The problem returning to the Uk is not that you will be deskilled( although many employers think you will be if you have not taught in the UK for a few years), but you will struggle to find any school willing to interview you on Zoom/Teams. You will have to return to the UK and start looking a for a job. I know several teachers who have struggled to return saying that without the support of their non teaching partner they would struggle financially. Expect to work as a temporary teacher for a while until you can get shortlisted for an interview in the UK and ask if the prospective school is willing to interview on a Zoom call. Most won’t.

Point number 2 has important cultural relevance. Education is very important for Arabs. Parents will bend over backwards and go into debt just to get their kids the best education (and also healthcare). It's a little different than in the United States.

Some say that students think high of themselves and that one has to be very careful around students. Compare with East Asia where teachers are really tough with students.

Coming from China, i'd have no problem finishing at 3:30. Kids finish at 5 here, some staying for night study until 8:30PM

Hey! You mentioned the long 'work' day, can you elaborate please. For example, here in the U.K, although the school day finishes at 3.30, I think teachers stay till ( on average) till 5ish. Or teachers might come early. In Dubai, can you do planning/ marking/ preparation, during school hours (7.30-3.30)? Or, on average, how much longer do teachers spend, after school, doing work?

UK I was contracted 8.30-3.30. The school day is only 6 hours . There were days (not all) where I did work longer but in the UAE, The school day is 8 hours. Some weeks I will also work longer too, the big difference is in the morning where you don’t realise just how many more hours you are doing.

Quite helpful info. What do you have to say about the workload, stress and students' behavior issues in Dubai schools, as compared to schools in the UK?
