Taylor described this album as "It's an album about finding love throughout all the noise." Even though this album has a heavier, more abrasive sound, at the heart and core of it, it is an album about love.
@marlikauffman4994

Reputation is a love album hidden behind themes of Revenge. All of the dissonant sounds and production being cut through by gorgeous, melodic clean tones symbolize Taylor’s experience of finding love and choosing to focus on that in the midst of so much noise. I think its message can get clouded behind the production and visuals but it’s really just about her finding love while her public persona was being torn apart in the media and online

folklore is not just stories. It is allegorical with strong ties to what she was dealing with at time she wrote it. She was experiencing a devastating time in her career (losing her life's work, the sale of her masters) The songs are about betrayal, loss, coping, sadness, thinking of the past, what if's... many can relate to these emotions. Very few would relate to Taylor's exact situation. People love her music because of how honest and relatable it is, so she creates characters and stories with those exact feelings/emotions/dynamics. Stories that people can relate to. Track 5, my tears ricochet is central to the album.

@@Melissa-oo3xk After 17 years of dominating the business, STILL the only way she can get critics & the media to focus on the *music* is by telling them it's "all" fictional. folkmore is a tapestry of her life mixed in with enough relatable stuff to make the songs "universal but relatable" like Jim said. You know, so that people will stop talking about her boyfriends. People STILL say she only writes about boys and break-ups, but she is so so so much more than that. Jim - I'm so happy you liked it! It was really fun watching someone skeptical come in with an open mind and really absorb the entire piece of work. I love the Delicate music video! I've seen people say that it's cringy, and it's a grown woman dancing badly, and she should be embarrassed, but I think those people either hate taylor unconditionally, or they don't get it. To me it's like seeing the freedom invisibility would offer to be her imperfect self in all it's glory. She's imperfect, awkward, silly, and real. Those are my favorite kind of people because I'm a hot mess imperfect express in my own way. It's another thing I love about Taylor Swift. She can joke about herself.

Not only do I love Taylor Swift, the artist, the brilliant lyricist, and the pristine wordsmith, but your breakdown of her art was refreshingly honest and insightful. You nailed most of it, even as just a new casual listener. That's hard to do with Taylor. She deals in masterful metaphors, double entendres, and killer hooks and bridges. Every word is intentional and precisely placed to elicit maximum bang for the buck. If that intrigues you, you're in for a magical experience when you discover her remarkable discography. Bon Voyage! I cannot recommend Evermore enough. I love that Folklore is the telling of stories and passing them down, like folk music always did, but Evermore is more about moving on from something. Accepting it, processing it, and ultimately healing from those things. I really needed that this year and I know that I will come back to it when I need a reminder that all is not lost and I will get through this. Both albums are a testament to her ability to tell stories that don't necessarily come from her own experiences. She's more than just a girl writing songs about boys, 100% worth a listen and I look forward to hearing your take on them :)

She's such a great song writer and has always been a great song writer. I kinda don't like it, when swifties only refer to folklore and evermore as her "best lyrical album" and calling rep her weakest lyrical album. And I'm not here for the Lover slander, that album is a no skip album for me. I think some ppl just don't like it cos she's so happy in that album. So please react to LOVER.

I think this is the best reaction video I've ever seen (and I have seen dozens in the past few months). I hope you will consider doing several more of Taylor's albums. Folklore and evermore are essential. With folklore, you might consider going straight to the movie: "Folklore: The Long Pond Sessions." You would get all of the music, plus you see her and her collaborators playing it and talking about the creation process. (Technically, they are re-creating, at the Long Pond studios, what they all did in their separate places during covid lockdown so it's not 100% identical to the album, but for all practical purposes the same.) BTW, I am a relatively new swifty (I started falling down the rabbit hole last February and have been entranced by all 10 of Taylor's albums ever since. Ideally, after folklore and evermore, you really should consider Lover and Midnights. If, like me, you find yourself in a feeding frenzy,, I suggest Red. I love 1989 as well, but those songs were such big hits that you probably already know most of them. In any case, thanks for this fantastic video and I will be watching fo rmore.

