I just bought a home internally wired with Cat7 in each room. Terminating these suckers is a pain. One thing in this video I do NOT recommend is stripping the foil layer. It is too easy to cut too far and nick the wiring. It's much easier just to unwrap the foil from each pair by hand, peel back the foil, and trim it manually with small clippers. Otherwise, that is one killer tool you're using! Way easier than the traditional punchdown methods.

bought new flat and layed cat6 cables. terminating all 8 cables was annoying. I can't imagine terminating cat7 lol

100% agree. I am networking my home using Cat7. what a P.I.T.A. to get the foil off each pair without damaging the individual wire sheaths. I used to terminate Cat5a all the time....this is a miserable process, takes 5X longer with Cat 7

@@JustinBollman And the increased benefit, at least for my use case, was negligible. If I could do it all again, I'd go back to CAT5

@@MrDoggerDog I agree. Unfortunately, I already bought 300 ft of Cat 7, now I have to make it work. for what it's worth I found an easy way to get th foil off each pair. You strip off about 2.5 inches, separate the pairs, then take a pair and just gently roll it in your fingers, the foil starts to just lift off and separate, then you can "unwind" it from the pair and get it down and trim it. My problem now is that I bought super cheap ends and they are junk. I'm waiting on better quality ones from ebay and those are pass through so hopefully the terminations will be more reliable. I've terminated one cable 3 times and it's missing different pins each time I test it. Frustrating.

Dang that looked a lot easier than I thought it'd be. Despite the foil, it looks far easier than individually punching wires down and worrying about them slipping out of place, or busting a notch if you aren't careful enough.

It seems I may have found the same tool. They are quite expensive, too. It seems that they usually go for $220. www.ebay.com/p/633649291 All sold out on DigiKey.

Cat7 and Cat7A will not be a future standard. Now the future is Cat8.1 and Cat8.2 (Max 30m in DataCenter) Will the Tera connector handle Cat8.2 I think so (Personly)

From what I understand, cat7 and cat8 can be terminated using shielded rj45 connectors... so it’s really just an issue of the wire rating (which is mostly a matter of twist rate on the pairs).

This channel is aimed towards professionals and not end consumers. That is why this is normally sold to Bang & Olufsen customers via a Bang & Olufsen retailer and installer. You can try to reach out to your local retailer and ask about your options.

Can I use a cat 7 where I have already been using cat 5e? Or these cat 7 connectors are for newer upgraded Ethernet ports.

@Blair Aquilia CAT7 is not a IEEE approved technology. You go blind on this. Cat6, cat6A and Cat8 are approved and recommended. Cat6A is way cheaper and do the same. Also compatible with many brands ....
