Great solo to learn and using his tricks to make it work, Sam Taylor was one of the greats, thanks for taking the time to show everyone 👍

Great work!! The sax solos from many of the 45’s back in the day were more than just filler and, as this example shows, little masterpieces of cool riffs, great rhythmic expression and dynamic sounds. Thanks for giving these the recognition they do richly deserve.

It certainly sounds like Taylor had the opportunity to think out his solo before recording it, but no one can know for sure. Not all session guys had that chance back then. I heard some solos had to be done in one or two takes because the music was handed out at the beginning of a session. Thanks for sharing your insight with the "little masterpiece" concept too.

So where are the saxophone lessons for shboom?

This saxophone solo is intermediate level, so I have to assume that those interested can already read music. I showed fingering with the transcription at 0:48, and explained the hardest part, the solo break, at 1:59, and growling at 3:41. The transcription is downloadable from the link in the description. If you have a suggestion of how I can improve, please let me know. Thanks.

@@seanhully yes I know how to read music, unlike the guy who keeps commenting on this video as if he's keeping tabs on u. Tell me about what started your interest in saxophone, cause u play as good as Sam "the man" Taylor

@@isabellaalder6950 Kind words, thank you. I started in grade 7 class band on saxophone and continued through secondary school. I was learning guitar at the time too. I wanted to get a music degree and had to choose an instrument. I chose saxophone because, at the time, I felt there were a million guitar players and few saxophone players. It was mostly a choice made by economics, as I loved both instruments. After my classical saxophone degree, I went on to study jazz. I mostly play in rock and roll and R&B bands, as I seem to do best with that style.

@@seanhully that's very interesting I'm glad you shared that will us I use to be in band in high school 9th and 10th grade I have been interested in instruments since I was very young. I played trombone for those two years in high school, my bestfriend use to play the tenor saxophone. I also have a half a year of piano lessons which was a fun experience. What other instruments can you play?
@seanhully

@@isabellaalder6950 Trombone is great and doesn't get enough attention. I also play flute and clarinet so I can double in pit orchestras for musical theatre. Can also play recorder, bass guitar and piano, though I don't bother with them as much. I work on singing too, though I'm mediocre at that. I need to get well enough that I don't suck.