How personal the lyrics are is what makes Taylor Swift so special. She puts her private thoughts and feelings into these songs and then she puts them out for everyone to listen to. And her fans listen to her describing these feelings and experiences and connect with the lyrics that perfectly describe things they have also felt or experienced. And then she walks on to a stage in a stadium of 70,000 people and sings out those diary entries and all of those 70,000 people who heard those songs for the first time and said “yes. Exactly. Me too” sing them back to her and it’s incredible

Dancing With Our Hands Tied is about her and Joe. In secret sessions she said that this song was about how she was leaving the gym and the paparazzi caught her and were making awful comments about her weight gain which made her start to worry about what they would say when they find out she was dating Joe. She tried to breakup with Joe and told him she didn’t want him to start getting hate from the public and he straight up said no and that he didn’t care at all. So the song was about all the worry about the public, but staying with him anyways

A lot of KZitemrs just dive in without context and then everyone in the comments explains the story behind the songs. For an artist like Taylor swift that discloses a lot of her personal life in her songs, this is really the best way to do it. A ton of her songs are about something specific and if you don’t know it then you’d be lost. The whole Kanye drama brought us gems like the rep album, mad woman, vigilante shit. Even losing her masters turned into songs like my teats ricochet. Also, if you feel bad about the breakup after listening to reputation, you’ll be heartbroken after Lover! Loll

This is an absolutely incredible reaction, I’m so glad I stumbled across your channel! I really love how you articulate your thoughts and back it up with your music knowledge! Taylor is one of my favorite artists and has been for such a long time! This album is one of my favorites from her! Not to be one of those people but as soon as I heard you mention that you enjoy artists who you are able to relate to and are able to keep themselves humble I just had to leave this comment recommending Louis Tomlinson’s work! He’s a person I’ve followed for over 10 years now and in that time he’s been so authentically himself (especially in recent years in regards to making sure he’s making the music he wants to rather than going for big radio plays which I appreciate so much!) I feel like you would really enjoy his music and lyrics! He currently has two albums out one which is called Walls and his second which is called Faith in the Future! I cannot recommend this man enough, I really feel like you would appreciate the direction his music has gone in in recent years! It’s tough to get people to give his music a chance given his origin/start in the music industry and I feel like if people were to give his solo music a chance they’d find that it isn’t what they thought! Once again, thank you so much for this Taylor reaction and I can’t wait to see more reactions from you! :]

@@JimGames Very exciting to hear! I’d also like to add that he has released a track-by-track series where he talks a little about each track from his albums too which are definitely worth a listen in between each track so you can get a feel for what each one’s about and what kind of a person he is whilst talking about his music! A little added context for one of the songs: (trigger warning for discussion of someone passing away and cancer) Two of Us which is a song about his Mother’s passing which happened in late 2016 after a battle with cancer, shortly after One Direction disbanded and 6 days after it was released his younger sister passed away at the age of 18 so it has even more meaning after the fact. It’s a beautiful tribute and I feel like it’s important to have context for this one specifically. As I said, I can’t wait to see your future reactions! You’re a very engaging person to watch whilst also giving people new insight on more technical elements of songs they’ve listened to and loved for years, kudos to you! :]

My favorite album from her, but definitely you have to continue reviewing her discography, every single album is different from each other. Continue with folklore or evermore, then midnights or lover, you can do after 1989 or red (Taylor’s Version), and finish everything with her first three albums. I was never a swiftie my self, but as soon as you enter to her world, you can’t get out. Watching her documentary, long pond sessions, and the Reputation tour live is a must; I know is a lot of work for you, but all of the swifties we are going to be there to watch your reactions. You are a cool man.

if you're gonna react to any more live performances from this era, you have to do I Did Something Bad and Don't Blame Me, from the tour...like others are great too, eg Dancing With Our Hands Tied acustic, ut those two are just top tier. Also those you watched were quite stripped from the original, in that video you watched she left out one whole verse of Look What You Made Me do which she sang on the tour, and in End Game she sings her verse on the tour, here it wasn't included.

I love your Taylor Swift reaction videos so much. Thanks for putting so much time and effort into understanding her music lyrically and appreciating the massive production of her songs and sharing your thoughts with us. I recommend checking out her 1989 tour live rock versions of "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Very cool twist on her most popular and probably most disliked songs. We want a T.S. rock album!!!

“Melodies are unhinged” exactly! While I love that Taylor’s known for her lyricism but her talent of coming up with unique and catchy melodies is so underrated.

Oh man, "I Did Something Bad" live version in the Rep Stadium Tour movie is next level. Takes a great song and turns it up to 11. I hope you've seen it. In fact, that version of Don't Blame Me is ridiculously good too. Hell, that whole movie never gets old for me.

