These are beautiful, and it looks like they‘re also well-engineered devices. I don‘t care about the price because I‘m not going to buy them. But I wish more companies would design things that are as appealing as these.

And I don‘t see the market oversaturated with well-designed digital recorders that also contain moving parts. Hopefully somebody else will come along with a better idea, but somebody has to do the first step.

Honestly, I think these devices are awesome. This will pave the way for other companies that will make it cheaper. I can't afford it but if I could, I would buy it just to try it. If you want it to be cheaper then make one and sell it for cheaper.

Gotta say the TP-7 is some damn fine looking gear and something I'd probably buy. ZOOM recorders and DAWS are such inelegant solutions. I've wanted something like this since DAT recorders fell out. Pricey as hell . . . but I think I want . . . I'd record so much more

I've been recording on a rack mount Alesis 24 track for like 20 years . . . works great but it's not portable and just like computers, I also don't find my home studio very inspiring, nor am I there 3 month per year.

Fact you call other recorders *inelegant* yet this recorder can only record 3 stereo inputs for a maximum of 6 mono, is a far stretch from your 24 track rack system. Nothing you have posted makes any sense what so ever. So suddenly a 6 track recorder will allow you to make more music, when these 6 track recorders already exist?

I think the potential for the TP-7 to be the world's smallest turntable has been overlooked. I just hope that it will be possible to have dual (or more) layering capabilities so that you could use one of these devices to mix tunes with (rather than needing two TP-7s). I would buy one if this was an option. Denon have done it with their SC series of turntables, so over to you TE!

That tape is crazy but I’m wondering if the TX-6 can record onto a thumb drive, is there any need for the tape? I knew the spinning disc was taken from the OB-4 knob. It’s a great idea and design. I have the Op-1 field and it’s quality.

My understanding from this demo is that with the TX-6, plugged via USB into the TP-7, you can record 12 tracks as independent recordings. TX-6 on its own records a stereo mixdown (2 channels) if I understand correctly.

That transcription to text really isn't something new or special. You can do that with every Android Phone (and probably Iphone too). And you have it in your pocket anyway, so for that specific use case it doesn't bring anything better to the table. Heck, the newer Google Pixel phones have it built in to the system so you can instantly record from the lock screen and have it transcribed. In fact anything goes. Telephone calls, playing back any audio. Even a function when you phone an automatic answer service where you have to choose options form a menu. That menu is shown as text on the screen! And if you want quality recording on the phone, you can always use some adapter into the USB port where any kind of good mic/mic preamp can be connected. Or a really good blutooth version to keep it small.

Although I like them both, and totally applaud everything Tobias said, I live in the real world, a world of having bought four TE products which a wonderful...but are all very, very poorly produced. So that's certainly not a genius design company.

Teenage Engineering is basically a lifestyle brand for hip, urban rich kids, the Apple/Influencer generation, they're first and foremost a design company. It's a case of uber-cool minimalist aesthetics over functionality, kinda the perfect analogy for the shallow and dilettantish folks that these overpriced gadgets appeal to. In this day and age of rising income inequality and conspicuous consumption, it's no wonder people justifiably hate on this company. If you can't afford their stuff, it's because they don't want you to.

I'd say that there are plenty of us that could afford their products but just don't want to deal with their overpriced controlsurfaces, tailormade for ants. In addition the price / performance ratio is way out of whack. The Mic can be replaced with a Neumann, the field mixer with a SSL desktop mixer and I'll take a Tascam recorder any day of the week over their TP-7

You could argue Moog is a lifestyle brand, yet they bring a whole lot more to the table. Apple might be expensive, but their products perform well and are generally fit for purpose. TE are marketing their products to the music community and not so much to the hipster tik-tok scene. They are simply taking the piss.

On your website, it is priced at 1299 pounds for the TP-7, which equate to around $2150 CAN ! 😂😂😂 I am listening to all of your videos, they are great. But I will pass this one. Asking $ $2150 CAN for this device is absurd, criminal, and frankly insulting from this company. Overhyped, overpriced. Any other company can come up with the same list of features, for less than half the price. Also, I have never heard press release for sales figures of their gear, no wonder! Being arrogant in a market place is one thing, especially when you 100% price gouge your market, taking the piss of a piece of furniture that costs maybe $50 to manufacture and sells for 30 times more is just a serious piss take. Buy something cheaper. Additionally, the people being outraged dont know anyrhing about the research time, personnel costs (who knows what they need to pay their engineers, designers and administrators in order for them to stay in the company) , Stockholm studio rental costs, and so on. Do you think it would be fair for people to complain that Picasso priced his paintings too expensively? What makes anything else any different?

Yeah I hear you. I probably won’t buy this stuff as I’d rather buy other bits, but the level of engineering and manufacture is incredible and I’m happy they exist. The design is perfect, and not everything has to be super affordable. I have an OP1 and an OPz and think they make unique gear. The R&D, custom machining and tooling etc is very very expensive. I’d guess those units cost a few hundred euros to manufacture!

@@dcpayne5264 I wouldn't fall for the TE propaganda that easily. Custom tooling is expensive, but it is not that expensive. A profit margin of anywhere between 500% up to 1500% is not common and it is certainly not good for the industry. They are entitled to charge whatever they like, while the community at large is entitled to see them for what they are. A lifestyle, influencer company that is desperately trying to sell their products to musicians.
