While late 1999 and especially the year 2000 were very horrid times for WCW, WCW started to get very good again during 2001 (the Cruiserweight division had gotten REALLY freaking good, they hired a lot of new talent (AJ Styles) and made the Crusierweight tag titles. The rest of the show was slowly making improvements leading to "THE BIG BANG: Rebirth of WCW" pay per view... which NEVER happened thanks to Time Warner / AOL selling WCW to WWE.

Well I kinda think that the costs surrounding the AOL Time Warner merger probably caused WCW’s downfall alongside an increasing monopoly from the WWE. Ironic how WarnerMedia (as TW is known now), have reversed their stance on wrestling with TNT airing AEW. Who knows, maybe Ted Turner is proud that they did that? Either way, from what I’ve read it wasn’t directly Ted’s fault. It was probably the bad cross-breed between internet media, print media, and filmed media.

I have heard stories that he said if WCW was making million's he still would have got rid of it he has been known to cancel high rating show's he didn't last long at Time Warner anyway. Shane Douglas brought up a story that when they had a meeting after Kellner sold WCW they wear all waiting for Ted Turner once he came in Kellner tried to shake his hand Ted told him off for selling WCW and put him in his place.

Ted Turner loved the wrestling business and all his "wrasslers". He backed them time and time again and wouldn't hear of any cancellations. And they repaid his gratitude and faith by wasting his money and putting the company out of business. It never should have died, it was all too easy for Jamie Kellner to pull the trigger. That's the bottom line.

That Time Warner merger killed not only Ted's power but it killed professional wrestling in the states, arguably an industry that has not recuperated from the WWE monopoly on the business but the only competition being WCW at the time did not and was not a benefit to anyone except Time Warner who wanted to wash there hands of it and Vince McMahon who was drowning in his own failures since the end of the 80s and subsequent decade. It's been 20 plus years and we are yet to find a viable alternative let alone see WWE fall to its own avarice, mismanagement and lack of ratings, how they go on is still a more well guarded secret than where they tossed Hoffa's body.

I believe SWAT Kats was cancelled because Hanna-Barbera was being restructured to produce original programming for Cartoon Network circa-1995 (i.e "What A Cartoon" project, which led to Dexter, Johnny Bravo, PPG) and was pulling away from syndicated programming, so both SWAT Kats and 2 Stupid Dogs were cancelled.

It's amazing that 17 years later, people are still mourning the loss of WCW, myself included. WWE is not for us, it's for fucking teenagers. WCW was real wrestling for men. I miss WCW..

Mr Turner is exactly right. Getting rid of ink was dumb. How usage of media nowadays will diverge it seems a safe bet to have paper magazine. Here in Gothenburg some ten yrs ago we had the telly and papers and emerging internet. everyone put all their money into the last one. then suddenly someone started Metro International.

folks ted turner can not buy back wcw because the naming rights was sold too wwe, and ted turner himself is getting too up there in age too run another business he's retired where he belongs. and also television is too small for two big wrestling shows too air, so one day one had too loose and go and that was wcw. the 90's were the best i was more of a fan of the wwf.

The only thing I give him great credit for is the movie Gettysburg! One of my favorite movies of all time! Time magazine kept a lot people working for many years so I’ll give him that too! Wonder how he feels about how CNN turned out after he lost control, it actually used to be a real news, not propaganda!

if anyone doesnt know this by now let me tell you, first of all, WWF/WWE bought wcw 17 years ago. Ted didnt own WCW at the time they were bought. same with ECW wwe was giving ECW money, yet they still managed to go bankrupt, than wwe bought out all its talent, with the exceptions of The Sandman. Now lets look at this now,CZW is now ECW, TNA, ROH, NJPW and a bunch of others have taken WCWs place, and if the rumors are true, than in 2020 NJPW will be the "Top Brand" yet there still getting better ratings than WWE, mostly because they have the strongest group in Wrestling history, the "Bullet Club". NOW LISTEN im gonna list down ALL the famous names in Bullet Club, if your not interested scroll down now. Kenny Omega (Kicked) Chody Rhodes (Leader) Luck Gallows (EX-leader) The young bucks, Finn balor/Prince Devit Adam Cole Aj styles (EX-leader) Shinsuke Nakamura Karl Anderson. if you were too combine every championship these people had, you'd have well over 30 championships, that includes 2 WWE championships and 1 Universal championship, not too mention like 9 IGPW world championships
