previous music (but likely not the tv show or the missile defense system: Mirror ball From Wikipedia Mirror ball or Mirrorball may refer to: Mirror Ball (Neil Young album), 1995, featuring Pearl Jam Mirrorball (Sarah McLachlan album), 1999 Mirrorball (Def Leppard album), 2011 "mirrorball", a song by Taylor Swift from her 2020 album folklore ****** "Mirrorball", a song by Paul Weller from his 2020 album On Sunset "Mirrorball", a song by Blur from their 2015 album The Magic Whip *** "it's all just a blur" IFYE "Mirrorball", a song by Elbow from their 2008 album The Seldom Seen Kid "Mirrorball", a song by Everything But the Girl from their 1996 album Walking Wounded "Mirror Ball" (song), a 2008 maxi-single by Japanese rock band Alice Nine Mirrorball (TV pilot), 2000 UK sitcom one-off Mirror-ball (missile defense), US infra-red guided missile countermeasure device See also: Disco ball Yard globe

The ones that sound like breakup songs aren’t about Joe. They’re stories she made up. Invisible String is probably about him. He still follows her Instagram and has been liking her posts since she dropped the album
