Nice video. I just did this with the brakes on my 1972 Ford 9 inch. As far as cleaning the rust off, I soaked my drums and backing plates in a tub of cheap white vinegar for a week. With a little wire brushing and scrubbing with Beartex, they all now look brand spanking new.

Can only imagine what shape the master cylinder was in by the looks of those brake cylinders?

Yup pretty much just powder rust packed inside and way beyond a rebuild. Luckily these are fairly cheap parts.

@@troysgarage Yeah, fortunately I didn't have to touch the master on the brake job I just completed on a friend's 8.8" '83 F250. (Got a short video on my channel)

Do 1966 F250s Take 12.12x2in brakes/drums or 12x2.5
@troysgarage
Жыл бұрын
Yes, you’ll have to measure yours to be sure. Most f250’s were the 2.5in but there were some that had 2in as well. Best to measure before ordering.

Do you have a list of part #s you used from O'Reilly's?
@troysgarage
Жыл бұрын
My parts list may be different than yours. Gotta tear into the drums and measure the shoes. There’s 2 (maybe even 3) sizes of shoes and that tells you what bearings you’ll need too. About the only thing that’s the same is the springs kit and the wheel cylinders. I’d suggest taking the measurements and then going to your local Orielly’s to order up what you need. I was about $680 for all the rear brakes and bearings, just to give you an idea of cost. Hope that helps.

@@troysgarage I got all my shoes, spring kits 4 wheel cylinders, 4 seals, 3 brake hoses, new master cylinder, gear lube, bearing grease, all for $460 at O'Reilly's. Keep up the good work.

great video. I'm new to the rebuild world but found an old 70 f250 needs a little love but Ive always wanted to rebuild one. So when doing the rear drums on that year do I pull the bar out to get the drums off?
@troysgarage
2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The axle shaft has to come out first then pull the drums off. If the brakes are worn pretty bad and grooved the drum it can be pretty hard to pull them off. You may have to back off the adjuster screw to loosen the shoes from the drum to get them out of the groove (hope that made sense).

@@troysgarage thank you. Yes very helpful. They are seized so I will have to use the adjusters.

@@troysgarage on my 1965 F250 I filed the axle shaft flange just enough to remove the drum, and it really didn't take much material off the flange. I thought Ford should have done that from the beginning. IMO, great video 👌
