Concise description of phonological awareness, and great examples of segmentation. I will be adding this to my teaching tool belt.

This was a great introduction to phonemic awareness...such a critical set of skills for the emerging reader. Our complex language is far easier to decode with explicit phonemic instruction.

In the Squared Up method, have you ever used squares that are split color or solid color (ex. solid blue for consonant, split blue for blends, split white and blue for vowel/consonant, etc) ?

Dear Teacher, may I ask that you use "break up words" to express segmenting. How about "break words down into letter sound? Are they similar usage? Thanks.
