lovely class, it teaches so much; some adult actors sadly don't know these basic skills, this is a kick ass teacher!

She's on to something as they're really engaged and it really gets them thinking, but at times she seems a little too harsh and a little too serious, it's not Broadway. Despite that I think this is an interesting style, it;s a little objective, if you will

That's a bit too serious but I kind of agree that the arts are each all disciplines. These are simple disciplines students should learn, and they are already in 7th Grade right? But I also kind of agree that her approach is a bit too much that it kinds of scares the students already, but I also guess that in this way to separate or sort those that treat drama as a fun communal process and those that can handle theater or drama as a profession someday. It's a disciplined creativity. :)

When the teacher asked "so what have we learned so far?' The responses had nothing at all to do with Drama Technique. Yes, you need discipline in a drama class, but crikey! Can you imagine the conversation with mom and dad at dinner .... MOM:'So how was your Drama class today CHILD: 'yeah, it was ok' MOM: 'what did you learn? CHILD: Err, we learnt how to take off our shoes, and to sit in a circle, Oh, and not to talk!

Seeing this made me reconsider teaching drama bc this is boring af and the students are treated like kindergarteners instead of 7th graders.

I am a Drama Teacher ... Acting Director... There is NOTHING Boring in Teaching Drama... Have you taken Drama Lessons? Have you been in a Play? It's hard work, but very rewarding. And... if YOU are a Drama Teacher and it is boring... That's the teacher's fault. He/she should not be just a "Talking Head" at the front of the class... Acting is a VERB... An Action... "Show don't just Tell"

@@judichristopher4604 you misunderstood me. I’m a drama teacher / director of 3 years and done/written many plays (majored in college). I was speaking to your level of instruction in this video. Wouldn’t cut it with my urban middle school kids.

Oh wow, that's a bit too serious now. She sucked the fun right out of it. I felt so bad for these kids, having such a restricted environment in a drama class. Drama gives kids a chance to express themselves in a fun and creative way. I'd have more fun in a math class that in this drama class.

So sad to see these children in what should be a very fun and engaging class be in this class that is so extremely teacher-centered. What little fun these kids manage to have in this class is in spite of the teacher and not because of her. Its bad enough that math and history are taught this way but drama especially should not be teacher-centered and content-based but should be student-centered and performance-based. Guess private schools have the same problems our public schools have.

pacerprogram i love her structure. without it, you can't teach. i know from experience. yes, theatre is fun but she is right. theatre is a discipline and they must understand that. she's laying some basics down which seem to need to be teacher-centered. maybe her older students experience more student-centered and performance based classes.

I agree with you that drama class for kids should be fun and engaging, but I also kind of agree with the teacher that they should treat drama as a discipline not just all fun. Thea arts is like the humanities and sciences too, they are "academic disciplines". You can be as wild in a laboratory to experiment on your research project or investigation report, but you can't be all free to play around beakers and glasses in the lab, for they should be properly handled with care. It's play and work at the same time. Art for pre-school, yes, that could be exploratory and all fun, but as soon as a kid gets older little by little, they should also learn discipline gradually like starting to properly fall in line, be quite, and especially having focus and concentration and it grows as they grow up. Some countries are having citizens with quite discipline like having no janitors to clean their rooms instead the students clean their own rooms based on assigned tasks and places, but look, they are still thriving as one nation and are even quite good in maths and science and are really into robots (I am referring to Japan). Too much freedom also is bad like you can say what you want even it hurts and do what you want even it is inappropriate, little discipline is also needed. Nevertheless, it all depends to a person on how drama should be taught. Btw, math and history class in our country is quite fun, we do role plays, reports, case studies, research, answer activity worksheets, play puzzles, and create projects like toys, miniatures, models, artworks, and have games using history concepts and math skills. It is because our curriculum now is learner-centered. Sometimes, students can get to choose an activity that is suitable to his or her interests and abilities. Students in grade school are facilated and supervised by teachers and oftentimes are lead by teachers with a little spoon-feeding or teacher-centered approach but is blended with learner-centered approach, but as they get in junior high school, they have more freedom that teachers will just be facilitators or supervisors and not a source of information all the time, that freedom and independence increases as they get in senior high but with little facilitation and guidance and college is much more free that teachers will be like supervisors and will give students more independence in learning their own way. I am from the Philippines, but these ideas I shared about our education here is based on my experience and not by the entire country. I am quite privileged to study in a city and didn't experience much hardship in learning unlike those in the provinces and rural areas of our country which are lacking in good facilities, computers, internet, and even good instructional materials, and are sometimes still using the teacher-centered approach and much stricter discipline, but this is not a generalization of rural areas.

This is way too long to build a frozen picture. I get primary school children to build them in 30 seconds. I know she's looking more in depth at gesture and expression and body language, but it's still way too much time. At this age they should be able to complete all that, and have checked everything on the list within 1 minute.
