One negative for me is that the IHD shows the price you pay including the standing charges whereas the mini does not, this means the price you see in the app isn't the actual price you pay, you need to add the standing charges on yourself, that's not good, there need to be a reading shown that includes this too.

It's fine, easy setup (though I did have to reset) and works. I don't use it much because I already had a myenergi Hub that does most of what it does. The disappointment for me is that it doesn't make any attempt to show real-time cost, only consumption. The IHD does try to show cost (but is always wrong - I was expecting OHM to fix this). It also hasn't helped my problems with meter losing connection - I regularly need that reset and OHM can't replace or augment the official connection. I'd also echo that a more secure case would be useful - wrapping it in black electrical tape to keep it shut defeats the point of it being pink!

Been using mine for months. Works perfectly. I’m guessing that this is the next step on the path to “your wifi connection” sending the data from the smart meter back to the provider. Makes sense as the old G next works get turned off. They struggled for ages to get my meter to see the public network to send data. Only current snag is that whilst this is the link between your smart electricity meter and the outside world, they still rely on the battery-run gas meter talking to the electricity meter. That doesn’t work in my sons house as they are both on opposite sides of the house, and the gas is out of range of the host meter.

A small correction. My IHD does show a pylon symbol and the power when exporting. When first installed the engineer said I should see this, but it took about a year to start working. Nice to have the extra detail but I am spending more time looking at the phone.

I received mine recently. A doddle to setup. The only criticism i have so far with it is that during the setup process, the blinking LED is hard to tell what colour it is flashing against the pink plastic. The instructions suggested blue, but mine looked red or purple.

The Home Mini is great... much better granularity than the default Home Display. Oddly enough I just got a second Geo Trio II through Insights+ from Schneider (Drayton Wiser). It looks exactly like my 'gas board home display' but also has better granularity, so the home display CAN do it. Why isn't it configured that way to begin with? Anyway, full marks to Octopus... and Schneider.

Hey there, the only feature that the app alone doesn't have is live usage - the Home Mini is designed to allow you to view what energy is being used, as it's being used. They're far more accurate than IHD's and are a fab device for anyone who loves monitoring their usage closely.

I think it needs to be more robust for production. I moved mine to different places to test connectivity and found the plastic case easily popped open. Also the receiving socket for the USB power cord came adrift from the PCB. This was not through any rough handling at all.

Weird that you do not choose to mention that the display fails to show accurate usage for smart tariffs such as the cosy tariff... I have had to sign up for the Home Mini because it is actually accurate on usage for these types of tariffs.

The IHD can be a bit wobbly at times and has a hard time keeping up with our smart tariffs (it's not our tech). That's part of the reason we developed the Octopus Mini that’s designed to relay real-time data octopus.energy/blog/octopus-home-mini/ You're also able to continue monitoring your half-hourly export data in the app or dashboard (this can be done under 'My Energy' in the online account dashboard & under 'Usage' in our app). 🐙⚡

I switched to Octopus Agile. Now I am using the “Octopus Energy” app. As UK is now British Summer Time (BST), I noted that the current price in my tariff is refer to BST in the app. To understand the tariff, 1. May I know the time is showing either GMT or BST in the chart in the app? 2. The price of time period of each 30 minutes means either GMT or BST exactly?

Hi there, your smart meter is fixed on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) & not affected by the time changes. So Agile still follows wholesale market prices regardless of the time change. Had mine a few months now, at first it was great, but I've noticed today that it's still saying I've only used over £4 of electric for the month which is wishful thinking but I know that's not accurate. It also doesn't give a current meter reading. I had so much trouble with the old style IHD since I switched from Bulb to Octopus Energy that's the reason they sent me the mini, but I'm not impressed with it.

Just signed up so guess it’s a long wait! 😞 Hoping to have batteries up and running soon so be easier to run this off the batteries rather than the grid since I can’t tie into the fuse box so the IHD will bec1 of the few things not running off solar/off peak electric. Plus it’ll probably work better with home assistant than the current, random stats provided by the API. Anyway I can bribe someone at Octopus to post one sooner? 🤔😂

I've also had one on order for a while as the gas on our IHD has only ever worked for the first 12 hours we had it. It's shown as disconnected ever since and I keep getting messages saying Disconnected and Welcome to Octopus

How do I get one? My IHD can’t even display what the true cost is as I’m on Octopus Go which is a split tariff at a cheap rate overnight. The IHD can’t account for this so isn’t accurate in the slightest.

There's a Home Assistant integration that pulls data from the API. Not quite what you're asking for but gives you a platform where you could pull together HomeKit functionality and Octopus Mini data, along with a ton of other services you might be using.

Somewhat annoying the mini only uses 2.4 GHz and not 5 GHz for wifi. I usually exclusively use 5 GHz at home but had to use 2.4 GHz on my phone to be able to use the mini.

Octopus has just broken the app that lets you use this dongle. They just issued an update that now stops me accessing the devices so that I can no longer see or change the Octopus heat pump settings. Why does Octopus issue untested updates?

Not really a game changer and the problem is for example if you are on prepayment smart meters and the electric cuts off and you don't have access to your main meters. You will need to use batteries in the in house unit to switch the electric back on, once topped up and this can be achieved with the trio in house. The pink octopus mini will need a phone to sync back up which will need power as such on both devices. This is not good when you need access to batteries and power banks.

Just because you don't use it doesn't make it a gimmick. Fantastic little device, great API, so few companies treating customers data and access with this kind of respect and decency. Most will go out of their way to hide and restrict this level of real-time data access.
