Thank you for your patience on this one guys. There were several times over the past month where we wanted to release it, but then just kept going back to tweak and add more. We don't really see this as "Complete", or any of our guides for that matter, but eventually you just have to let it go and release it. Despite being over 2 hours long, this guide should still be seen as an introduction to Yoshimitsu. This character is a bottomless ocean in terms of the strategies you can devise. We highly recommend checking out www.manjikai.com/strategy/strategy-blog to go further down the rabbit (or squid) hole. A huge thanks to Jesse @Setnomessej for his invaluable feedback during the creation process. An excellent Tekken player and just a top-class bloke all round. And of course thank you also to Poly.Libz, whose 30+ page Yoshimitsu tome was the foundation on which the script was based: docs.google.com/document/d/1h_wVVg7l1aUPy0sh-3gTl5sOf2IUFthrgO9VispyL_w/edit Another guide we highly recommend checking out is UberDuder's stellar Yoshimitsu bible: docs.google.com/document/d/1LNRs0FHS1ixKygpav6e1NLJ73DuqxL49qQA3V15rbEY/edit# Study all these materials and you'll be well on the way to Manji mastery. Soru! And now for some community feedback from the comments: --- L O V E L A I N: The alternate input for the sword sweep in actually FC b+1 - no need for the d/b. Probably not important for stick users, but I use keyboard and have hit it many times using that input. DGF 3+4 is in fact not an unbreakable throw, it is an unblockable attack throw (notice how the initial hit does damage and has the unblockable hitspark). It will damage and knock down the opponent even on trade. For some more combo stuff: 1SS d/f+2, f,f+4, BT 4, cd+2 S! qcf+1 (72 damage or 67 damage if the opponent stays down) - the qcf+1 is supposedly escapable with a frame-perfect toe kick, but I've never seen it happen 1SS f,f+3, cd+2 S! f,f+1+2, BT d+1 (75 damage or 71 damage if the opponent stays down) 1SS SS+2, 2,3 S! f,f+1+2, BT d+1 (67 damage or 63 damage if the opponent stays down) For wall combos, the most damaging option other than u/f+3+4,b+1,4 is d+2,2>d+1. Delay the last hit just enough so that it hits grounded.. The timing is pretty tight though and it only does 2 more damage than d+2,2,1. I also like f+3,3 when going for an u/b+1+2,n+1 tech catch as it does respectable damage and leaves you with plenty of time to hit the techrolling opponent. Freeflow Dude: 2 things that are very minor but i find useful for yoshi that weren't in the guide are just some little combo stuffs. In NSS you can get a flash after a ch 2, tying kuma for fastest ch launcher. And a little tech trap for an extra 20 damage for a combo. While doing his bnb, substitute the 2 jab with a 1 jab, and end with an undelayed d+2,2. Buffer a qcf+1 and the opponent will have to do a side roll at the right time, or do getup kicks at the right time to beat it out. It hits grounded and does 20ish damage. Useful to pull out once or twice for comebacks. --- As ever, keep it coming guys! This will actually be the last Breakdown we produce for a while. After this we're going back to the Essentials format until we cover the entire cast. For every video of this size we could have made 5-8 Essentials, so we feel this is the best way to serve the community for now. Once everyone has a guide to their name, we'll conduct polls to see who gets the next Breakdown. Thanks again for watching everyone, and stay tuned for some big announcements soon!

I played Tekken very casually and then kind of dropped it once I realized that the difficulty level of playing Yoshimitsu competently had really skyrocketed. (I was never a very competitive player). I miss Tekken, and so I want to get back into it, and I can't imagine NOT having Yoshimitsu as my main, so breakdowns like this really help. Thank you so much!

This is the most in-depth and useful tutorial I've found on Yoshimitsu, incredibly well done! With such a diverse and complicated character with tons of hidden moves, it's almost impossible to cover everything about him without leaving something out. Here are some things I think are potentially important and worth mentioning; Spamming 2 too soon from f,F+2 won't allow for the extension, so spamming isn't viable. IND immediately after f,F+2 on hit 2 immediately heals Yoshi 4 points of health. MED heals for 1, 2, 3, 3, 3... health respectively for each tic. IND heals 3 from the start. qcf+2 drains more health when behind your enemy. Useful after IND teleport up close. You can enter FLE as you go into BT by hitting d+[1,2] although this can be difficult. You can cancel d+1 by holding back. There's some more of Yoshi's hidden arts and quirks that can be found at ManjiKai. Again, well done on the guide, you taught me some new and interesting things I wasn't aware of. I appreciate it very much.

As a player who seldom uses down jabs, I feel like using it as a panic tool is a bad idea because it doesn't really do much even if it hits. If any thing it makes the other guy want to pressure you more to bait it out. Also there is usually better options than a down jab in that situation. However the can be useful for certain "mixups" to beat all options. I play Noctis and I never really find him lacking one a massive disadvantage.

Down jab's strength is it's simplicity. In terms of risk reward ratio it's actually pretty bad. Linear, obviously susceptible to being crushed, and little reward. Yoshimitsu has no shortage of panic moves either, but it does reinforce a point about him; he's not a character with many simple, catch-all options. All his moves are highly specialised, which is why he's so hard to use.

down jab is pretty convenient against some characters like howarang

It's a low crush, fast, and gives good frame advantage on hit.

Yoshimitsu used to have down jab all the time up to Tekken 6. The strength of low jab is advantage on hit and ability to instant crouch cancel with would give Yoshimitsu really strong mixups. I wish it would come back :)

1:01:10 "though use it (RD) as early as possible (in a combo?)", isn't this counter productive? While in rage, you deal more damage. By using the RA right away, you lose the rage damage bonuses. I can see your point, but it seems to me like both ways are good, depending on the combo and placement on the stage

Not far into the video, so no real input to give yet, but... Tenchu's music already makes this worth all the likes I can give (which is, sadly, exactly 1).

A note on f,F+2:2 - it can then transition into IND with f,F+2:2, d+3+4. While IND doesn't seem very useful with the opponent in the back, there are some merits: first, you actually recover some health quickly (I think you get 4 HP back or something), which isn't much, but not nothing, neither. Additionally, BT IND 3 is actually useful in getting away quickly. What I like to do is f,F+2:2, d+3+4 IND 3 to create space and then just do a BT 3, BT d+1 when the opponent approaches. Works surprisingly often.

1:16:00 Kincho reversal also option selects Gigas' Rage Drive. If you mash 1+2 after Gigas' Rage Drive, you will either get the kincho reversal for his 1 or 2 punches, or interrupt him with KIN 1+2 if he does the charged version or the dive.

would be neat if you can update the description with changes to yoshi's move in s2/s3, but hey, THIS IS SUPER AWESOME even without that!! anyway that Rage Art editing is pure art, you're an artist.

This was a damn good guide, and hit every talking point about the character. 2 things that are very minor but i find useful for yoshi that weren't in the guide are just some little combo stuffs. Amazing guide overall, will really help out new yoshi players, and even help experienced ones brush up on his hugeass movelist.
