I think its because the record label was scared because its too pop and Taylor hasn't transitioned to pop fully at the time. However, this track is a Max Martin and Shellback production. They are partly to credit for the success of 1989.

I'm guessing this was one of the last sings she wrote for Red but it didn't fit the rest of the vibe. Shame is wasn't released on 1989 initially cause it goes perfectly with that album.

I bet there were more pop songs but we know that miss tay doesnt always pick the best stuff so i bet she scrapped them because she wanted a more synthy sound UGH
