@ym5891

It's what makes Sarah Conner one of the most famous and beloved female action heroes in history. She doesn't start out as a badass, nor does she become one just because the story needs her to be. It's a logical and believable evolution with the movie referring back to what she was up to after the first movie; Hanging out with military guys and even showing her doing physical training while locked up in the mental institution. It also doesn't make her a superhero; It shows her in fear, anger, frustration in the video interview, the trauma when she meets the terminator again and just runs like hell not even noticing her son to almost becoming like a terminator herself when she nearly kills Dyson. But in modern movies in Hollywood, they tend to make all women badass and flawless. A good example ofcourse being Rey in Star Wars. And it just makes them so boring and unbelievable as characters.

It's weird, my fave scene is when the terminators both get their hands on the shotgun, and then each tries to muscle it away from the other and nothing happens, so they both just stand there for a moment, each recalculating the fact that the other is unexpectedly much stronger than an average human. Sort of like in the first one, when the terminator gets in the truck and tries to drive it but discovers that it's a manual, so then he has to just sit there staring at it for a second, while he recalculates how to make it work.

There's also a humorous callback to T2 in The Marine where one of the criminals refers to John Cena's character like he's a terminator; right in front of Robert Patrick who angrily glares at him immediately afterwards. Not only it's great action movie with everything you want from such a movie (great characters played by great actors, great story, great direction, great effects, great action sequences.) but it also has that little thing that makes a great movie an absolute masterpiece : it bears a message, it asks a question : What makes us, humans, different fro machines ? And, as characters, Sarah and the T-800 have mirroring journey : The Terminator is getting more and more human while, until John stops her from killing Dyson, is getting more and more machine-like, to the point where John is the only thing that keeps her human Since you think this is a perfect conclusion, I wouldn't recommend you watch the next Terminator movie, none of them are even close from the quality of these 2 first movies.

Again Madison, I love re-watching these films with you. As a fellow film buff, and someone who watched it at the time, I could make so many comments, but one that stood out was ... : 50:32 - James Cameron filmed a dream sequence with Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton, but it got cut from the final release. It was probably the original idea for the scene where Sarah falls asleep on the table in Mexico but they replaced it with the nuclear playground scene instead. AFAIR they dropped it for pacing reasons. Other things are that - This film was HUGE when it was released. Linda Hamilton was given serious props for her transformation, and it was the film that basically made Arnie the household name he is today. Cameron obvs went on to make Titanic as well. - Guns n Roses - There's no T2 without T1. The fact it still feels fresh with the number of callbacks and reversals in the writing is pretty damn impressive. One of the hardest callbacks is 07:24. Hard to watch at the time, and still hard now. - Some of the scenes (where Sarah takes a stick to the prison guard, and the Terminator walking through the SWAT team) were a LOT more violent in the theatrical cut. If you watch closely enough you can see the edits. I'll leave it there. Love your channel Madison !

James Cameron did not return for 'Terminator 3'... Jonathan Mostow did the 3rd 'Terminator' movie... and it was a worthy movie, even if it didn't surpass 'T2'... Arnold returned as the protector... What doesn't help is the fact that nuclear scientists said that this film's up close and personal depiction of the effects of a nuclear blast was the most accurate they had even seen! As for how it affected you, I understand completely. I got the same feeling from 2 made-for-TV movies from almost a decade before. "The Day After" (1983, USA) and "Threads" (1984, UK) scared the crap outta me! The first instilled great fear, the second broke what was left of my heart! I don't actually blame it for my 30 years of clinical depression, but it sure as hell didn't help! lol

@@robertcartier5088 Watching "The Day After" when it was first broadcast definitely gave me nightmares and "Threads" is way too realistic not to gut punch you. I agree that the nightmare nuclear explosion sequence is probably the most realistic ever attempted to simulate this on film but fortunately it is short enough to not permanent scar the viewer. I ended up interviewing a Western German exchange student after seeing TDA to ask him how he felt living in a possible nuclear battlefield with tactical weapons on either side of the border along with a 5-1 advantage of tanks on the Soviet side. Growing up during the Cold War definitely affects you. Lots of people got those dreams just from watching the evening news. I had quite a few dreams of seeing the mushroom clouds over NYC and trying in vain to convince my family that we needed to hurry up and get in a car and start driving north. Or more symbolic versions, such as Roman legions invading our town on elephants, conquering our neighborhood one house at a time, each house defended only by it's own inhabitants. But when I was younger, I also had similarly fearful dreams of waking up to find that a volcano formed under our home overnight and we were now teetering on the edge of the smoking crater. So maybe there were other issues working their way thru my mind, and the dreams of nukes and lava were just the vehicles to convey the message.

