Many people today would have trouble comprehending just how tedious this restoration work was. Not only did it involved almost unobtainable materials, but the work was all but inaccessible using methods that are currently unheard of with dedication that is unimaginable. A rare audience has met a rare Craftsman.

Thank you for posting this video. My late husband was a telecommunications engineer and he would have loved this. We still have the 6 button sets in the house that he installed, which I can't get rid of because I wouldn't know how to replace what is here. I'm keeping a link to your video in my collection of items on Phone History.

Nice video and demonstration. I watch a lot of old movies that often have some operator switchboard scenes and wondered how calls were made back then. Thank you for making the video!

Thank you for the wonderful work you do to preserve this technology. I'd like to see two more modern calls that most people would have never thought of. This will require a temporarily configured 1A2 system with non-dial key sets. I'd like to see both originating and answering of calls on a 1A2 key system attached to a manual office. This was a rare configuration, but you see a very short glimpse of it in the AT&T film "Goodbye Central" where you see a non-dial aqua blue 56x series key set in use on Catalina Island.

Well I have some Non dial Key Set's. I do plan on wiring up 2 lines to my 1A2 and sometime in the future lines to some of my 1A systems. (400 series key phone's) Because there is no difference between Manual (common battery) and dial systems from a D C point of view they will work the same, ring up and hold. The one main difference is the 1A1/1A2 will time out do to the fact it will receive only 1 ring from operator.

Excellent and interesting video. While I cannot completely understand what all you had to do to rewire this elderly 60+year old switchboard, I can appreciate the difficultly after working on aged, weathered wiring harnesses of early 1950’s auto dashboards. Keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing your future telephone-related videos. Thanks.

Thank you for this interesting video. I appreciate the volume of effort that has delivered this operational equipment. I have several PAXes and their restoration has involved many hours of work. My favourite switchboard (I only have two small ones) is nothing compared to your setup. Have a super Christmas and a prosperous New Year. All the way from England.

Every video you upload is just insanely cool, it's like you run a telephone museum from your house and while it's something I'm not deeply dedicated to, it allows me to see devices I would otherwise be totally oblivious towards the existence of. Thanks for uploading and happy 100th video!

Another amazing and informative video. These old switchboards have always been an enigma to me; how they work, the cords, the switches, the lamps. Your explanations make it so what clearer. Thank you for bringing telephone history to life!

Thanks for a very good video. I never saw this type of board. I did start working as an operator in a hospital on a 608a pbx. Then at high school I worked a 555 board. Later in Germany I worked a 3cl military board before becoming a TSPS operator and later supervising the local 3cl board with conference and imts mobile. I currently have 555 boards, have been looking for a 608 boar for many years. At present I am trying to figure out the cord size of my replacement cords that seem to have a larger shell than the original. Great work, nice video.

How do landline phone companies assign numbers without doing it like u did and may I have a link to software is there any

I was briefly exposed to cord board PBXs in the early 1970s, when they were becoming scarce. In the movies a subscriber might hit the hook switch multiple times to flash the operator to place a serial call immediately after having placed a call or at the conclusion of a received call. Which light (s) would that operate at the switchboard? Would it be accompanied by a buzz or a ring or relay click? Was there a recommended number of clicks for flashing the operator? Is one sufficient? Is seven a sign of impatience and rudeness? Back in the day, even the subscriber was a more skilled operator. I found modern users almost incapable of initiating a hook flash for a serial call on a 2500 set.
