The Nolichucky Dam is safe after the river crested over the weekend.
Dozens of homes in the Embreeville community and other parts of Washington County have been reduced to rubble following severe flooding in the region.
Emergency officials say parts of the county were completely underwater as Helene made its way through Northeast Tennessee.
Residents spent part of Sunday working to salvage what they could, sifting through the thick mud left behind.
Beyond the Embreeville community are Bumpus Cove and Little Germany, portions of the county now completely cut off.
"Little Germany is a complete loss at this point," says Angela Chandler, a concerned Washington County resident. "The road to Little Germany is completely washed away. You basically have to hug the cliff to be able to get in and out."
Preston spoke with a resident of those now isolated communities who ventured out for supplies. He says the path out is very dangerous.
"We had to shimmy out kind of along the rock face of what little bit was left of the road," said Caleb Murdock. "At some spots there weren't but probably six inches to step on."
Late Sunday afternoon, a Black Hawk helicopter touched down on the baseball field at Lamar Elementary School in Jonesborough with the first load of evacuees from the cut off community.
