(23 Oct 2019) Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako welcomed visiting royals from all around the world Wednesday for a tea party at Tokyo's Imperial Palace.
The event was held a day after the emperor's enthronement ceremony.
The newly proclaimed Imperial couple were seen smiling, while greeting the arriving royals from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Most of the Imperial family members, including the abdicated Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko, were expected to join the party, according to Japanese Imperial Household Agency.
On Tuesday, Naruhito proclaimed his enthronement in an ancient palace ritual before 2,000 guests from around the world.
