What makes this one matter so much in my humble opinion is that it’s the Sooners very first SEC game. That’s history to be made. It’s also Coach Heupel leading the Vols into Norman, a town he used to run. Nico vs Brent’s defense. How will the OU offensive line hold up vs the Vols defense ?! SO many compelling reasons to watch ! I’m hoping for a great game with NO injuries for either team. I’m thinking Tennessee gets the W but I’m hoping the Sooners keep it close and make things extra spicy 🥵 Best of luck to both teams ! RTR

This upcoming TN-OU game reminds me a bit of the Alabama-Florida game a few years ago. Bama with first year starting Bryce Young looked like a death machine. Beat (at the time) a top 15 Miami team by 30+ and destroyed their cupcake after. Meanwhile Emory Jones was averaging 2 picks per game against cupcakes and Florida while taking care of business was still looking pretty mid against some really bad competition only for Florida to nearly beat Bama in Week 3. That prob happened because it was Bryce Young's first away game and it was the first time Bama faced a team with enough talent to punch them back. Florida also had home field (probably the last time the Swamp was truly electric). I could see this TN-OU game play out the same way but TN (whom I still believe is the better team) pulls it out in the end.

Even let him stay longer than he should and he still couldn't get it together and then when Brent Venables defense at Clemson completely embarrassed Oklahoma under his reign he was finally let go. Every single Tennessee loss in the past 2 years, with the exception of Georgia, has been because of them falling apart in loud away games. Every single time. OU Fan: Biggest thing is trying to keep Arnold protected. We should hopefully get our #1 and #2 center back (#2 can play guard if needed). Hickman transferred in and has yet to play for us, but 1,391 career pass-blocking attempts, he has only allowed six sacks (zero in 2023). Also having someone with the knowledge at center being able to call out defensive blitz looks and assignments is critical. Center is literally the QB of the OL and we have been working with #3 and #4 at that. Having a couple weapons back at WR will definitely help too. It will be an interesting game and I'm hoping that Coach Littrell hasn't really opened up the offense yet, because we really haven't seen a ton of deep passes with fewer threats on the field.

Lots of confidence by Vols fans thinking Heupel, Nico, and Sampson will have a field day. I think Josh is spot on: I think Tennessee wins, but it is going to be a much lower scoring game. OU defense is legit. They will need to get some TOs to try to give Arnold a chance to score on a shorter field. The real challenge with OU is their run game is not really going. It will be hard to beat a seasoned UT front with that OL and lackluster running game. If the OU D cannot get a takeaway for the O, then it will be a long night for OU's O as I am not sure they will be built to drive it on Tennessee consistently without a run game. Arnold will need to play a little safer on the run too as UT's LBs are disciplined and deadly.

Ou has to get their center back to be even remotely competent on offense against Tennessee. Nic Anderson will help but they are struggling with all these new players getting blocking assignments right. on defense ou needs their db's healthy. Ou is banged up there. I like Tennessee's talent they spent wisely on adding to their oline. I think it will hold up against ou while the ou offense struggles. If ou had a solid oline this would be a much closer game.

TN's Offensive Scheme is to much for OU , Now that they have a Deep Defense that can handle a few bad drives from the offense it seems an OP combo. Great Defense Fast Offenses. Just means when the OU def comes back out they still are trying to catch their breath. May stay close through 1 quarter . The must intresting thing about this game is how much does Heupel run up the score70+ ?

The main reason why we haven't seen as many sacs from Vols defense is because the starters have not had to play a full four quarters in all three prior games. I'm not knocking our bench, but if our defensive leaders are on the sidelines, which is smart to reduce risk of injury, the stats will be skewed. Unless another blowout ensues, this may be the first time this year we'll see the Vols D in full force for four full quarters.

Im a Vol but this game scares me. We haven't played anyone yet and Oklahoma is 20 times better than any team we have played. NC State stifled our offense for tbe 1st half...and Oklahoma has a defense thats light yeard better than NC State's. Also, Oklahoma jumped out on Tulane by 24 points and ended up winning. Tulane is a gokd team. Tulane qould smash any team we have playes so far. I hope we come with our A-game and are ready to play hard for 4 qtrs. I hope we are ready for that crowd noise too.

There is nothing we have seen so far to suggest OU can hang remotely close with Tennessee. But this is college football. Who knows? I'm not picking. (I'm an OU fan who likes Tennessee for two reasons: their beating Miami in 1985 enable OU's national championship, and Josh Heupel. Hope it's a good game.)

