With proper maintenance and repairs machines like this TD 18 A will be running the next 50 to 100 years and be more reliable than today’s pieces of junk!

Bucyrus Erie S90 scraper, 8 yard struck 11 yard heaped capacity. The tires originally would have been diamond tread eartmover tires. Should be 14.00x20 on the dolly (front) and 16.00x20 on the rear. I have the exact same model scraper that belonged to my Grandfather I pull with a D6 Cat.

We had a TD 18A on our farm up in Canada back in the 50’s, serial #TDR24849, We used it for clearing heavy brush to make more farm land, also used it pulling a scraper to do ditching and road building, we were quite busy with it all year round, even in the cold winter. It was an excellent crawler with few problems and affordable to run and maintain. Later,we bought a TD 24- 241 series, awesome crawler as well, we preferred these IHC crawlers to Cat back then. Nice to see that you’re using those old girls, sure brings back a lot of memories. Will be watching for more videos 😀

ONE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS TO LET THEM IDLE AN WHILE BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN AFTER HARD WORK! THE AIRCRAFT TIRE IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR THE YEAR! DUE TO WW2 RUBBER SHORTAGES , USED AND DEFECTIVE MILITARY AIRCRAFT TIRES GOT AN SECOND LIFE ON LARGE FARM AND CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY!! THE HEY MACHINERY COMPANY IN BALDWIN KS BECAME KNOWN FOR MANUFACTURING THE SPECIAL WHEELS FOR THIS USE!!

So far we only had to replace the clutches once but had to remove them again to replace a broken hard part. I hope we don't have to do that again.

Nice job. We run older equipment on our place too. We picked up a 1949 T9 crawler with a 10' Holt dozer. I love that machine.

Thanks, this was my try at making a video, still learning. This isn't the only museum piece we still use, HA. I hope to get a start up video of her soon. I doubt we'll take the scraper off and put the dozer blade on for a video, that's alot of work. Thanks for watching.

Love what you’re doing! Wish more people appreciated the iron that built this country. Everybody wants to scrap everything and buy new, that works fine until it doesn’t work! Do what you can do with the time you have. Thank you!

I just purchaced an 18 but am really struggling to find parts and decode the serial numbers; we were told it is a 1953 but not 100% sure. Anyone know of a good resource for these ? My dad grew up on these and knows more about them than anyone I have known or come across. But he is almost 88 and I need some guidance on them. I have ALL the manuals for it and the bucyrus erie dozer as well. Any help is much appreciated

Is that loading in low gear?seems to be doing it tough like it needs a lower gear.
@secondchanceiron6123

First gear, low side, to have power to spin tracks. Slow enough to raise and lower scraper to max dirt loading and traction just before spinning tracks.

I think you got that backwards there bud, the 14 was one solid head they broke and crack all the time, the td18 had split heads never had a problem with them cracking. If you had problem with a final drive it's not the tractor it's the operator. The scraper this guy is pulling in this video it's too big for this tractor without a pusher tractor.
