Oh wow! This is awful. I’m not teaching online right now but I click out of curiosity. I used to work for Budbe which was based in S. Korea. I hope the governments gets this under control. HORRIBLE.

Right now, a lot of it is coming from people without criminal records, so if they get caught they apologize and say “I won’t do it again” and get no consequences. Because it’s happening at high profile/affluent schools, and because it’s happening to military women (and they need military members), there is a HUGE push right now for the government to do something… and I hope they do!

Firstly, I want to say that it's disgusting what is taking place. Especially towards minors and non-consenting. In general, it's disturbing. Having lived and taught in SK both in the public school and private sector, I know the culture well and the impact that this is causing. Having said that I find it comparing Telegram to the "other" social media platforms laughable. Here's why.. FB, twitter, even WhatsApp (to name a few) have all sold out. The idea behind Telegram is the freedom of free speech and it's founder & his brother (who's a genius and wrote the encryption code) won't buckle under the ideal of the freedom of speech and being political and governments from certain countries. HOWEVER, Durov has said that he's received many requests over the years and those that are legitimate = meaning that it was in regards to groups spreading violence, etc "...publicly posting things that any decent human being wouldn't allow or wouldn't want to be posted, we [Telegram/Durov] would help them... In other cases, were it would be crossing the line of our values - freedom of speech or peoples personal correspondence, we would ignore" Also, the largest pressure that company faces "isn't coming from governments but Apple and Google." and if the company fails to comply they will be removed from their stores. The truth is that freedom of speech also means allowing the speaker the freedom to express their opinions even if it doesn't align with your own. Which seems like such a hard pill to swallow in this day and age. The caveat being that ones freedom shouldn't be an excuse to do harm. I do believe that having looked into the Durov, he is not for the harming of children nor innocence. Which is more than could be said for other organisations. Another thing that I find astounding is two fold. The first being how readily grown adults either turn a blind eye or take no consideration at all when it comes to their themselves on social media, and worse, even less when it comes to their children. Crude as it is, South Park did a very poignant example of this in the episode, HumancentiPad. Having worked with children for over 20 years it is shocking. Even more so as I like many of you have had the luxury or should I say simplicity and freedom to just be children and grow up. The second point is, that having of this technology at ones fingertips comes with great responsibility. Especially now with everyone fawning over AI. It should be no surprise that things are turning nefarious. Currently on the market, we have apps that can take a person, their voice, their eye direction.. and make the person look in the camera and say whatever, the person can also speak another language. With all of this, honestly it needs to be a wake up call for us all.

@@hc9582 thank you for your comment. You’ve made a lot of good points. The South Park one, human centipede, wasn’t that about terms and conditions of apple? That’s probably the most memorable episode I’ve ever seen. As far as telegram goes, I dont think it has so much to do with the t&c as it does South Korea not punishing offenders. The same thing could be done (on a much smaller scale) via text messages.

@@JillianShanahan Yes, it was on T&Cs. It definitely stands out! I was referring to the generalised indifference people have when they use most tech and platforms (apps, devices, etc), and don't bothering to understanding what they are opening themselves up to or agreeing to. My reference was meant for social media in general. Telegram is a messaging app with encryption coding and an ethos of what you do should be private. Durvov being the sole owner is standing firm on that and stating he is non-political. Something I respect, to state that your principles are something and then to actually stand by them even when facing pressure. And there is a lot to that. I find some of it amusing as in the audacity of the pressure. Tbh, he's quiet interesting in general. He made a social media platform similar to FB in Russia in the mid 2000s, and when the same principle of freedom of speech and censorship became an issue, he left the company and country. Technically, text messages are not since the data is not secure... just look at recent history (last decade or so) with some other well known cases that have blown open that illusion. Perhaps not everyone is concerned with having private conversations stay private. That's a choice. However, with certain leaks (data breaches / hackings / etc.) and the way in which technology is going. I am not sure I'd personally trust confidential things like family safe words, passwords, etc to be potentially accessed. Technology is going that way, you just have to look at what you can currently do and like this situation in SK. As for SK not punishing offenders. Nothing new here.. or as like most scandals "nothing to see, nothing to see!" Sad, but short of it's citizens making a fuss, not much will change until people demand it to. There's more to it, as it is not that simple.

@@hc9582 You know way more about telegram than I do! I've only used it to talk to a certain friend of mine bc she likes to send long voice messages and it's easier to do that way!

Hey hope all is well i had a few questions about the palfish application. Is there a way you can take a look at my application. I signed up but did not put my auto message and also updated the background photo for white background in photo shop. I made the changes and submitted. Do i still need to text Facebook like you suggested? Lastly my nationality still says complete even after i uploaded my passport as well as my application status still says failed after i resubmitted.

Hi! I’m sorry- I can’t help you there…. I haven’t done anything with PalFish in YEARS. I highly doubt anyone on their fb page is going to respond now, and their admin team is pretty ghost. There are better companies to work for :)
