Just wanted to say thank you for being an AMAZING resource! I bought your workbook and felt well prepared for my TEAS. I got 90% on the math section thanks to you. Seriously if anyone is debating on buying the workbook, just do it. I assure you, you'll be well prepared and feel like a math wizard after you complete it. Thanks again, Brandon!

hi quick question does it matter whether you add 15 to the 6 will that be a whole different answer or could it still be the same. This is where I get confused on which way to move the variables and coefficients?
@bcraftmath

You can move either term to either side. As long as it cancels on one side, you are good to go! Check this out: kzitem.infoE0pNqTeIm6I?si=g9F4QrZ80AFeIFnf

You can go either way. Try it out. You will get the same answer as long as you do the inverse operations correctly and watch your signs.

I ran into an equation solve for x with a solution set on the ATI TEAS practice exam 5(x-2)^2=125 the answer was {-3,7}. I was confused because I thought I was to suppose to apply distribute properties; the 5 to inside parentheses but instead it showed the 5 was divided from 125. Make me understand, what happens to the 5 next to the parentheses, could you just move it over to the other side for dividing? I'm not sure if this would be the same type of equation?
@bcraftmath
5 жыл бұрын
You can distribute... but... only after you handle the exponent (order of operations)... exponents before multiplication. What you need to do in this problem is divide both sides by 5 first.... so... (x-2)^2 = 25 Now... take the square root of both sides... x -2 = 5 or x-2=-5 Solve both equations for x... adding two will do this. So x= 7 or -3. Hope that helps.

How do you know which step to do first? I keep doing them in the wrong order
@bcraftmath

There is no simple answer to that because equations come in so many different ways (parenthesis in some but not others, variables on both sides sometimes, multiple variables on the same side, fractions, etc). The best thing I can say is PRACTICE. Start with ONE STEP equations and work your way up.

@@bcraftmath thank you, I’ve been working through your workbook and sometimes I get incorrect answers in the multi step equations when there’s variables on both sides. I never know which side you’re supposed to put them on or what numbers to get rid of first or if there’s even an order

@@keelykai4817 Give this a shot... in the workbook at the beginning of every section, there is a link that will take you to my website, which breaks down each section with extra videos. Go to section 4 on that website and check out the videos I have there for equations. I know I have a lot of videos, so this extra site linked in the workbook organizes them for you.

on this video, you say that "you like to move the smaller variable to the bigger side. In your workbook, section 5 #5 question c&d... Now I moved the smaller value to the bigger value and for both questions; my answers were both negatives. when I moved bigger value to the smaller one, both answer were positive which is the correct answer. could you explain? or maybe I did my math wrong.

Yeah I did that one before I got towards the end of the video and my answer is x=17 4x-28=-2x+6 Then I subtracted -6 on both sides. 4x-34=2× Then I subtracted -4x on both sides. -34=-2x Then divided both sides with -2 -34 divided by -2 I then got x=17

So you always move variable from the right side to the left side. In the first problem I would of moved 2x to the right and get positive 3x. Does it work from either side?

Commented before watching full video lol. My next question is when you did the first problem over you moved the 6 to the right side. Will the answer change depending on if I move 15 instead. I’m mildly confused because i sometimes get them right and sometimes I don’t

Since the teas is timed, how on Gods earth , how will one be able to move through the solutions at a fast pace? My guess is that you will have to know the steps involved. I have been out of school for awhile and math was not my strongest medium. Pray for me.

Even though plugging in the multiple choice answers is an option, I highly recommend learning how to solve equations. You will encounter these problems in future math classes as well. Practice is key, especially if you haven't had a math course in a while.
