Two of them were basketball players in high school and one in college. But they doesn’t watch or care about the WNBA. They says the NBA is far and away more entertaining, and that the drama that gets spun up with the WNBA about pay and how they interact with the NBA is, “super embarrassing.” “This whole thing with Caitlin Clark is just super embarrassing as a woman… like, it’s all of our stereotypically worst behavior traits. Envy, pettiness, cattiness, and just shittiness! They’re the same girls who will go on and on about supporting women but they see one as more successful and better than they are… and prettier… they blow it all up and act like petty bitches and make the rest of look crazy…” ~female friend and ex college basketball player

Everyone who has been invested in the women's game up to now understandably resents the realisation that despite the years of toil and millions in NBA subsidies, their output just hasn't been good enough to make anybody-as Cheryl Reeve puts it-”give two shits". It hasn't been misogyny or racism-although they have had to overcome plenty of each-it's been indifference. The combined effort of every woman who has played in the WNBA has simply failed to muster the spectacle that Caitlin Clark brings by herself. Basketball fans don't have anything against fake eyelashes or bedazzled outfits but they're just decoration on the genuine spectacle of lights-out game. Everyone involved in the history of women's basketball should feel proud of the fights they've won and the roads they've paved so that those who follow can concentrate their energies on the on-court product. Maybe the attention and appreciation Caitlin Clark brings to the game are bit sudden to approach without at least a bit of caution, but it's perverse to _want_ to treat it as a threat rather than embrace it as the tipping point you've fought so hard to reach, or thanking fortune for finally delivering your just rewards.

@@einefes People of her her color and sexual preference are an under-represented and marginalized group in the WNBA. She was more than normal and repeatedly the object of trash talk on and off the court (even by a coach), physically bullied by players who wouldn’t hesitate to call her a “white b*tch”. Then she was snubbed for the Olympic team despite her obviously superior skills. Too new. Not enough “chemistry”. Some global majority commentators even said her “pretty privilege” wouldn’t help her in the big leagues. Every effort was made to deplatform her early on and to characterize her as naive, inexperienced, as uppity, an upstart member of the global minority. Micro aggressions and classic bigotry were apparent every time CC challenged the narratives of entrenched ideas in the WNBA. That would exhaust anyone.

On the one hand I agree with all this. On the other hand, I think this break from basketball will done WONDERS for Caitlin's mental health. I think her mental health has been pretty bad these last few months. If you watch the Fever's media availability postgame videos -- win or lose, Caitlin is there, eyes darting all around, frantically biting her nails, covering her mouth with her shirt, just overall looking anxious/stressed as hell. If they went to Dallas and had it at Cowboy stadium, they would do 50000 people easily. I wish they would do a game at Indianapolis Colts' stadium and see. No other player can even come close to Caitlin period its not even close. Haters gonna hate it's what they do. They can't help themselves. You dont have to like her or folliw her, but the truth is the truth. She can not be ignored in the WNBA. Staley despite what she says, has had a bug up her ass about Clark since she lost to her at the final four-snubbing her for the point guard award for hidalgo, making snarky comments about her in the middle of the season, calling her coach a racist, ect. Reeve has openly attacked her since she came to the league, 94' defensive pressure in an all star game?, back handed comments about the league being about more than one person, and don't think for second that black girls rock shirt wasn't aimed at clark and her fans because she thinks they are racist for some reason. Caitlin broke so many of the records of the players actually picked for Team USA, so Staley's comment about Caitlin not playing as well as she is now falls flat. Like what, Caitlin goes back to square zero and has to prove herself all over? I think Staley's answer was PR. I'm actually happy Caitlin got a chance to take a week off in Mexico and refresh. She looks really relaxed now, in availability videos, and she can work with the team over the next few weeks and bust butts after the Olympic break. By the way, you have a way with putting your thoughts into a logical presentation, which is very compelling! :)
