Wow, indeed. Such a delicate yet powerful performance from this young cellist. He played it as if he were doing so for the first time, so rich and effortless seemed his entries. I loved it and thank you for for upload.

one of many compositions by Tchaikovsky which with all its triumphant exuberance, like 18:24 , casts a shadow over his death. Artist's incredible too.

Amazing performance, very thoughtful. To Mr. Nathaniel Greene: I believe that Mr. Koranyi actually restored some of the Tchaikovsky's original dynamics and style vs. Fitzenhagen's dynamics (that are, admittedly, more familiar). So his performance is closer in tone to what the composer envisioned. See, for comparison, Knushevitsky's rendition of the original version of these variations (search youtube for Knushevitsky plays Rococco Variations). In any case, splendid rendition, bravo Mr. Koranyi!

I was a latecomer in learning to play the Cello...my flat mate won a scholarship to go to France and study with Pierre Fournier and I, for better or worse, took up Motorcycle Racing! BIG MISTAKE!

I´m always looking for someone to play the ascending scales of the second variation with a down bow staccato. I saw Pierre Fournier play it twice live that way and it´s a fantastic bowing. This performance is solid all the way with maybe a little distant feel.

thought it was awesome; the dialogue with the orchestra, the conductor totally getting into it, with a hop, and no gushy big grande aplomb stuff... but a light hearted glissandoish exit. :/

You can have your own interpretation...but when you directly change most of Tchaikovsky's dynamics, you are just changing the piece, not making it your own. Placing random ritards in places with no changes in tempo is also annoying. The tone, however, is impeccable.
