Anyone defending Serena here because she 'didn't say I Will Kill You'.... it kinda doesn't matter. She comes over to the lady when the referees have been called and says at 2:05 'Are you scared? Because I said I would hit you?'.... that's VERY clear in the audio. So she owned up to saying she would hit her - that is an outrageous thing to say, whether she said 'hit' or 'kill'. The problem with tennis in general is the umpires are so uneven with their decisions. In the case that has just been in the news, Carlos Ramos is a good umpire, and follows rules really well, but other umpires don't and it then makes him look bad and also makes tennis players think they're being picked on, when it's just that some umpires didn't bother to keep them in check.

So by your logic, If I shot at the sky and I kill a person who is in the 13th floor, is it an accident? What a moron, and the twelve person who liked your comment. He shouldn't have done that in the first place, just like Shapovalov never expected to hit the judge with the ball, that guy never expected his raquet to hit the lady. The overreaction is another thing, and that's arguably, overdramatic, but it doesn't change the stupid act of the tennis player.

Can you please elaborate on how can you just simply ignore the fact that it was an example (exaggerated obviously to cause a better understanding on my true point), to ilustrate the idea of: Both, tennis player and shooter (in my example) are GUILTY of doing something unnecesary that isn't by any means an "accident". If I throw a raquet, a ball, or I shot at the sky, there are chances that someone might get hurt. So, I repeat, isn't an accident.

+Serfo if you've ever played competitive tennis and are getting frustrated you know that urge to throw your Racquet will Creep up on you. I agree you shouldn't do it, but it happens all too often. The guy who fell down after being hit in the doubles match was milking it because he knew he would get the opponent defaulted and get an easy pass into the next round... Easy money. The line judge overreacted as well, come on, I've seen linesmen get hit in the balls, head, stomach ect, they keep going, cause it was an accident. He threw it at the tarp, not her. Verbal abuse is verbal abuse regardless of what is said. Serena wouldn't let it go and kept talking down to the ump. And, as I am sure you are aware, Serena's coach admitted to coaching, whether Serena knew what he was trying to relay or not is not the case, the ump busted her coach breaking the rules and issued a violation. If anything, Serena owes the ump an apology and should have ranted at her coach. The fact that she is sticking with her coach shows that she likely did know he was trying to coach her and only they know whether she knew what he was indicating or not. Where is your evidence of a male player swearing at a ref and not getting penalized for it?

Lost me at "male privilege". I have yet to see this privilege that being a male is supposed to bring me. As for the bias, where is the bias when Serena's coach admitted to coaching (ie. cheating) so the ump made the correct call and Serena kept bringing the issue up rather than take it up with her coach and/or the ump after the match. Pretty telling she hasn't said any more since finding out her coach confessed. In case you missed it, this isn't the only time Serena has had been penalized and in fact, there are numerous times that she argued with umps (male and female) and did not get penalized. She is known for being a sore loser and having a temper when not doing well and this ump is known for following the rules to the letter. Her fault for not doing her homework and realizing that this ump is stricter than other ones.

People judge these players so fast. You have no idea how is it to be there, to be frustrated, to be under that pressure...
@matonatomic

Before all these peole are tennis players, they are humans. And as humans, they must behave humanly. It doesn't matter how much pressure they experience, or how frustrated they get, they must be punished if they release their anger in a way that would hurt another person. They all know the rules, the code of conduct - and many of these incidences are just misfortunes (hitting the umpire in the eye, hitting the ball girl as she ran across), but the players actions in anger was reckless and responsible. Penalty.

Nathan Hu I'm a Canadian player, I know about this shit. In hockey, it's acceptable to get angry, that's why fights are kind of legal, but in tennis, it's obviously unacceptable to get angry. My reasoning is not shit, And if you're gonna try and prove someone wrong, do some research first.

The ball was traveling fairly quickly and it looks like it hit the nape of his neck which can be rather painful. Either way, hitting a ball after the play has stopped is completely your responsibility and the rules are clear that if you strike someone, you'll default.

@micha8469
5 жыл бұрын
The video shows nothing, that's true. it ends too early but you can see in the regular speed replay that in the end the server reached for the ball in his pocket and was about to hit it when the replay ended. And the further conversation showed that it was about hitting the ball with anger, probably hit the girl with it directly or it may have been ricochet or even just hitting hard and close to the girl what scared her. It wasn't about it, anyway. It was about hitting the ball with anger during the pause between points which he wasn't allowed to do.

Michal L, your post was helpful to me, someone totally confused at what is happening here at all. But it didn't explain what exactly was happening at 8:08 in slow motion frame by frame. She was walking. Then she just started falling straight down like she suddenly was trying to play dead? There was no ball that hit her there in that shot, unless it was her knees or somewhere like that; but I have a hard time seeing something like that being hit in such a way to cause that exact reaction. It was almost like acting, and it was confusing. To be fair, on normal speed - you can hear a ball being hit a second before that. But even that doesn't seem to make me think that reaction is directly related.

You have a tennis player acting like someone just sniped him in the head with an anti-tank gun, and lineswoman acting like someone just pickaxed her in the back, and the older lineman who acted like someone just chainsawed his leg off. Top notch acting right there. Be like the umpire who took a high speed shot straight to the face and still did his job. Leave the flopping to soccer.
