I don't see too many people talking about the underlying narrative between coach heuple and returning to his alma mater and former team after he was fired. You don't think he has a bit of an ax to grind? You don't think he strongly wants to prove what a big mistake they made letting him go? I see Tennessee getting close to 60 points in this game. You think the Sooners can keep up? Hype we'll be looking to embarrass the Sooners in their own house
@3rd-And-Long

@@IIISWILIII good points, and hey it’s possible, I don’t think the Sooners are scrubs or overmatched by any means. I actually think both teams are pretty good rosters. But you’re right, that can happen for sure

Gonna revisit this after the Oklahoma game. lol. Oklahoma has a glaring problem, a porous o-line and UT has one of the top front 7’s in college football. Arnold will be on his back too much.

@@shotcallershotty6576 was this in relation to OU vs TN? I think both teams are good. Not playoffs contenders just yet, but both have strong foundations. Young QBs for both of them

@@shotcallershotty6576 did you read my comment? I specially said Tennessee’s DL and LBs. that’s what a front 7 is. That metric is based on 1st in the SEC for QB pressure %, sacks and TFLs. Not to mention top 5 in the country. Oh and that front 7 is returning all DL lineman and linebackers. There’s your metric bud

Good call, are you thinking 9-3 or stealing one and finishing 10-2?
@justamaninTN

@@3rd-And-Long 9-3, I think. I’m a cautiously optimistic fan, not a sunshine pumper. I think there are too many holes on the roster to beat the elite teams. Our secondary is trash and OL depth is suspect. RB is a little suspect, too, but I’m not as worried with Tennessee’s scheme. But we need to fire our secondary coach. He sucks.
@3rd-And-Long

@@justamaninTN I like that analysis. Great points. Even a 9-3 year I think is a good year breaking in a new qb. Like you mentioned, with Heupels system he’ll be able to cover some weaknesses. It’s at least getting a good foundation
@williamwhitfield6225

@@justamaninTNThat’s actually a very reasonable take. I actually think yall beat Oklahoma their OL is super suspect and that’s a bad mismatch against Tennessees front. Tennessees secondary is a major ?, it’s a complete new cast of guys from the portal. Looks eerily similar to LSUs situation last year that ended up imploding. Tennessee is getting better but they still have one major problem and that’s depth. Their ones are competitive with anyone’s at most positions. But they just don’t have the quality rotation guys behind them. For that reason and it being Nico’s first year starting which is bound to have highs and lows. I say worst case scenario is 8-4, best case scenario is 10-2. And I think the reality is in the middle at 9-3, I think losses to Bama and Georgia and they drop another one somewhere a long the way.
@JetplaneVOL

Nah I think they will split the Bama OU game and honestly if Nico is rolling like we want him to be which I really think he will be then I could see us winning both those games and losing a competitive game in Athens.

I like that, great analysis. I can see that happening. These teams are in similar spots breaking in new 5 star QBs

Tennessee hasn’t been competitive against Georgia in years, even when they had Hendon Hooker and went 10-2. For whatever reason Kirby has Heupels offense figured out and a superior roster. I don’t know if they will beat Bama either, again a superior roster and Deboer is legit. I’ll pick them against Oklahoma though, Oklahoma has major questions a long the OL and that will play into Tennessees DL which will be good this year. I would call 9-3 losses to Bama and Ga, with another loss coming out of NC state, Florida, Kentucky, or Oklahoma. Tennessee just isn’t at the point where you can trust them to roll through the year with out a let down somewhere.

If Heuple gets Nico and the offenses humming (and I think he will early), look for the Vols to return to averaging around 45 a game like they did in 2022. It's the return of #volsbyfiddy

You don't think Ok has a roster capable of doing that? They have a top 10 roster blue chip talent wise. I think Tenn has a good roster too, but there's not much gap between these 2 squads I don't think

@@3rd-And-LongOnly thing I would say is Ol is a big question with OU, which matches up very favorably with Tennessees DL. But Tennessee has huge question marks on the back end and thier OL is not rock solid either. Tennessee is in that weird spot where I wouldn’t be surprised by them beating any one on their schedule. But I also wouldn’t be shocked to them losing to anyone on their schedule excluding the cream puff warm up games.

@@3rd-And-Long Definitely, I’m not a Tennessee fan but I do believe Nico is very talented. The question is what percentage of that ceiling is he going to be able to maintain throughout his first year taking control of the offense. And it’s not like Tennessee can kind of shield or protect him either, they need him and that offense to fire.
