The song in the intro is part of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" original score one of the most legendary pieces of music in cinema history, composed by one of the greatest, most acclaimed and accomplished film composers of all time, Ennio Morricone, his work in "The Trilogy of dollars" which this score is the second of, became the inspiration for every single other western that came after. One of the best performances i've ever seen of this music comes from the Danish Symphony Orchestra, it's a must for your time of leisure, as well as the movies, starring Clint Eastwood of course n.n

‘Ecstasy of Gold’ is Metallica’s intro music. Been to so many concerts I have Pavlovian reactions. Heart rate and adrenaline pump and I get goosebumps. This was a transition record from metal to more consumer friendly hard rock. Us old heads have issues with the change. They were our hidden secret of more complex music. However they had taken that direction as far as they could and wanted to conquer the world and they did. Thanks for such a great reaction! BTW this is after his record company finally sent a vocal coach to James. He only wanted warm up lessons and other longevity techniques.

James' voice from '88 until about '92 was unworldly. Seattle '89 and this show are two of the greatest live performances ever recorded. A little extra back story about this show: This was a free show added in the middle of the tour cycle. It was a compromise to stop the coup going on as the Iron Curtain was ready to fall. They wanted Western music, and they got it. The helicopters flying overhead were used to not only keep an eye on the crowds, but to provide cooling as well. I've been fortunate to see them 11 times on two continents. One of the best shows I ever went to was in Italy. An American surrounded by tens of thousands of local Italians. All of us there for the same reason. The music. All of us, singing our hearts (and vocal chords) out. A moment I will always cherish, and never forget will be a local kid coming up and saying "thank you for your energy" 10+ years later, that still resonates with me. If you have not yet listened to any of their instrumentals, I would really recommend it. "To Live Is To Die" while technically not a full instrumental is so wonderful.

This song also launched a different bands career based off of a cover, back in 2014 3 sisters from Mexico had a cover of this song go viral on KZitem (24 million views, they just wanted to show Grama how their music lessons were going), this caused them to pursue music as a career. They have released 3 albums, toured with Halestorm and Three Days Grace, opened for a bunch of big bands (Foo Fighters, Guns N' Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, and Muse) when they play in Mexico and have been featured on the The Metallica Blacklist tribute album covering this song with Alessia Cara (a Canadian Pop Singer). @@AaliyahCapili I got thinking later that I maybe should have added that they have 4 versions of that song on their KZitem channel and sometimes people confuse them, it is easiest to stick to the one I linked. The version I linked is the music video from 9/10/2021, but there is the original cover from 7/7/2014 (when they were 14, 12, and 9), a live version with Alessia Cara from 5/24/22 and a live version without Alessia Cara from 8/29/22 (this is from after the tour with Halestorm and she adds Grit and other vocal techniques when she sings it, she picked up a few things from Lzzy Hale). Halestorm is probably another band to react to I'd suggest "Lovebites (and so do I)" (partially because the Japanese band Lovebites, who you have reacted to, took their name from that song).

Good analysis 👍 Metallica unofficially has 3 eras . The first era was from the beginning until death of Cliff Burton or before 1991. The second era is what you saw. The 3rd era is when Rob Trujillo became the most recent member. As for this 2nd era, it is the Bob Rock era. BR is a co-founder of the Payola$. In its early days, they were into punk. BR was also the engineer for the late Bruce Fairbairn, RIP. The 2 recorded with Loverboy, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and Whitesnake. Eventually, Bob Rock left BR to become a producer. He produced The Cult in the same year as Metallica. BR got a singing coach for James Hetfield and got Chris Taylor, ex member of The Payola$, to assist Lars Ulrich on drums 🥁. JH listened to the AC/DC album Back in Black ⚫ while writing ✍ Enter Sandman and the remaining songs for The Black Album. Note 📝 that AC/DC hired Mutt Lange as producer. ML happened to be a singer guitarist and bass guitarist. After that album ML worked with more musicians: Huey Lewis, Loverboy, Foreigner, Thomas Dolby, The Cars, Billy Ocean. When ML worked with Bryan Adams, Bob Rock was working with Metallica.

I think we have a super-fan! As strong as their fan base was before the Black album this was the jam that launched them into the stratosphere. (much to the chagrin of alot of that fan base). I read somewhere a long time ago a reporter in a music trade magazine describe his voice perfectly when he said his voice is like a lion roar. I, personally, love the early albums. But the later albums, particularly Black, Load ,and Reload is when they really hit their stride. And James' songcraft and lyric writing (my opinion) is top shelf on those albums. Check out "Bleeding Me", "The Outlaw Torn" and "Low Man's Lyric".

James Hetfield definitely has surprisingly maintained that high pitch kinda scream-singing (if that is a word to describe it). A few years ago his voice kind of dipped off but after covid and their time in the studio recording their latest album I think has resurrected his voice since it definitely seems its relatively back (I mean he's in his 60's now gotta give slack). I really like his raw kind of feel in his voice. Its mot notable in their live performances and on their earlier albums like Kill E'm All, Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets after Puppets he kinda had "got it" with he sound and tone which he has mostly retained throughout. So with that in mind Whiplash, Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets are my highlight songs to pick that demonstrate his voice well.
