Here is the show's original Denise, understudying for Carole Demas in the role of Genevieve singing her dramatic Act Two soliloquy.
THE BAKER's WIFE is a romantic musical by Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein, first performed in 1976. The show had a three city tryout, from LA to Boston to Washington, but the planned Broadway opening never happened. Over the course of the tryout songs and actors were shuffled meaning that various soundboard recordings of different performances are all very different both in material and casting.
This recording is from the initial LA tryout at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. and features Topol, who had been replaced by Paul Sorvino by time the show reached Washington and was recorded, and Teri Ralston in a rare turn as Genevieve.
Recorded live from the soundboard of the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.
