Exhausting is so on point! I try very hard to be "upbeat" when in a group as I hate having people always ask me, "What's wrong? Aren't you having a good time?" Or even worse, that one person that asks, "What are you too good for us here?" So, to make everyone else more comfortable, I try to engage as they do, and after a couple of hours, I have a headache, my throat becomes horse, and I can't think of what to say any longer. Someone always seems to find me when I sneak off to have that recharge break and feel the need to coax me back to the festivities. I really hate being treated like a shy little girl who just needs a good nudge out there and will see how much fun it all is! Many times, I am enjoying myself. I am just enjoying it from the outer perimeter of the festivities, that's all. I always found it funny that people seem to understand a person sneaking away for a "cigarette break" and will leave them to it, but if they find you "just sitting," there, alone, then you are in need of encouragement back to the all the fun. The fewer people I know at an event, the more fun I usually have. Because they tend to leave me alone. But the more I know at an event, the more I have to act as if I'm having the good time that makes my friends and family think I should be having and makes them feel comfortable. And it's completely mentally and physically exhausting! Fortunately, I now have a husband who can see when I'm approaching my limit and will sneak me out before anyone can catch us. And I love him for it!

“…and my core doesn’t like to be engaged” 😅 See, I can relate to what you said in so many ways! I’m definitely an introvert and my husband would probably tell you that I’m an extrovert, since I like people. I do…just not all at once, and I’m thinking I should have him listen to your talk because you explained me much better than I can. Not that you asked, but beside the fact that I get seasick, my idea of the worst vacation that I could take is a cruise - being unable to escape all the people would probably make me lose my marbles. Thanks for another awesome video and a great chuckle at the end. This video warrants tons of views BTW!

I hear you! My sister got married on a cruise ship so we all had to go on the cruise. We’re all introverts. It was AWFUL. You’re on a floating city and the noise never stops. Our room wasn’t enough of an escape because the constant noise and activity just outside the door. Thankfully, it was only a three day cruise. My husband and I didn’t talk to each other for days after we got home 😂

I'm an introvert, my husband was an extrovert.., two of our kids are introverts and two extroverts. People are often surprised to find out my daughter is an introvert because she is very good at conversing with people. My extrovert daughter recently took a week long cruise with her introverted best friend. Her friend spent the first 2 days in their room, reading and decompressing from work. My daughter was out meeting new friends in the halls, on the elevator, at the pool, everywhere! Her friend told her Mom, "Chelsea TALKS TO PEOPLE on the elevator!! 😂

Well said, well said!!!! Those icebreakers in large groups are a nightmare. I don't remember a thing after those horrible things except that I'm exhausted with a headache. Spot on with the air travel feelings. I close my eyes to avoid unwanted conversation or have my husband sit in the middle. He has the personality that never meets a stranger. Years ago I didn't know "what" it was that I had. I just knew that my husbands office christmas parties and vacations full of strangers were something that I dreaded for months and felt ill just thinking about it. Now I realize there isn't a thing wrong with me, I'm just an introvert. I'm more able to give myself proper self care now. I guess better late than never at my age of 65. Thank you so much for speaking so beautifully on this topic.

Hi, Tim! I never noticed the floor thing. Thanks for helping others understand that we introverts are everywhere and no, we don't need or even want to change. I am self-aware and know my limitations and the extent of my awkwardness. God loves people more than anything and so I know I'm called to do the same. I just do it a little more quietly and more in the background than others and that's okay with me and God. Have a lovely day, Tim!

He gets out of the house and does plenty of things, chatting it up with whoever will listen. Doesn't like large groups. Doesn't really even like small groups. ❤😊, my favorite training at work was the one that used Beiges Myers test then , broke communications techniques out into the different personalities. It was really helpful, in that I began to understand why I worked better with some project managers or contractors than others. It helped me understand when I needed to go for a walk in nature rather than go to lunch with others. I also learned I was in the middle on the introvert, extrovert questions and situations can bring about a more introverted side of me or the more extroverted side of me. Thank you for another informative and entertaining video.

Your ability to express your thoughts is amazing! I tried to read all the comments and it appears most people label their own personality as introverted. Since introverts are usually more sensitive toward others, I wonder if we (introverts) are picking up a kindred personality (you) before we know you are introverted. Do introverts type long sentences- because I have that down-pat, unfortunately. 😂

I don't know how true it is but I heard that extroverts are less sensitive to dopamine so they need more stimulation that would fry us out and that introverts produce serotonin in solitude. Some kind of brain chemistry stuff. The one on one socialization thing and hyper focusing on the simpler things like a drink or something beautiful are big signs.