Nico is on the record saying that he prefers away games to home games. Now, that may just be bravado but he does not strike me as a kid who is into all that. I expect him to be locked in and in top form saturday. I'm sure Oklahoma is going to come after him, and they might get him a few times. But he's going to make them pay if they do it too much. All it's going to take is one mistake, one tip of the hand pre-snap on the defense that give away who they're sending and Tennessee's going for 6

Defense can pressure the QB and the seconday is #2 in takeaways. If Tennessee wins its not gonna be by more than a score. It also looks like Oklahoma gets some OL back and their 2 Wrs back. We haven't seen the full capacity of that defense..If you haven't noticed a lot of DL didn't play last game, and if they did, it was for very few snaps.. if Brent manages this game, takes advantage of substitutions, keeps the ball away from Nico with long drives, and the OL holds up with people back on their correct positions, im taking Oklahoma to win it.

Interesting ... Tennessee is playing considerably better competition than they have so far (yes I'm including NC State and yes I have doubts on Oklahoma), I'm just not sure this years model for Oklahoma can hang with the upper reaches in the SEC. My guess is Tennessee rolls enough to where the 'death machine' narrative only grows.

I'm a Vol fan. I respect the Sooners' program history and their record at home. Unfortunately, the fact is when they are this big a 'dog at home, history has shown they lose and don't cover the spread. When you take the logos off the helmets and remove personal bias, one of these teams looks strong in all areas and like a national title contender. The other team looks like they're still trying to find their way. You say Tennessee's secondary is untested. Maybe so, but what has Oklahoma shown on offensive line to make you think they are going to be able to protect long enough to challenge it? Vols win 37-9

Tennessee will have to use a silent count to snap the ball because of crowd noise.. That will slow down their O a bit and cause false start penalties in theory. Every bit helps. If OU's D can cause 3 and outs......... it can wear on the Vols D by the 3rd. That is the only hope my Sooners have. If we can't make them die by the fast snap............. Bad day in Norman. Snapping that fast is a two edged sword. But with a new OC and DC, injured O line and receiver corp........ I pick Tennessee by I don't know how much.

UT is up to 4 strait games without allowing an offensive TD. I think we both know Houston and UT aren't the same pedigree, and yet look at that game. Tulane went with field goals, but do you feel UT will have to settle for those too in those situations? Matthews at WR should be back to give Nico 4 WR options, he didn't have that in the first 3 games. Pearce Jr. is going to be in the backfield all night. They've been saving him for a game just like this one.

Why isn't anybody talking about the ONLY reason Tennessee has lost in the 2 years, other than to Georgia? It's playing in an away game with a loud crowd. For some reason, Coach Heupel struggles with preparing his teams for that. It's why when Tennessee lost, they lost BIG. And to teams they shouldn't have lost to. They didn't lose to the other team on the field. They lost to themselves falling apart because of the noise going on around them. Every time (again, other than Georgia... because, Georgia). Don't take my word for it. Go back and watch their losses and see for yourself. Florida. Missouri. South Carolina. Even the loss to Alabama. It's the same thing every single time. Tennessee loses composure and falls apart the entire game. At away games with a loud crowd.

Oh Josh..lol This might be a street fight for a quarter or just over, but in order for it to be a long duration street fight, OU's D must stop TN's rushing attack. Now, OU was 44th in rushign last year, 112th in passing D. Here are the scoring offenses they've played this season's rankings. 131st, 118th, and 54th in that order. Two of those games were close games. Is that OU pass rush enough to prevent TN from doing what they want offensively or pressure Nico? No. Iowa #5 defense tried that and OU is nowhere near that level of defense. REsult 35-0 TN and Nico wasn't baited in to putting the ball up carelessly and fell for no secondary pass traps. Tempo. On a hot day, can OU manage TN's tempo and no subbing problem for OU? I think for a quarter or so but after than, just like NC State, gasses your defense. Imo, the OU offense isn't much better than NC States, and if they get down to TN by two scores, they will be forced to put the all up and that is when bad things and turnovers will start to happen. Tulane was getting home time and again with 4! IF TN were to send more than 4, it's bad for Arnold and the OU offense. Now we understand why TN went out and scored a lot of points on a hotter day than the OU game against Chattanooga. They've seen heat. Close for a quarter or two than it's the TN offense show. TN 51 OU 27 Imo, if all you managed was 30 on Tulane, 27 seems a bit generous for this TN defense to give up. And your going to have to score 40 plus to beat TN in this game imo. I don't see that abiliy with this OU offense to do that vs TN's D.
