The jewels she gave him (Scott Borchetta) were the albums that went gold, platinum, and diamond.

Dolly Parton wrote I Will Always Love You about a business partner, too. Some great songs written about people do business with lol

I get so mad when people don’t appreciate “if I’m dead to you, why are you at the wake?” 😡 SUCH A GREAT LINE

The most beautiful song about business malfeasance in history. lol. 500 people will comment to confirm, yes, it's about her old label head, Scott. Who she knew from when he first signed her when she was like 14 years old. He was like family and then he betrayed her by not letting her buy her albums (well he offered to let her... only in return for her making an equal amount of new ones for the label). She refused. He sold them to Scooter Braun who then resold them to an investment company. Anyway. We all have at least one moment in life where we realize someone around us (a boss, a family friend, whatever) who is 'like family' isn't actually your family and they fail to live up to what you thought they were to you.

Scooter wanted to silence her and tell her what she could and couldn’t do. Ironically Kelly Clarkson was like why don’t you just redo them. Taylor sends her flowers now for each album and scooter got mad at Kelley and re-sold the masters

Scott Borchetta was her longtime manager and friend. He owned the first label that Taylor was signed to. It was a small indie label and she made them a lot of money. When she wanted to leave the label to explore other avenues, Scott got mad. Allegedly in an unrelated move, and without giving her the fair opportunity, he sold the masters to all of Taylor’s music to Scooter Braun, who Taylor despised. It was a gut punch to Taylor and the end of a 15 year friendship. Now she’s re-recording and getting the last laugh.

Huh? No he wasn’t. Scott isn’t a manager. He was the owner of Big Machine Records. He sold Big Machine, which with it included - among many others - the masters of Taylor’s first six albums. Scott sold Big Machine to Scooter without giving Taylor the opportunity to purchase her masters first. Which would have made the sale to Scooter significantly less. You took the truth and twisted it to be some villainous act. That’s how business and corporations work. It’s ugly, unfair, and despicable. But that’s what they do.

So every Long Pond session should also come with an interview with her and Jack (guy on the piano) or Aaron (guitarist, owns Long Pond). They’ll discuss the song they’re about to perform, how they created it working in different parts of the country, and what the song is about. (If you don’t know, this album was written and recorded while they were all isolated in different parts of the country. This studio session is the first time the three of them got together to perform the songs.)