If you ask swifties Folklore and Evermore is a mix of autobiographical and fictional. Folklore album has a few songs that in my opinion are autobiographical like “My Tears Ricochet", about her old record label Big Machine Records/ Scott Borchetta, "Mirrorball" (about us her fans), "This Is Me Trying". "Invisible Stings" and "Peace" (definitely for Joe), “Mad Woman", “Hoax". “The Lakes" about escaping with Joe. Evermore album has "Willow", "Gold Rush", "Long Story Short" which about Joe. "Marjorie" about her grandmother, "Evermore" is about her depression, here’s some songfacts- she went through a bunch of bad experiences in the second half of 2016, including the public condemnation following her spat with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian over the rapper's "Famous" lyrics. Motion capture Put me in a bad light I replay my footsteps on each stepping stone Trying to find the one where I went wrong Kim Kardashian posted on her Snapchat account an edited recording of a phone call between Swift and West, which seemed to show her approving a "Famous" lyric that she had scorned in public. Swift was widely portrayed her as a manipulative liar. There were several other incidents that damaged her reputation, including a fall out with Calvin Harris following the end of their relationship. Swift struggled with her public downfall and the whole experience took a toll on her mental health. She said: "All those times were just sort of taking it day-by-day to get through, trying to find a glimmer of hope, all of that." The song is not all doom and gloom. The redemptive ending finds Swift starting to feel better as she thinks fondly of someone close to her. She concludes that "this pain wouldn't be for evermore." Again, this ties in with Swift singing of her "Cruel Summer" in 2016 as that tough period coincided with the start of her relationship with the British actor Joe Alwyn. And lastly "It’s Time To Go" "It's Time to Go" is a bleak song where Swift depicts different situations when relationships have run their course. Many, if not all of the scenarios, are believed by Swifties to be based on actual events in the singer's personal life. During the first verse, Swift depicts the ending of a friendship. When the words of a sister come back in whispers That prove she was not in fact what she seemed Not a twin from your dreams She's a crook who was caught Fans believe this is about fashion model Karlie Kloss, Swift's best friend from 2014 through 2016. They suspect the pair had a fall out; the pop star then felt betrayed when Kloss started hanging out with her nemesis, Scooter Braun. The second verse starts with a tale of someone losing out on promotion at work to an unfit individual. Twenty years at your job Then the son of the boss gets the spot that was yours Swift's father, Scott, is a former stockbroker who established the Swift Group, a financial advisory group that is part of Merrill Lynch. This may be about obstacles he encountered in his career, The songstress continues the verse by recounting a marriage that has run its course. Or trying to stay for the kids When keeping it how it is will only break their hearts worse Swift's parents were married for 25 years before separating in the early 2010s. Worried about offsetting their daughter's career, they kept their marital issues from the press. The third verse finds Swift seeming to address her broken relationship with former Big Machine Records label boss Scott Borchetta. Fifteen years, fifteen million tears Begging 'til my knees bled I gave it my all, he gave me nothing at all Then wondered why I left Swift signed with Scott Borchetta's Big Machine Records in 2004. Shortly after she left Big Machine 14 years later to sign with Republic, news broke that Borchetta had sold the label, along with the master recordings to her first six albums, to entertainment mogul Scooter Braun. Swift felt betrayed by her former label boss and has compared the breakdown of their relationship to the end of a marriage. She also referenced the deal on several other songs, including Folklore's "My Tears Ricochet" and "Mad Woman." Swift concludes in the chorus and the post chorus that when a relationship turns toxic, the bravest thing to do is to walk away. She tweeted: "'It's Time To Go' is about listening to your gut when it tells you to leave."

Your reaction tonight to this album was geat. Your interpretations were spot on. At times it did feel invasive. To live in the spotlight 24/7 can’t be easy and to have your personal life dissected down to the last word spoken is no one’s business. The album was genuine and soul bearing. Taylor is a true story teller blessed with a fabulous voice and musical talent!

Wow, nice rx. Would love to follow your journey if you are going to do another. Folklore would be a 180. Its AOTY. Lyrically heavy, a lot of storytelling, but 1/2 is about her as well. Evermore is second to folklore (I prefer evermore) and again 1/2 is about her life as well but a lot of story telling. Actually evermore has some Reputation running through it, whereas folklore doesnt. These are adventurous in that they it’s a genre shift for her, blending folk/indie with pop. Nothing else sounds quite like it. She had been dating Joe for 4 yrs when she wrote folklore, in 3 months. Didn’t tell her label until a week before she surprise dropped it. All albums are very different. Each album has a different aesthetic, sound, theme, color, time of year, and story (aka ERA). I think you need a 180 after Reputation. I’d try folklore. I’m an over middle aged professor, and I started listening to her with folklore 2020, pandemic. Why would i have ever listened to TS? well, i realized I was very wrong at that point. I just needed her to catch up.

I’d love to see him get whiplash moving on to Folklore next! I hope he watches the Long Pond studio sessions where she discusses the meaning behind the songs with Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner first, then watch her sing it in the studio. It helps with understanding the lyrics so much! Her singing with Aaron and Jack playing is amazing!

red, 1989, and folklore are her strongest lyrically (imo) and are all amazing albums that you would probably really enjoy. evermore is a sister album to folklore, it's tracks that were recorded for folklore but didn't fit the feel of the album, she released them because she felt they were a continuation of the album. taylor is really great and i'd be here to watch any reactions you do of her!
