Cool process, I didn’t think it was that big a process making tungsten jigs, totally different from pouring lead jig. Great video, thanks for sharing all the tips!!

The heat required to melt tungsten is much greater that what hooks can handle so most often the head is formed then attached to the hook. Some processes in larger factories use different methods like thermal forming to make them, epoxy, tungsten, and other materials under extreme pressure to create heat. This isn't practical in my little shop so solder it is. I have a couple other methods of attaching round slotted beads that I'll share at a later date. Thanks again for watching and for your continued support James!

You should always work in a well-ventilated area. I use an exhaust system over my Lee pot for lead and the exhaust hood above that removes most of the other fumes. I don't know of anyone that melts tungsten because the melting point of tungsten is 6,191° F. Most people do what I showed in the video and solder the head onto the hook. The melting point of lead is much lower at 621.5° F so it's much more suitable for jig and sinker making. If you melt lead keep it as close to the melting point as possible, much hotter it becomes more dangerous and releases fumes. If the lead is turning purple and blue it's too hot and I'd set the temperature lower from now on. The smoke from the soldering process of tungsten can also be harmful if you're not in a well-ventilated area for extended periods of time. Honestly, the cleaning process of removing imperfections or rough edges on the lead can be more dangerous than pouring lead. A lot of people use belt sanders that make a lot of lead particulates fly around and be ingested into your body. The same goes for light and fluffy powder paint. It can become airborne and ingested very easily. You should always wear a fitted respirator with organic vapor cartridges, paper masks won't be of much help with the smaller particulates, and Vapors. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me. I'm always here to help, especially when it comes to safety.
