Above all his other beautiful talents, what strikes me most about the great Derek Trucks is that he seems to always be deeply in the "zone", for lack of better word. It's zen like, really. It's where serious musicians always try to get to, mentally/spiritually, to make the magic happen that takes them and their audience to a higher level. Depending on many factors, both external and internal, those "moments" can be evasive and fleeting, at least for us mortals. But he just seems to live there. Having such great players around him helps, no doubt, and he would be the first to point that out, I'm sure. But he's truly someone very, Very special. Not many like him and I'm so very grateful he's the sonic explorer that he is. Long may he stay in the groove.

Saw TTB withy my wife at Red Rocks on my birthday this summer. This is definitely my type of music (We rarely agree) rather than hers and she wasn't familiar with the band or their music. One of my memories of the evening, as Derek was absolutely shredding, she leaned over and said, 'Hes really good!' It might not be her preferred music style but there was appreciation for it.

It is such a REAL pleasure to have seen Derek grow up from opening for the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND ON JULY 4TH 1993, until now having played with GREG,AND WARREN AND DICKIE AND BUTCH, JAIMOE, OTEIL, MARC, AND OH SO FREAKIN MANY MORE.He has truly become a legend in himself being tutored(not that he needed it)by the ABSOLUTE BEST MUSICIANS THAT EVER LIVED WHEN HE DID.His work with ERIC CLAPTON was astounding,as he was when playing with B.B.KING,AND SO MANY OTHER GREATS, MOST ALL THE GREAT MUSICIANS that played while/when he was also performing. His moving on to SUSAN TEDESCHI'S BAND AND THEIR MARRIAGE, all I can say is WOW, he has given me such musical pleasure along with the other greats of our lives. If it wasn't for the music I so enjoy, I would not have come to where I am today, having been truly blessed by the music, message, love and inspiration these ladies and men have put into my life. Play long Derek, stay strong and well, keep on keepin on.

Many of us play music for one of two reasons: (1) to reflect our mood or, (2) to change our mood. Regardless of the reason, I've come back to this extraordinary performance on an extremely frequent basis. The combination of Derek's incomparable guitar playing and the power of Susan's soulful vocals AND the extreme talent of all the members of the band...well, let's just say that (A) each of the parts of this group is without doubt top-shelf but, (B) the whole is greater than the sum of the parts! I'll be listening to the Tedeschi Trucks Band to my last breath...and beyond. :)

A great show, by a wonderful group of musicians... and then, starting at 53:38 - in the intro to Midnight in Harlem - Derek Trucks gently introduces an exquisite, rare, exotic place... Then, at 1 hour and 11 seconds, his soft invitation (35 seconds of a single pitch, with subtle punctuation) levitates us fully, if we are just the slightest bit open, into that mystical place. Then he masterfully, generously shows us around its previously unseen landscape - until the end of the song. Bless you, Derek, Susan and the whole band, and thank you for the music.

Thumbs down is for Susan Tedeschi whose singing style reminds me of Aretha Franklin, except Susan's Gospell style voice is a far cry from Aretha's! Furthermore, her guitar playing is unworthy of Derek's skill and since Derek gave up his band, his creativity has been held back for his role in the T-T Band, seems to be a supporting role with Susan as the centerpiece of the band!

Before KZitem videos and DVD's of live concerts, the best we could have was going to a concert or buying an album. For the most part I had to settle for recording artists, which was fine and dandy at the time. Then along came the age of children singers who know nothing about playing musical instruments. They don't need to because some engineer in the recording studio can create the instrumental sounds for them and make every note they sing come out pitch-perfect. I consider that to be kiddy-porn-glam-pop, cookie-cutter music. But with today's videos of actual live concerts it's as if we can attend a concert without even going there. Consequently, I have far more respect for "performing artists" who actually do their own live singing and playing. Tedeschi Trucks Band is a great group of incredible musicians. The videos of their concerts, when recorded properly and professionally, are among the finest concerts available on the internet. Back in 1965 the phone company advertised to us that long-distance was "the next best thing to being there." This phrase applies to Tedeschi Trucks concerts as well. I am happy to say that I have had the good fortune and great pleasure of being able to attend 2 TTB shows, both in Madison, WI, including this one. My adult sons, who attended with me, love the band also. And they accuse me of being obsessed with the band. I plead Guilty, as charged!

I agree with everything you said, and I love watching concerts on you tube, but seriously people. Go to shows, it's worth the money. And artists need people to attend their shows if you want good artists like this to stay around. Or else all we will have is the children singers.. And that's no world I want to live in

I'm here so obviously I'm in. But real music is no longer restricted to real musicians. I appreciate the Big Pink sound, Blind faith, ABB, SRV, Albert and BB. But before I understood this, I was a true true hip hop head, and still am. There is a beauty to what the producer and emcee can do as well. Because while actually playing the instruments is ideal (lol, prob everyone reading this says it's necessary), what truly draws us to the ART is the emotional connection, touches the soul..personally I can find that in tons of places, whether it's Trucks playing the slide, Neil Young, Velvet Underground, Kanye west, or Action Bronson doesn't matter. There's finely crafted art in all genres.

One of the finest works I've heard in a very long time. It's the whole package, a stirring and primal melody; haunting, yet elegant lyrics; moving lead and backing vocals; all wrapped in a mind bending and beautiful guitar trip. How am I only now hearing this song?

What a great band. I am very new to them but fell in love with the fantastic musicianship, reminds me so much of my professional playing career getting a buzz of my fellow players. When Susan talks she has such a thin weak voice, but when she sings WOW this amazing fat sound fills the air. Dave the guitarist has a very unconventional style but certainly ticks all the boxes. I can't wait until all this covid is over if they come to the UK I'm first inline for tickets.
