In my wildest imagination I never imagined the 1812 Overture as a piano piece. But I hadn't heard Valentina play until recently! So this piece was my epiphany, And kudos to Mr Yessipov for his great arrangement, A GREAT piece!

dear Valentina, almost 70, I'm so glad to be living in this time. were it not for youtube I never would have heard of you, nor would i have gone to your concerts in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. now, you play for me almost every day in my livingroom! your keyboard expressiveness sometimes brings me to tears; it is always an inspiration to those of us lesser pianists who have tried all our lives to play the masters. i have just listened to your performance of "1812 overture" -- hearing it makes me want to be russian! you are a beautiful and talented angel sent to us from God to behold His Music. (I still cannot believe you have only ten fingers!) Thank you for your devotion to your fans, but do not let us wear you out.

Oh, Val ... You're always as you are ,, One of the greatest pianists of the twentieth and twenty first centuries,, not because of your exquisite technic, but because of your unique interpretation, your rare sense of the work and the composer, and the audience as well, yes; you posses something ethereal that could transmit your sensations and feelings to your audience, something rarely acquired by an artist ,, I assume it relates to a magnificent mind,,, one thing more, I much liked your little cute assistant, whom I believe he might be your lovely son, he did a good job,, God bless you both.

Valentina - so glad you are entering the world of transcriptions of big pieces never played on the piano. Not that anything has EVER been something you could not conquer! Hope you continue this idea, as certainly few elite pianists dare play such repertoire. And video is the perfect format - as audio does not have parts of what makes this special. Brilliant job Valentina. Sure beats Romeo and Juliet attempts, as you took on a titan of a work.

Oh! Thank you, Golden Goddess! ... whose vast Soul honors the World! ... and with the silvered moon-beams of the North guarding the Taiga, and its hovering Spirit above an unending tapestry of strange life, dark dukhs, and Winter Wrens! You are Valentina Lisitsa, the GREATEST PIANIST of our generation! You must never be humbled by whistle-blowers, or string-scratchers living just at the terminus of the Western Taiga! In the Community and realm of the GREATEST MUSIC, YOU, above all others, should have our Community's greatest orchestras, conductors and instrumentalists whenever it is required by you, or by common sense! You, as the member of the First Estate, should never have to endure humbling by lower eschelons! By the way, I still have your note to me, given not a month after your tremendous victory at London's Prince Albert's Hall. At that time, to receive over a million notices from fans Worldwide, is hardly topped in today;s frantic, false idol-worshipping! What a joy to hear songs from my childhood, and my beloved Mother, and the cold blasts of Winter, as snow flakes force themselves up through the slats and cracks of our old, truly Appalatian shack. Our humble family played Tchaikovski's "June", the "Kamminow-Ostrow, and the "1812" themes. But, where is the Rachmaninoff Prelude that crystallizes in our hearts the Spirit of the Taiga? Do not we, in the Circle of our Community, have people who could send $400 million dollars into our Circle? We don't need to ransom a few fighters, or whatever: we need to once and for all establish a permanent Shrine where the Universal Creator can receive the highest Art of Human Illumination, and in the best form: GREAT MUSIC! ...and of course, you, dear Maestra, are the only one qualified to administer! KMT
One piano still can show the rich texture of the symphony orchestra. Only Valentina Lisitsa can pull this off.

Year ago I use to travel to Votkinsk, Russia on business. I frequently visited the Tchaikovsky museum there. The original (supposedly) piano that Tchaikovsky learned to play on was on exhibit. His father had been a manager of a plant there so that is where he spent his early years. Regardless of the authenticity it was a surreal experience. Overture 1812 has always been my favorite. Transcriptions exist but the transcriptors are not pianists ( except Franz Liszt) . Now some composers try to write Malher'symphonies. But it is impossible . TCHAIKOVSKY IS MY FAVORITE "ALL AROUND" COMPOSER, AND I THANK YOU FOR THIS GREAT TRANSCRIPTION, THAT I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT !!! BUT I MUST ASK YOU THIS QUESTION THAT I WANTED TO ASK FOR A LONG TIME, I KNOW I ONLY HAVE A 50-50 CHANCE OF GETTING AN ANSWER, BUT I MUST ASK ANYWAY....... CHOPIN GOT ME INTO CLASSICAL, SOME YEARS AGO, THOUGH THE MASTERPIECE ALBUM OF ALL CHOPIN BY IVAN DAVIS, (THE GREATEST AMERICAN PIANIST THAT I KNOW OF) BUT SINCE THEN, OVER MANY YEARS OF STUDY, I THINK, QUITE POSSIBLY, I HAVE COME TO LOVE ALKAN EVEN MORE, FOR THE SECOND PLACE POSITION OF THE GREATEST PIANO COMPOSERS OF ALL TIME, (BUT OF COURSE, NO ONE EVEN COMING CLOSE TO LISZT'S VERY SECURE POSITION IN THE #1 SPOT OF ALL TIME FOR PIANO). SO THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS QUESTION, NOT JOKING AROUND THIS TIME, AS USUAL, THAT I HOPE SOMEONE CAN ANSWER, WHY IS IT THAT SO MANY OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST PIANISTS WILL NOT TOUCH ALKAN, WHO I NOW CONSIDER THE SECOND GREATEST IN THE HISTORY OF PIANO, WHY IS HE SO OVERLOOKED, BY YOURSELF, KISSIN, AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON, I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THIS.........IS THE MATERIAL NOT APPRECIATED, OR NOT LIKED ENOUGH TO PUT IN ALL THE EFFORT, OR JUST TOO DIFFICULT, OR WHAT IS IT ....... I SIMPLY MUST KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS........ I KNOW YOU LIKE TO WRITE SMALL ESSAYS, IF YOU WON'T LEARN ANY OF HIS MUSIC, SOME OF US DIE HARD FANS OF YOU AND ALKAN BOTH, WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHY HE IS UNWORTHY, OR WHAT EVER THE SITUATION IS, WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO READ AT LEAST A FEW WORDS ON YOUR POSITION ON ALKAN, MAYBE YOU DON'T LIKE HIS MUSIC, BUT HIS CONTRIBUTION TO MUSIC, AND ESPECIALLY PIANO, EARNS HIM SOME SORT OF EXPLANATION AS TO WHY HE IS NOT PLAYED, EVEN SO MUCH AS ONE NOTE, BY MY FAVORITE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD..... PLEASE CONSIDER ANSWERING MY QUESTION, AS I AM A LONG TIME FAN AND SUPPORTER, AND I SIMPLY MUST KNOW THE ANSWER OF WHAT YOU FEEL ABOUT ALKAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
