"I just want to play it over and over again," teary-eyed teacher Sara Hattenbach shares as she watches young high school students joining together from their respective homes in quarantine to perform "Moon River."
"We dedicated our performance to the amazing medical professionals and front-line essential workers who are putting themselves at risk so that we can be safe and taken care of," the young choir members from Palisades Charter High School told Everyone Matters president HeathCliff Rothman.
"Moon River," the poignant classic from "Breakfast at Tiffany's," was their unanimous choice, adds choral director Jaco Wong, who conducted the youth and can be seen on camera in the final moments.
Why "Moon River"? "It was the song they all said they felt connected to," says Wong, who is also choral director of the nearby Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church. "We had performed that song in February as part of a concert of movie and film music, and when I suggested performing a song in quarantine, "Moon River" was their unanimous choice."
The two-minute performance took three weeks to put together, Wong shared with HeathCliff, who found out about the video from teacher Sara, a friend, and was as moved by it as she was, and wanted to share it with the world.
Wong says, "Once we decided, we all immediately went to work to make this happen, including my prepping the material for them, and their individually recording their parts for me."
Audrey Hepburn, who memorably sings "Moon River" in "Breakfast at Tiffany's," would be so touched and proud of these young students and their choir director.
