Thanks for the entertaining and yet very explanatory video! Currently working on turboswapping my miata. I bought a Td04 turbo and it seems to be a bit on the loose side. I wanted to get it overhauled but so to keep the costs down and learn sth new I wanna try it myself. Will be following this tutorial. Hope all goes well.. 👀

Excellent - I'd heard most of the terms, but had no idea what they meant. Now I do. Thanks chaps.

I now fully understand how banjo bolt screens can kill turbos.

Thank u enjoyed and perfect as I've just taken my tdo4 off my wrx 01 when I inspected the shaft when changing the clutch. Subscribed now :) Had zero up and down play but a bit forwards and backwards. I got a good replacement oem. I took apart the original and cleaned it. I have access to a lathe and other machines. I wanted to know about hybrids. Like can u make the housing larger with machining and then fit a lather cartridge? I put it on the lathe and practiced going into the exhaust housing with a cutting tool and seems it be easy to take off 0.5mm and seems there is lots of thickness on the exhaust housing? Any advice on this? Sorry if stupid questions. I imagine perhaps has to be very precise than a lathe for machining? I wanted to know about hybrids..

If the intake compressor wheel looks chewed up and there's little nicks on the ambient air inlet. Would you still consider rebuilding? Is sand blasting necessary? Did you say you're using Lucas oil for assembly?

I have an MX-5 with a TD04, it's failing emissions due to exhaust leak, only place I found a leak was the turbo wastegate shaft, is there a way to seal it?

@ToolsnTrack

@@geertterharmsel it depends on a number of factors really, mostly down to condition of the original core. If the shaft is destroyed a CHRA may be more effective than a rebuild kit, but until its stripped its a hard one to judge
