Tears for Fears are so criminally underrated that it's tragic. There are loads of crappy 80s bands who still get recognition, but a high quality band like Tears for Fears is still quiet obscure. Roland can sing with such passion and emotion, it's unbelievable. Heck, Tears for Fears even released a couple of stellar albums in the 90s, "Elemental" (1993) and "Raul and the King's of Spain," (1995) which hardly anyone is aware of.
@Martinez-mr3uy

They were never obscure. Several of their songs are well know even to the younger generation today. I think what you mean to say is that many of their *best* songs are lesser-known than their hits were.

@@tiduzffx I've got all, or most, of their albums. The Hurting is good overall. To be honest many of their songs are hit-and-miss for me. The ones that I like are really fantastic and I put them up their with my favorite songs of all time. But there's also a bunch that I'm not real fond of ... I feel Simple Minds was more consistently excellent.

@Micheal Martinez NOT too certain what tenchi586 meant !? but although I'm late I do want to chime in and say they definitely weren't obscure in the mid to late 80's and in fact I do believe they were voted as one of the top British Bands of the 80's their songs have appeared on film soundtracks and many of their hits have been covered by a younger generation of artists including Gary Jules and Lorde PHEEWWW long share but hope you enjoy the evening!

I remember singing this song in the girls bathroom while i was cutting class and my friend started to sing along and i was amazed that she actually knew the song we sang it all that day. Im african american and this was real msic when i was growing up in the 80's. They dont make em like this anymore. My friend passed away and whenever i think of her i think of this song they are both beautiful. RIP Theresa

I don't know what it is about this entire song, and I've heard thousands upon thousands of songs so far in my life as a musician, but, I really think that this could quite possibly be the greatest pop/rock song ever written, and recorded. Its transient, transfixing, transportent, transcending. ENOUGH SAID!

salvadormarley, Tears for Fears is actually still popular among many teens. Most that have heard of the band only recognize like one song though, usually Everybody Wants to Rule the World. It’s not something you’ll hear if you tune into the local radio because this song is over 30 years old. Time continues to fly by, and that means that things change. I don’t understand why everyone makes a big deal about the new generation’s taste in music. I’m not much of a fan of the music today, but I’m not going to go up to someone and say, “That’s not my taste in music, which makes you stupid for listening to that.” I’m pretty sure that many people that grew up in the 1940s didn’t say, “Wow, this 80s new wave sounds really great!” They most likely thought it sounded bad because it was different. The music industry isn’t, nor hasn’t, been stuck in one decade for a multiple decades.

This is a special song for me.. When I used to listen to it when I was 13 years old, back in 1990... very well do I remember.. you know how a song can go along a precise memory of your past.. This, when we had taken in a young bird, fallen from its nest... and we fed it, and it became our little pet, till it died and I was so sad. This song echoes that sadness in me. With Roland's powerful voice...

The 80s... oh man I miss them. TFF was one of my favorite bands, and this is one of the not only THEIR most powerful songs but one of the BEST SONGS of the 1980s. I nearly melted this vinyl on my turntable I played it so much. Now it's all CDs ("old school" to some), MP3s, iTunes and all that soulless digital crap. Nothing like that vinyl spinning under your fingers, with all its glorious imperfections and rich sound. 80s was the LAST DECADE before the hi-tech revolution changed our world forever. in some ways that's good, but in so many ways it sucks. Hate to say it but all this hi-tech crap we all clutter our lives with has cheapened the life experience. I went to college in the 80s, did things the old way (before cell phones & tablets & ipads), I loved it, and I would go back to it in a heartbeat. Life was better, people were more engaged. Or, maybe I'm just getting older.
