I would actually love to see Taylor turn Folklore and Evermore into a fantasy movie. She obviously could easily do it, and it would be a magical experience.

Folklore feels more like a TV show. If she picks up the characters from the teenage love triangle and unravel their lifes, I'm sure she can interconnected everything. I can imagine Illicit Affairs being about a grown up Augustine, I can imagine James' great-grandfather being the one in Epiphany, I can imagine This Is Me Trying being about James and Betty struggling with the process of growing up.

I'm a middle aged white guy with no kids. I have heard Taylor Swift songs here and there over the years, sometimes on the radio, thought she is a talented musician but wasn't a huge fan. This past week I went to see the Eras Tour in the theater on opening day, for a matinee. Firstly, what a show! I thought it was amazing. I'm a musician and have been a fan of many artists spanning nearly a century of pop, rock, and other genres. Taylor is an amazing songwriter and performer. Secondly, I'm now a fan, because as you say, she is a sharp business woman too. She's the man. Personally I would love both if indie filmmakers could start making deals with movie theaters as well as to see more "live" concert experiences in the movie theater.

I just wanted to pop in and say that there is huge potential screening virtual concerts in movie theaters. With the use of Zoom and Audiomovers, we take audio and video signals coming from musicians rehearsing at home … and we screen this LIVE performance inside a movie theater. it’s like the screen is a window looking into the musicians room while they’re performing 🎶

She has the boldness that those Hollywood execs lack. While they're like "What's trending? Let's do that" and and producing the next Oscarbaiting movie picture, while underestimating people's intelligence, Taylor be like "how can I convince people to come onboard with my ideas?", and that's the reason why she keeps on winning. Taylor love rewards, but she also loves being loved by people. She'll never say "you don't like my work because you don't understand geniuses"; instead, she'll say something like "I failed to build the bridges between me, the critics and the public, I'll do better next time". She doesn't want to be cult, she wants to be popular and understood. That's the major difference between her and most male directors. And those 2 aspects are powerful when combined.

Yes, she even addressed this in one of her old interviews. If her any album didn't get nomination or an award and the interviewer asked, "Is she feeling sad about it. Denying Taylor Swifts talent and influence and innovative creativity would be insane. I’d say I’m only a 30% “Swiftie” but this woman’s fandom is powerful, so anything she ends up making would be a blockbuster, and force other filmmakers to possibly adapt simply due to that. Hopefully she starts some actual trends that film companies can latch on to (also ‘So it goes’ is my favourite of hers it’s so underrated, I wasn’t expecting to hear it was yours too.)

Couple of quick thoughts: 1) The traditional studios did know this project was in the works as they'd had discussions about it with Taylor and her management team. From what I remember the main sticking point was the release schedule with studios wanting to put it out after the tour was done (though I'm sure financial issues and creative control were likely in there too). What they didn't know about was the deal with AMC until the day of announcement. 2) Outside of a very small handful of people I can't see this model working unless the cinema companies REALLY up their game on distribution and, more importantly, marketing. Promoting this release was the easiest gig in history: picture of Taylor next to "Taylor Swift, Eras Tour, throw credit card at screen for tickets" and jobs a good 'un. It's not as if the various chat shows etc need an excuse to book her either. Very different story for those without that sort of clout. Ultimately what's going to be really interesting is seeing how much risk the cinema chains are willing to take on. They've always been in the awkward position of being middle-men, reliant on Hollywood for their product and that business model has been under threat for a while now. Do they take the risk of effectively becoming mini-studios knowing that they could easily find themselves locked out of potentially lucrative releases either from the traditional studios or, indeed, other cinema chains? Let's face it there are hundreds of independent films looking for distibution deals every year as it is, that's nothing new. The question is whether someone takes the gamble or not....
@chaseazarian

Great points right here! I could have sworn I heard the same thing where she brought it up to studios before that passed on it for now, but I couldn't find any articles about it while researching so I didn't want to bring it up in case I was wrong lol, but if that's the case I like that even MORE for AMC, cause it's like "Of course we'll take it!". It's definitely a very different type of model that I think would only work for very specific types of projects from bigger directors or actors, but I think it could develop into something. If Christopher Nolan wanted to make another smaller film like Memento, it might not do Eras Tour numbers, but I'm sure it's still a damn good movie that is profitable on a small enough budget. Either way, it's at least a little bit of hope! Thanks for the comment!

Actually advertising only comes a little bit from the cinema itself. Majority of the advertising comes from the distributors of the movie. And unfortunately they don’t really advertise anywhere but in cities, because they don’t see it doing anything when it makes all the difference. I work at an independent cinema where advertising from us can only span from our website and posters inside the venue. Distributors don’t send us any merchandise like other cinemas because of their absurd requirements that mean only high-end cinemas and chain cinemas can get merch. Barely anyone in my town has heard anything of Blue Beetle so we got barely anyone seeing it in the last few weeks. Whereas the city cinema 30 mins away was near full capacity because of advertising in cities and not in non-cities.

"Fund it yourself" is a fun sentence until it stands for 100-400 million dollars... And the thing to remember is that there is no guarantee you are going to get your money back. For small films releasing without a big studio is business as usual and there is only the production company or a couple of them involved who handle the process of getting the financing. Eras tour movie has no where near the budget of a normal production. Most of the art direction has already been done... for the tour. The performers are hired, trained and preforming... for the tour (excluding some bonus they might get from the movie/extra work hours). Marketing has been done... for the tour (at least I have not seen any paid ads for the Eras Tour Movie). And the main performer does not have to pay for herself 😂. Also AMC knew the Eras Tour movie 100% would sell at least enough to be financially profitable for them.

One of my most favourite songs of recent years has in fact been Demi Lovato's Warrior. But Demi Lovato -no offence intended- is not a stand out person. Taylor is known for her humour, her ditziness, her love of her fans, her amazing storytelling through lyrics, her generosity, she is just the most well rounded person in the world today everyone would love to be her. @@evacody1249 trend indicates something goes in and out of popularity. Artists for the past couple of years continued to do concert movies but opted to just have it on streaming platforms like Netflix or just have it be a part documentary. Just recently (post covid) we're seeing it return to movie theaters with big premiers and stronger marketing. If I had to guess artists will begin to market them a lot more and make it their own event with encouraging people to dress up and acting like its a real concert.

@meh5872 🤦♂️🙄 they are called live shows that are filmed. It has been going on for so long that it's not a trend.

fans speculate that her movie will be a rebekah harkness biopic bc of her song last great american dynasty (a song about rebekah through her rhode island 'holiday house' which taylor later bought)

Damn wish all cinemas got booked out like that. Cinema I work at had no more than 20 people in a session for Taylor. The cities got booked out because they got sent merch cups and had advertising everywhere. But rural (anywhere but a city) cinemas get no advertising, no merch, no nothing. And for further context, no it’s not about the larger population size in cities. Let’s say about 8/10 people in cities went to Taylor movie this past weekend. Only 2/10 would go see it in rural towns. It’s the same with every movie we get, when considering population differences, cities still do significantly better. All because of advertising and special deals and merch that is not offered or given to other cinemas like mine. Mine being the one I work at, not own.

I used to not like so it goes. It was the only reputation song I didn’t immediately like. It has since grown on me and probably my favorite rep song

I would LOVE to see a Taylor Swift jukebox musical movie, a la La La Land. We already know she can act. All her hits in one movie, starring Tay Tay. Make it happen, cap'n.
