The “popular girls” would be relentless about them & call me ghetto. I’m white passing but my mom is mixed & they’d say awful things. I remember one time a girl slammed a book on my hand and goes “oops” and they all started laughing, like they were trying to break my nails.. (wouldn’t have even broken them, just hurt..) I was known for always having long nails and even into high school girls would post statuses about me when Facebook became popular.. so weird. The same girl I actually searched her fb for the status and screen shotted it because she gets her nails done so long now and always flaunts them 🤨😂 a lot of white girls now have the exact “ghetto” style & nails have become very gentrified if that’s even possible. $200 for a set because a girl is doing the exact work a woman in the hood has done for years 🙃

The short answer is: you don’t, at least in my country. The long answer is: either referees or coaches (usually you coach will check you pre game) will put you in time out and either make you file or cut them. It happened a lot when I was in school/university. It’s not because ‘iTs nOt ClAsSy’ but because playing with nails this long is ridiculously dangerous for both the player (a bad receive could easily tear a nail from the nail bed) and her teammates (she could either scratch or hurt someone’s eye accidentally). It also applies to soccer for similar reasons, especially if you’re a goalie.

Yes. Not giving kids choice and freedom of expression can hold some of them back when they become adults. No. Maybe you have no kids yet. But it’s not “holding them back”. Children are free to learn new things and adventure/experience things that will aid them in development. Certain things however, like certain clothing, beauty habits, late night schedules, etc, do not advance children mentally or emotionally. It only makes them LOOK older than what they are, which often brings bad attention from others, OR a bad attitude in the child. It can create a greedy or gluttonous child. Parents aim to avoid that. And they are correct in doing so. My parents protected me from those small things that I thought were insignificant but grew up and understood exactly why they didn’t allow such things.

My mom didn’t care for the extra long look , nor did she found it safe for a developing child with constant chemicals and Uv lights , so we met a middle ground.

For me, it's not much about the parents but rather my calculator haha. I'm a mathematician and a chemist and most of the times it requires me to type at a very fast pace. It's like touch-typing on caffeine. When I had long nails, my typing time was super slow and I ended up getting the wrong answers just because I accidentally pressed two numbers instead of just one..

I'm one of those teens that go over the top with creativity and make it come to life! I saw this gorgeous Dior purse that i can't afford because I'm broke so i had a genius idea of practicing doing them by myself (with the help of a friend) and recreate the design on square design nails. I ofc applied the gel base after prepping my nails but instead of leaving it just flat, i made a diagonal grid indentation and textured it further with a nail drill (it's like a file) after setting it. I then applied a thin layer of a semi matte baby pink nail polish then set that too. Then i glued little rhinestones in every corner and on my ring finger i put a little champagne colour ribbon and a pearl. I was so proud of them! They paired well with my victorian/urban style outfit

These "crazy" moms don't want their teenage daughters to get sexualized... That's it. Long nails have been associated with a more "sexy" look for decades now. I'm not saying it is an inherently sexy feature, or that it should be. Or that teens shouldn't be able to express themselves through their looks. BUT ignoring facts doesn't make them any less factual.
@chasingdreams3056
Жыл бұрын
@@klerushka Sad fact is, they're gonna get sexualized anyway, just for existing. That's the world we live in. I don't think that's a good enough reason to repress people from expressing themselves. In fact, it perpetualizes the cycle of sexualization and shame. The focus should be on educating people and de-stigmatization.

Honestly nails are a luxury, if the kid can pay for it let them do their own length. But if their parent is paying for it, then they ought to find a happy medium in length. It’s not as deep as everyone is making it out to be. There’s also the option of press ons that can curated to to whatever to kind wants if they’re buying them. So do what you will with your money but to be upset because your parents won’t let me get a desired length and blame it as not being independent is simply not true.

Okay, so, my daughter is my own because I paid her bills? It's the minimum for the kids. @ryn How do you expect teens, who will be adults in a few short years, to make life changing decisions as adults if you can't let them handle their f-ing nail length? 🤨 your attitude is weird af and serves no one but yourself and your need for control, and only because you lack control of your own life. Parent ≠ dictator.
