2290 gets my vote. I used one in my guitar rig for years and years. I still have the rig, but I don't play out so much these days. I had the 2290. a Yamaha SPX90's and a Lexicon PCM 90 going into a Rane SM 26 line mixer going into an H&H power amp. Those were the good ol days.

They sure were. I think a lot of people are realising that nothing can really do what those units do, that is except for my Axe-Fx III Mk II! Rack rigs weren't such a silly idea after all.

Both amazing units... it's so cool that we can get this quality of sound from pedals today. Still, a nice rack looks cooler than a pedal.

+Guitar Whores Only if you are deaf to nuances. The emulators are not quite there. Especially TC 2290 it has that amazing warmth. Just something in the natural harmonics. Gigging may not show against the budget boxes, but in a studio environment, it's easy to hear. Both great units.

The preamp one the sdd300 wins hands down for a sound thats more pleasing to the ear. The 2290 offers more option but the Korg is more pleasing and stirs more emotion...in my opinion.

I have the 2290, apart from the awesome sounds, I like the comprehensive front panel, everything is there, and is intuitively there. You do not need to go menu diving which is a typical Japanese trait. Incidentally most of my analogue synths are Japanese well not the Prophet n Moog, I am a big Roland fan.

Obviously I am pro (not anti) Japanese gear I have a shed load, of 80's kit. What I like about my 2290 is everything is there on the front panel one deep, unlike a lot of my later Jap modules, which need a lot of menu diving (on horrible tiny screens, I think we bought them for the sounds, T1 (still my master weighted full size keyboard), roland jv and D series boxes, n1. Was not inferring you need to menu dive on sdd delays By the way nice balanced review Love my TC 2290, NEVER HAD TO READ THE MANUAL

Thanks man, I just bought the SDD3000 Rack, very happy and can't wait to use it. I guess I will end up having both. I'd like to use it not only in guitars, but also for synths. In that regard, I guess that maybe the TC is a better choice as it also has stereo inputs? What do you think? THANKS!

Both sound really good, I can't pick a victor. Depends on your tastes. I'd want both! Can the EQ on the TC be adjusted to be more similar to the HZ of the KORG? The modulation on the KORG is awesome sounding, but I think that light OD in the preamp of the SD3000 would bother me having it always alter the tone. I wish it could be bypassed so you could get cleaner repeats sometimes. The TC with a light OD would be similar. Also curious how these sound in the FX loop of an amp with light OD

+bluemooncollision Yar! This guy can make them both sound really fine. I'd almost rather he just say THIS one can do THAT which the other one won't, the other one can do THIS not THAT... just TELL ME what to BUY so I'll become a famous filthy-rich Rock Star! (Whoo kin I sue if it don't work?) Which one has the best "Groupie Magnet" knob? Does it still work if it gets wet?

Very cool demo. Strats sound so good through an AC30. I just have the Flashback Delay which is supposed to have the same algorithms as the 2290, but I don't really know if the pedal measures up to the 2290 or not.

Wow how do you get All this Incredible Gear? - 2 Legendary rack-units - right there. I would say the 2290 is better to have, for Studio work & entire mixes: Vocals, Guitars, Drums, Keys. I like the Korg better - for a Guitar Rack Effects Unit = very warm and organic. I'd be happy with either one. Another great comparison.

not much of a delay fan , but I found a Korg sdd 1000 for $125 so I bought it . Very nice analog type mellow quality I like it....Question : why are the 2290 and sdd 3000 so much money ? I see the 2290 for over $1000 on ebay ? Really? What is the sdd 3000 typically going for ? I saw one for $1200 is that a normal price? seems very high ?

The TC 2290 sounds warmer and more organic, if that makes sense for a digital delay. The Korg sounds too brittle in comparison.

Both of them sound great to me! Surprised to hear that you think the Korg sounds brittle. Maybe you had the two delays mixed up? To me the 2290 sounds more pristine and clear and the Korg can sound more warm.

antigen4 That would imply that this guy would use speaker mics to capture the sound of various things... but like most yahoo's they understand pedals, plug these studio processors into their fx loop, of put their guitar into it, then amplify. It the guy would use a mic and listen to the speaker it wouldn't sound so cheapo like pedals. It would sound like the adorable Alnico Blue a la Vox AC30... in other words; sweet.

when was the last time you played a venue big enough for the whole band to be mic'd up. Was the front of house sound in stereo? No. ( Not unless it typically hosts bullshit DJ EDM crap and doesn't really know how to run live sound.) This is absolutely a very useful demonstration for pro performing musicians. If you really want to hear these units in stereo they were both utilized on about a hundred gold or platinum records each . So... not hard to do.
