Though 40 years old, you still have the Timeless look of a Modern man, Jim. Many happy returns.

just realized that the early access account names are the first 8 letters of a player's name with an "MTG" attached to it.. which doesn't change anything with Jim's usual account name.

keep: Grief is obviously overpushed but for high power formats it opens up an interesting, non-blue line for serious interaction. Without force of negation and the good cantrips, I think it's interesting for Timeless to be a format defined by black-centric decks, rather than the blue-centric decks of Legacy

I say Keep Grief. I know it's controversial, but I think the card and the decks that do what they can to make the most out of it are quite fascinating. Low resource games can just be so interesting, it's hard for me to say that the card shouldn't exist.

Why wouldnt they keep grief, isnt the whole point of timeless that all cards no matter how strong or annoying should be playable.

I’ve really had the opposite experience. I find most games with scam when they get to do the thing are some of the worst magic I’ve ever played with just no agency at all.

To answer the keep or mulligan on grief. Mulligan and that applies to every free spell and most ways to cheat mana it's almost never going to be a fun play pattern

There's no force of will or negation in timeless, garuntee that rakdos or orzhov scam are the best deck in the format and it's not close at all. Is that really good for timeless?

Mulligan the whole Evoke Elemental cycle. I think a card is a design fail if it can go in any deck/archetype and make it better without having any synergies or purpose.

Mulligan on Grief as a card, but give us something softer to keep the archetype around. Making it a Duress instead of a Thoughtseize would be too much of a nerf, but perhaps removing menace (swapping with deathtouch to keep a keyword for the cycle)and having the etb lose 2 life like proper thoughtseize would turn it into more of an interactable race, meaning drawing aggressively can kill and drawing slowly can block.

It's been said many times before, but I miss Arena animations. At least the ones that aren't full-screen obnoxious. If any cards deserved ETB animations, it was the pitch elementals. They do have little ETB effects-most obvious on Subtlety I think-but those are really, uh... subtle.
