I prefer keeping the right hand on the throat of the racquet as I turn the upper body... this will insure shoulder turn... KEEP your eyes on the BALL not the strings. To your tennis success, Tom

I won't try to imitate Kyrgios any longer. All things considered, he's not a normal human being.

Have you talked about grip? I assume it’s continental. Great video series. Wish they had them for handball.

Continental. Enables quick alternating from forehand to backhand.

Continental is what I use... however, there have been great players from the past that would switch grips using Eastern FH and BH, back then they had more time... in today's fast paced game continental is best. To your tennis success, Tom

Nice video and great advice. But the volleys you are returning are not really 'putaway' shots. They can be easily returned. I thought on the putaway (where you stand close to the net and then hit inside the service line and with very high bounce that the other player cannot return) is hit with a hinge on the wrist. Can you please clarify? Thanks.

I see your point... I'm just demoing the technique needed... I am not that close to the net in this instance... and I'm assuming my opponent would be in the deuce court near the singles sideline so I'm going down the line with my volley... If I wanted to hit the ball harder I would simply speed up the swing and use the rotation of my shoulders MORE. Hope that helps... yes when closer to the net hit short angle... but be careful with the wrist... it still would not move much. To your tennis success, Tom

@@Fundamentalsoftennis Thanks! You are right...angles much better than going with the wrist action (and then potentially making more mistakes).

Late to this dance, but you nailed me, exactly. I realize that, at the very moment just before contact, I look up to see where I want to aim my shot. I do this for volley and groundstrokes. Very frustrating, but I'm still pretty new to tennis (at age 69), so I plan to keep at it. Thanks for all the great videos Tom...

Hey Walter, better late then never!! Keep the head still focused on that contact area... when you hear the sound of ball meets racquet the ball is gone instantly so it's safe to look up THEN. To your tennis success, Tom
