Yay!!!!!!!!! I’m so happy! That’s amazing! I literally was up last night creating a list of videos to do specifically on this subject. Especially the next steps into phonemes, phonics, syllables, etc. I’m so excited to share it with other parents who are like us and into this type of stuff. Thanks for coming back with the update!

News Update!!! My 7 months old can read! I've been doing sightwords since 3 months. You have inspired me. For the longest time I thought it was all in vain. But I have been using the flash cards as recommended and he can decipher and choose the correct words on command. He now knows 13 words. I always thought things like this was fake or for genius kids. I am blown away by How quickly he is learning. I really wish I could share a video with you. MAKE A FACEBOOK GROUP FOR YOUR FOLLOWERS. I WOULD LOVE TO INTERACT WITH YOU AND YOUR FOLLOWERS.

@@BrittanyKellyTV My husband always laughs at me when he sees me watching videos about teaching toddlers to read since my two-year-olds are reading so well. The thing is, there are always good ideas that you can learn from plus it is fun seeing other people's journeys.

Thanks so much for doing the update!! 😁 I commented on your previous video asking about what exactly to do with babies, so I'm definitely going to begin sounding out the letters for him. We went straight into sight words with the homemade flash cards I laminated. My son is now 8mo and the hardest part is staying consistent. We read daily, but only do our flash cards off and on, but I'm really trying to get it in every day. Thanks so much for the tip about being gentle with myself. I've been feeling alot of mom guilt over it! But I'll definitely take it one step at a time now ❤️ Please keep the videos coming! I'm subscribed and will definitely be looking out!!! 😁

You’re welcome! We are both in the infant stage! I have a 6 month old so I plan to do a video very soon about our exact schedule for the flash cards and how to make consistency easier. The thing I love about doing things it this way is that my program is over the course of 3 years. So there is room and time for mistakes. Motherhood is already hard without preparing our children educationally, so I totally get it. I can’t wait to expand upon this specific subject. I love comments like this, because I really love connecting with other like-minded moms. ❤️

OMG! I really enjoyed your videos LMAO =D I'm from Brazil and also I'm pregnant, and I would like to teach both languages to my baby (Portuguese and English) it's that a problem to fragment e.g (I 'll try foccus on my mother language in the morning and at night sing or read some english stories... What would you reccomend? THanks a lot !

Lucrecia Gracielly Awesome!!!! I would recommend speaking at home the language that isn’t the language they will hear outside of the home the most. I would speak the other language on the weekends. Or you can separate it like you mentioned. Whichever way works. My kids heard Chinese during the weekdays at school and english at home with me. They picked it up just fine. It’s so much easier when they are little!

Do you think there is a problem teaching a toddler to read in arabic letters and in english letters at the same time ? Or should i first do the arabic then when he knows the letters to start the english ? . Its really complicated with me . We live in an arab country . Im bosnian raised in germany so im talkin only bosnian and now i will start also terman . Arabic he will learn from his father. I try my best to teach him first tje arabic letters but could i also do the english or lets say „ german „ for now at same time ?

Nej Murat No problem at all. My daughter learned to read Chinese characters and some Spanish at 3 years old and it was fine. At that age they are able to categorize different languages very well, even if it’s written language.

Been binge-watching your videos for the past few days, I'm from the Philippines and is eager to start teaching my 17mos. Old baby to read english, the thing is we are not speaking english at home, we are using our native dialect is this an issue? Help please. By the way, I already printed sight words flashcards for my baby. Thank you

Emie Ross Piamonte If you live in an English speaking country then it shouldn’t be a problem that you are not speaking English at home. For your short lessons with the sight words or reading an English book that can be the time that you use English.

What should I start with first? The alphabet or sight words?
@BrittanyKellyTV
3 жыл бұрын
You can do both in the beginning! Just make sure it's letter sounds and not the letter names. That teaches phonics, while the names are helpful for spelling. I just signing the songs for the letter names in the beginning. Check out my other Teach Your Baby to Read video (link in the description box) to get the full details.

What if my son is 14 months old and I want to start teaching him from now, from where can I start?
@BrittanyKellyTV

You can start with reading, showing flashcards and basic letter sounds. Try to keep the sessions short (less than 5 minutes) and build from there.

Hi Brittany! Ilike your videos .They're great! You've used theDoman's teaching philosophy with your kids ,right? Iwant to know if this method is applicable to older kids(my son is to be 9 in August and he's on the autism spectrum.Could you please give me some tips. Thank you.
@BrittanyKellyTV

Hey! I use part of Doman’s teaching philosophy, but I do not focus on whole word learning as much as he did. I probably include more of Dr. Maria Montessori’s teaching philosophy overall, because of the phonemic and phonic learning focus. The pairing has worked well for my family. For a 9 year old I do not think that Doman’s method would be a great fit because I believe it requires the unconscious absorbent mind to work, which is seen in children under the age of 3 years old. At the older age I would focus on making sure their phonemic awareness is strong before moving onto phonics and then whole word learning. I hope this was helpful.

Elizabeth Varghese It’s ok to continue working on helping your son to understand written language as he learns to speak. I taught my babies sign language so that they were able to communicate what they were learning prior to being about to say it verbally. It helps so much!

Any tips for a 7 year old
@BrittanyKellyTV
4 жыл бұрын
I have an almost 7 year old, and if I were to start teaching him reading at this age then I would consider all of these tips, but change a few. For instance, at the older age I think that drilling is important. I would perform a lot of different games and activities around a sight word before moving on to make sure it really sticks. They do not have the unconscious absorbent minds of children under 3 years old, and process things differently. I would also focus on phonemic awareness much longer before moving onto phonics at 7.