I appreciate your insight. I have been an introvert my whole life and never liked being in the spot light. People want me to take charge but I much prefer to be a follower rather than the leader. When taking trips I let others decide where to go, where to eat, or what sights to see and I am happy letting them make decisions. If I really am not interested I will let them know. One thing that helped bring me out of my shell was having a retail business for 30 years. Now I love talking to new people when I travel. This week I am in Tucson AZ and struck up a conversation with a couple on a tour. It turns out that they live close to me. In the conversation I found out that they had ancestors that fought in the American Revolution and that we are related.

I think our small family is all a little introverted (some of us more than others). Our last vacation was wonderful- including three trips to a two-story Barnes & Noble to replenish the reading material. When we traveled with a larger group of extended family, the best was a cruise. Everyone could do as they pleased all day and just show up at the appointed time for dinner together. Our son and I skipped the excursions and enjoyed some great movies in the theater.

I'm so in agreement with you. Many people can't understand why and how I, as a single woman, like to travel , go to concerts and plays etc. By myself. Interacting with another person at an event, especially if they are not enjoying themselves or physically have problems can affect my enjoyment of the event. I also find that others feel freer to engage with me when I'm on my own than when I am coupled up with someone else. Except for the fact that it is more expensive to book tours or cruises as a solo traveler, I do enjoy traveling on my own.

I’m an introvert but I find when I travel alone, the most amazing things happen, random conversations, unexpected invitations. Then you can go to the hotel and relax on your own terms. Thank you.

What a fun video, or, more like a one-sided visit. I really can feel my battery running down around groups of people. When we sheltered-in-place for covid I never wanted it to end, and we have held to keeping ourselves to ourselves. It may not work for everyone, but it's a perfect, delightful, restful life for me. I've enjoyed all your videos. Love the cooking ones especially, and the de-cluttering, or, living an essentialist life.

My life barely changed during covid. My ADHD extrovert husband was another story. If we had been living in a city with a strict shelter in place policy, his head would have exploded😂

You make me laugh! In fact, I'm still laughing. If I were there, I would have helped you get up. That is the reason why I don't sit on the floor anymore. Great video describing an introvert. A lot of times, we are misunderstood. Sounded all natural to me. Your recommendations not only apply to travel, but life experiences/moments in general. Most introverts are loners. Thank you from one introvert to another!

I am the one who is introverted, and I agree with all of your points. Especially not liking large group tours! :) I much prefer to travel with few people or even alone. I feel more relaxed and like the freedom to do what I want. I feel more anxious when surrounded by many people than being by myself. It's peaceful :)

I’d say I was an introvert. When my husband and I go on holiday he will talk to anyone. I won’t talk to anyone. I don’t want to get involved with people I don’t know. Maybe I come across rude, but quite frankly, as I’ve got older I don’t care what people think. My worst nightmare is a wedding. I hate them….having a smile fixed on your face for hours with people I really couldn’t care less about and will probably never see again. My son is getting married next year and I’m already dreading it.

People always tell me i am an extrovert but after your video i think i am an introvert. I do like my alone time. I really like your channel, i am 66 am not retired. Was in a 30 year marriage and didn’t save much for retirement but live in a beautiful little town in Missouri. I love thectravel you do, i would love that. Have you ever been to Luxembourg? My grandfather came here in the the 1920’s from there. My dream is to go there someday

talk from the floor because you can prop your phone up on the chair or table... LOL. I am an introvert, but have to have alone time.. I recently went on a cruise. Thousand plus people all over the place. 2nd day there I never left the room except to eat a couple meals.. I was so mentally exhausted. No internet since I opted out of the Wifi package. I just slept... and enjoyed time alone. I hope to do some traveling next year. Alone. Plenty of time for decompression after crowded flights and other transportation. I like traveling! Meeting people that are interesting. But I have to exit and be alone afterward. After a day at work, where I am dealing with coworkers and patients all day, I like being alone at home.

I'm quite comfortable making 'small talk'with strangers and chatting with acquaintances but I don't want to do it ALL THE TIME! A longtime friend asked me to stay with her in an isolated part of Scotland and I refused because I didn't want to be 'on' all day. She reassured me that she knew I would keep myself occupied by taking off with a book for a few hours and she wouldn't have to entertain me so I think many people share your concerns. Yep, people talking for the duration of a long flight, is the worst. Thanks for the interesting and fun topic.

Well put from one introvert to another however when i have tried explaining my introvertism to an extrovert they just don't get it. My brother in law said but how can that be as you are so hospitable? I don't think they ever will understand in the same way i don't understand how they seem to never tire of social interaction.

I am content in solitude, and I prefer being alone. Yet in my career, I was in the ‘public eye’ like yourself. Is there something like an introverted extrovert? There should be. Good advice for traveling. Just how did you get up from the floor?

I think people are hung up on believing a person could only be either an introvert or an extrovert. I and many others are both. I am an introvert at certain times of the week and an extrovert at other times. I need both in my life.

The older I get, the less I need/want to be around people. People are exhausting. I'm planning a solo trip and looking forward to it.
