Answering some of your questions: 1 - Green ranks is the low/average strata of ranks. Still, to get in there in a few hours without any competitive fg experience is a good sign. 2 - Theres not really an established format for clips in fighting games. There's full matches with and without commentary, clipped fragments matches, meme clips. You can do pretty much what you want. I would recommend to see some content on youtube until you find your formula. 3 - ws4 is a near universal low punish, it doesn´t lead to a combo but it can be your first go-to option. Theres a very short That Blasted Salami video explaining how the while standing mechanic works. 4 - T7 had a punishment training option in training mode so this one also should. It´s a great way to practice blocking, punishing and combos at the same time. That whould help you with your problem blocking lows. Congratz for the rank up and welcome to the FGC.

1. The heavily edited clips suit this style of video better, they carry the "story" of what's happening better. 2. That db3 low is actually pretty good, along with d4. I also like db2, since you can use some of her strong moves from crouch afterwards.

Any examples? It seems everyone in this space just uploads 1-5 full games as a video while showing full matches/rounds, which is impossible to show progression the way I want to. I’d love some good examples.

Sajam has a good video called "Advice for New Tekken Players (From a New Tekken Player)" that would probably be a good watch. Its good to see that you seem to have a mentality of improving over time, and thats great. Theres so many things that you can do to improve, and lots of them, notably niche specific defense optimizations, only come up as often as you see a player who uses that particular option on a 1/20 shot of seeing a character. Its ok to lose interactions to a low youve only seen a few times or a grab with an ambiguous break input. Those things happen to high level players quite often, the difference really is how fast they figure out how to change how they approach the interaction next time to try to try to get a favorable outcome. In that same vein, using moves or strings that are 'bad' is sometimes ok, in fact alot of the time it is. If your opponent doesn't know how to punish something, if they only punish it on the 5th time you attempt it, you got 4 above rate uses out of it. Knowing your character becomes knowing all of your 'safe' options, aswell as most of your unsafe ones, because you know when the risk reward is good for them, and you can overwhelm your opponents mental stack by having a few dozen options I frequently use and not 5, which makes them lose interactions that on paper they would win. This process of course takes time. Took me a long time to get there on Julia, and I'm nowhere near there on other characters. Other 'recommended reading' I would look at is Core A Gaming. Lots more general content on the FGC, but a few good Tekken specific videos aswell. 'Playing Fast and Slow' is probably the most relevant given that you seem to understand frame data and such.

Having played for almost 8 yrs of competitive Tekken, this video is a huge help in understanding the growing pains of new players; especially since I'll be teaching some of them soon. Really a good resource to build-around a good lesson plan. Can't wait to watch more! As for personal tips during your journey, I really suggest you become more aware of moments where you can and can't hit your buttons. An example would be whenever you block a move from your opponent, it's a good sign to take your turn and go on the offense. Inversely, if your opponent blocks your moves, start blocking because any move you throw after will be slower than whatever they will do. Hope this helps!

@@VDViktor Why be a d**k about it when pointing it out? Genuine question. Anyway listen, mate, YES there are always exceptions to any rule presented, thanks for pointing that out. But my point was to just give him a good rule of thumb to start from before he goes deeper in learning frames and frame traps. Idk if you saw his plays but at his level, ch frame traps are levels above what he needs to worry about when he blindly mashes.

It is so satisfying and happy to gain new people into FGC. Fighting games are gems . There is no other genre exist in gaming your hardwork getting rewarded this much. Hope you get better and better. You will enjoy more. My recommendation . Play more quick (casual matches more) learn more then go RANK. For example whenever you can properly read low attacks and low parry them you are ready to go RANK.
