Thanks for the explanation Becky. It was educational for somebody who isn’t into farming. As you are in contact with the farmer and the cattle do you have to wear any extra protection to stop the spread to you?
@beckygiles
Жыл бұрын
Great question, No extra protection needs to be worn, but as we always do , disinfecting boots and over trousers , as well as inside the trailer , some farms we disinfect the wheels ect before entering

Thanks for the vid. Any extra chemicals needed for the wash down after a TB farm pick up , or dipping on entry etc. ? I was born in the country but did not know farmers or 'legal' red tape needed.... You live and learn thanks Becky.

Here in Canada we have pretty much eliminated TB in domestic animals but wild Elk are still a problem in some places.
@scottogden6301

Silly question but how does it work if the animal has TB can we still get it from them by they’re saliva or would it be a case of you’d have to be in a situation where they somehow bite you and you’d get it I know cows don’t really bite but it’s a genuine question sorry guys if it sounds stupid 🤣
@beckygiles
Жыл бұрын
It’s past by breathing in the bacteria, that’s how it is spread. But it is extremely rare for us humans to do that from them

Hi Becky I was just wondering what happens if a cow goes down in your lorry and won’t get back up when you reach your destination. I also believe that they can tell when they are going into an abattoir as you can always see them smelling the air. Congratulations on a wonderful channel and your BTS on this way of life.

Hi great question, So if one goes down and wont get up by itself , Then they always have a vet onsite, the vet would take over care, make sure the animal is safe and well, it may be helped to its feet with a special lift, then walked to a nice warm pen of straw , the vet would continue care as needed, Yes this is true, its like when you go to the doctors it has that smell about it.
@trevormcfarland9572
Жыл бұрын
@@beckygiles thank you so much for your reply and I totally agree with you as I’ve seen this happen before. Sometimes the vet may have to make a whole different decision if the animal doesn’t recover but usually that’s a rare occurrence.

Why do you not wear gloves when working in the back of the trailer. My grandson is dyslexic so I know what you have to go through Keep up the excellent videos I really enjoy them
@beckygiles
Жыл бұрын
Some people do, I personally find it easier to handle gates ect without gloves and easier to wash hands when finished, also would need to be careful wearing same gloves across multiple farms,
