Theses were quite popular in Australia at the time! Sadly most of the radios didn’t have FM here!

Thanks gor sharing this video on tbe Sanyo Briefcase Record Player, I have a Model G-2312 which is the more basic model doesn't have the cassette player. My unit has the record selector knob jammed on the 33 position and the speed is too slow , your video has given me more ideas on disassembling it to see if I can repair it. Love the simple design, with a ceramic stylus the quality is quite basic but still a very cool unit and very nostalgic.

The record player is stereo. The two “wires” are actually shielded left and right.

Bought my sister one of these for college in the early 70's. Sanyo but no mains input, batteries only! Surprised you didn’t spot the tuning CAPACITOR in the radio, to the best of my knowledge ALL radio tuners then used variable capacitors in the same sort of cable system. I took apart several radios of the period and they all had the same get up. Interesting teardown, Thank You.

I loved that Tech Moan episode also. Tech in a case instantly gets more interesting for some reason.

Took a punt and acquired one of these at auction for my man shed. Everything appears to work except the record deck. When applying stylus to the record the whole thing just skims across. Unfortunately I don't have a manual and there doesn't appear any obvious adjustment on the back end of the arm. If you or anyone can help with this I'd be eternally grateful. The only reason I bought it was to play my old LP's. Thanks, Jeff

The variable item for tuning is a capacitor, the shield is to stop 50Hz hum pick up and I would guess the 2 cables from the pickup are thin coax's so it would be true stereo.

The turntable is a classic Idler wheel design. Very common back in the day, but kind of rare nowerdays. For the modern day, I would add an aux input and maybe Bluetooth. But I would prefer an aux input over Bluetooth if I could only have one of the two options.

A contemporary version, yes, might work. Beach or picnic, what kind of speakers would you use to be both portable and "overcome" the sound of waves, seagulls, screaming kids ...? Battery, bluetooth, amplifier, radio, SSD, bit of messing about with the UI to make it approachable, fitting it into a Pelican case? No worries. I can't get my head past the speaker selection ....

All joking aside, the original concept of the 2 speakers on short leads means you could space them apart facing inwards. If you added another 2 speakers, you'd have a chance of blocking out external sounds (to a degree) without needing kilowatts of power and having your music heard 3 kilometers away?

Hello budy, how are you! I have the Sanyo G2614nk, I can't find the electronic diagram. Would this source be 24v?

Not long after Techmoan featured this I saw one smashed up and dumped behind a local litter bin. It was a bit too far gone for me to salvage. Also my grandparents had one of these with a 8 Track on it.

I'd put in a good turntable cartridge, probably put a rechargeable battery pack in it, maybe upgrade the speakers

There is no reason to have these devices integrated with one another. There each fully analog modules with no micro processor.