15:40 Funny facts: Ken Gibbel who played that guy with the glasses who licked Sarah Connor's face (Linda Hamilton) had a difficult time doing that scene because he felt extremely uncomfortable with the act, but Linda was perfectly fine with it. However, she and the director (James Cameron) were getting impatient and frustrated with Ken because they had to redo that scene many times because Ken would hesitate or completely chicken out which ruined the scene and forced them all to redo it until he eventually got it right. In the scene where Sarah (Linda) hits the glasses guy (Ken) with a broken broom handle, she actually hit Ken for real in the mouth even though that broom handle was a movie prop and the blood that he spat out was fake It hurt him for real and his reaction was genuine but he stayed in character in that scene to redeem himself for the many reshoots of the previous scene with Linda.

This was a wonderful reaction, Madison! The first words in your comments at the end nail it for me. This is a perfect ending to the story, just as "Aliens" was a perfect ending to Ellen Ripley's story. The issue I have with sequels is that Hollywood rarely knows when to stop. They don't respect the natural, organic ending of a good story, or a perfect ending if they're lucky enough to come across one. In the search for continuing to make the almighty buck they just milk their IPs to the point that, story-wise, so many franchises just don't make logical sense anymore, or the events or characters start to lose consistency, or they simply can't live up to what came before. As an artist yourself, you're obviously keenly aware that telling a story is an art form. I've always believed that part of that art form is knowing when to stop. Very few series are able to escape the law of diminishing returns in that regard. There's really only one series I can think of that has been able to completely defy that law. In my opinion. Tom Cruise's "Mission Impossible" series (with perhaps the exception of the 2nd film) has amazingly been able to make each installment better than the last one, and that series is 6 movies in!! There are still 2 more movies yet to come so that may change, but it's a truly remarkable feat. I'm not saying that it's my favorite franchise, but I can think of no other that has done that!

"This terminator is not a very good driver" The truck broke a tie rod when it fell - real world broken, not part of the script. If you watch the scene again, you can see the steer tires are pointing in different directions after it lands. It would pretty much be dead in the water after that, so they would have had to fix it before shooting the rest of the chase - but they probably thought it wise to at least portray some vague notion of some unidentified steering problem after a fall like that. Just one of the drive axles on that truck has like 330% more load-bearing capacity than the steer axle has, and that truck has two drive axles. So the steer axle is much less durable, and also much more complex, because of all the extra moving parts to make it steer.

Watching the T-1000 wag his finger at Sarah, to me, shows how much more self-aware he's becoming than the T-101 in the same span of time. While they are both learning to act more human, the finger wag is more personality than programmed mimicry. He did have a strong baseline though, because when he said to the foster parents "He's a good lookin' boy. Mind if I keep this picture?"" He was not only charming, disarming, and pleasant, but he assimilated CASUAL conversation instead of ROTE conversation, when instead he could have roboticallly said "That IS a good lookinG boy. DO YOU mind if I keep this picture?" I heard someone else say : it's amazing that the t-1000 actor does a good job of a acting like a machine TRYING to act like a person, instead of a ACTOR trying to act like a machine. Also, in case someone else hasnt mentioned it, the T-1000 actor practiced firing a gun without blinking (mall hallway scene) and running without breathing visibly (running after the motor bike).

Wonderful and heartwarming reaction as always with you Madi! Glad you watched the theatrical cut. The extended version has some extra scenes that were cut out for a reason and they really switch the tone to a more comedic one that you see so often these days and it is not fitting for me. But on a 2nd view you might wanna check it out. What else to say about T2? For me it is still the greatest action movie of all time (only rivaled by Mad Max Fury Road) and the best sequel ever. It scarred me for live when I saw it first, I must have been 12 or 14, somewhere there. But it also opened my eyes and the fear for a nuclear war. That explosion scene with Sarah is insane but pretty realistic. And not only does this movie have great practical effects action but also amazing early CGI for the time. It still looks good today. I am SO glad you watched the theatrical cut as your first time watching this movie. So many reaction channels make the mistake of watching the special edition first. You should watch the special edition at some point, but NOT as your first time, as this cut is vastly superior to it. The scenes they cut were cut for good reason. The only scene I think I would have kept in was a scene that they cut where they cut open Arnold's head to reprogram his chip. In the original script, when John asks if he can learn anything he wasn't programmed with, his answer was that his computer is a learning computer but skynet disabled the learning aspect, he says it's "read only" so that he doesn't stray from the mission. So he walks them through the process to change that and remove that block. They ended up cutting the entire scene and simply had Arnold record the line "the more contact I have with people the more I learn" and Edward Furlong saying "cool" and they played that while their faces are off screen so you just assumed they said it.

