Don't get on here and preach. We're here for this beautiful music. Chis was amazing man. I met him a few times in my life going to his concerts. His music hits deep. Don't think of what the lyrics ment to another. What do the lyrics mean to you? Yes music it to let out what the artist holds in or thinks.but it''s all about what you hear and makes you feel. Isn't that what inspires us all?

Brainless Fun Sadly I never got to see him live especially with Soundgarden and it’s something I will regret until I die. I really enjoyed his music and I wish I would’ve seen him. I literally cried when I heard he died out of shock and genuine sadness.

@kaxtorplose the title is actually a double entendre, the band was a tribute to Chris Cornell's rommate Andrew WOOD, lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone, which Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard played in before Pearl Jam (and Temple of the Dog)

(Upon reading some of the other comments...)This song is not about religion, moreover it's certainly not about Christianity specifically. Its about the idealism that corporate agendas try to sell, it's more about a lack of continuity and synergy then it is about Christianity. All of which pertains to what the corporate policies of mainstream production try to sell us as a collective and that is to buy into disingenuous conformist ideals.

Sorta right and sorta wrong, sorry, its very much about the "Corporate Christians" and the harm they cause the world while not following the teachings of Jesus and the commercialism of Christ... Google Robert Tilton... and his ilk.

As I am a massive Cornell and Vedder fan I've heard pretty much everything they've recorded. And sure, Cornell's singing low on 4th of July, but I was pointing out that they're both amazing singers but different as Vedder sings very low and Cornell does the opposite. And if you haven't already, listen to Nothingman by Pearl Jam. Compare that to 4th of July and you'll see what I'm talking about. Cheers! :>

"It's about those who profit disingenuously off religious merchandise" ....No kidding. That is why I commented on an ad from a company who is trying to "profit disingenuously off religious merchandise." The only reason that ad showed up is because the word Jesus is in the title. That was my point. You are only repeating it.
@jerkbeast81

@kaxtorplose I know that part of this song is about TV evangelists, but he is also talking about Symbols of worship (wooden Jesus, Porcelain Mary) I know that Mary is MUCH bigger in the Catholic religions than the others. So I would think that he is talking about all the organized monotheist Christian religions.