Great reaction, watching right now enjoying. Theres actually an extended cut of T2 with some extended scenes(with Kyle and Sarah) and a different ending. But to answer your question as "do all terminators look like arnold" yeah they all look like Arnold. When T1 came our I don't think Cameron saw it with more than 2 going on or even a second but since the terminator did well he had a higher budget to work with and its pretty much been a staple in the franchise that all of the T-800 model aka Arnold's model of terminator all look the same.

I disagree. He's a T-800, model 101. I think it's been discussed by the fans that the robot within is the T-800 and "model 101" refers to looking like he does externally. So you could have different T-800 models that look like different humans.

There is a scene in T1 showing that terminators can have different appearance. Also Kyle himself says that he didn't knew how he looked, but he saw other terminators of his type in future. So in universe there is probably dozen different looks of this model. Of course because of financial and marketing reasons all T800s in sequels looks like Arnold. It depends if you want to look at this from lore perspective or from filmmaking perspective. Both statements are true.
@nonconsensualopinion

@@MrBegmar Agreed. Skynet was brilliant enough to engineer this super robot and perform time travel. It wasn't going to goof up by making them all look the same. At one point she incapacitates the T-800 and medics show up to help him thinking he's a human. They remark that he weighs a ton as they unsuccessfully try to move him. I always hated that because in the first movie Kyle talks about how they have bad breath, they sweat, ... everything. They have to use dogs to sniff them out. You can't have a T-800 infiltrator unit weighting 500 pounds or the "terminator test" at each resistance base would be stepping on a scale or walking across something that would snap under their weight. It totally contradicted the whole point of an infiltrator.

You would also thought John would have more respect and manners considering his foster mom is Vasquez from Aliens...oh wait, she had an attitude too! Lol

I just love how many that misses the "gun in the box of roses" as the "you could be mine" song played as John drives away to hack the ATM and went on MTV while they played music videos with clips from the movie even arnie cameo at the end of the video as the terminator is preformed by "guns and roses"

This is one of my all time favorite sci-fi films. Fun fact, the actress who played John's foster mom is the same actress who played Vasquez in Aliens. Also, Linda Hamilton has a twin sister who played younger Sarah in several scenes and flashbacks. Plus, Kyle did have a cameo in the director's cut. You should do an update after watching the extra scenes and the alternate ending.

That's wrong. He was cut out of the director's cut.

'Now he can be John Connor.' my first refrigerator moment: why didn't he?

interesting because in a deleted scene in the first film, SArah looked up Cyberdyne Systems in the phonebook and convinced Kyle Reese to make the pipe bombs to blow up Cyberdyne Systems, but the factory that the Terminator was destroyed in is revealed in a deleted scene to be Cyberdyne Systems. So the original film has two bootstrap and predestination paradoxes, where John sent Kyle so John could be born, and Skynet sent The Terminator so Skynet could be born.

Kyle Reece was born in 2004. He was 25 in 2029, and then in 1984, when he died for John Connor.

First reaction to this that I've seen where someone actually cries at the ending. Totally understandble, everyone feels so strongly towards the fact he has to leave, and it feels earned too, like this movie 100% at every aspect of it!

The scene where the T-1000 runs after John on his motorcycle, Robert Patrick actually could run that fast.

10:41 You want to know something even more terrifying? The actor for the T-1000, Robert Patrick, actually ran down and caught the dirtbike, dragging Edward Furlong off of it more than once. Cameron told Edward to try his best to escape, and told Robert to do his best to catch Edward. What neither James Cameron nor Edward Furlong knew at the time was that Robert was a track star prior to acting. I can imagine the conversation. Cameron: "Alright, Edward, you jump on the dirtbike, start it up, and race out of there. Robert, you run as hard as you can and try to catch him." Robert: "Alright." Edward Furlong on the floor after getting yoinked and slammed: "What the hell man?" Robert, in T-1000 voice: "You did not try hard enough." 13:38 That is Vasquez from Aliens. Exceptional actress that vanished into her roles, and Cameron recognized that and kept her on speed dial for movies after Aliens.
