The newer coyotes are just as reliable and have the same 4valve dual overhead cam setup as the older 4.6. Newer and updated 5.0s that makes a boatload more power compared to the na 4.6 in the mach1. But simular power numbers to the Eaton cobras, 390hp was underrated for the terminator it was more like 450hp and 480 for the 3rdgen coyote. Would love to coyote swap my 04 mach1 someday when I have the time and money for that kind of project. But theirs just something with the sound of the 4.6 4valves I prefer over the newer coyotes.

Depends on what kind of blower and if you are using an intercooler. Non intercooled centrifugal blower: 5-7 PSI. Intercooled maybe 8 or 9 PSI. Mach 1 owners run more on stock set ups but long term durability of the rods/pistons is a concern.

Nothing majorly wrong with it as i take it to a shop pretty regularly. Needing a better paint job. Interior needs a little help as it has 150,000 miles on it...things get worn out. My drean was always to fix this thing up and make it look awesome and stealthy with mods. Its pretty much all facory besides centerforce dual friction Clutch and alternater that went out. Just recently did a full tune up on it. I want to make this bad boy back to lookin like new and better, but need someone that knows there shit and i feel u do. Obviously, willing to pay for parts and labor and take you rd advice with upgrades. Thinking computer tune, pulleys, catback, H&R lowering springs, upgraded air flow, upgraded intercooler, and whatever else u would suggest. Lucky guy to have both of those in the garage! Good job. I've got a black Mach 1 as a weekend car and daily a Camry. It's true that you have to be careful if you supercharge a Mach 1. Mine is Procharged. With 450 whp, tuned by an extremely reputable person, it lasted about a year before it spun a bearing. I ended up replacing the engine with a short block out of a Terminator, then increasing the power to 500 whp which turned out the be the limit of my blower when the compression ratio is that low 8.5:1 in the Cobra engine. I also had to get a Cobra tank with the dual pumps installed to provide the increased fuel delivery under full throttle. Now the transmission has been getting harder to shift lately. The TR-3650 is rated to handle somewhere around half the power that I'm putting through it... so yeah that's not good. Probably going to have to swap that out with a T-56 in the not too distant future. All-in-all, I'm fairly happy with the car right now. It's quick, turns heads and it's a lot of fun to toy with newer expensive cars that aren't expecting to be smashed by a 15 year old Mustang, but ultimately I wish I'd have just bought a Terminator to begin with. I've spent more than I would have if I'd have just done that, and now it's just kind of a Frankenstein of the two models. The hood DOES look bad ass though! ;)

kingcrimson234 Very cool. Sounds like a cool ride. I can’t believe all these people are boosting the new 5.0s at 12:1 compression ratio- then again there are a lot of failures and they can’t figure out why lol. The direct injection helps, but you can understand the risks as you understand your supercharger and 8.5 cr well.

After I bought it I replaced the T5 with a rebuilt Tremec 3650, resurfaced the flywheel and put in a Exedy Stage 1 Organic Clutch kit. Re-did the whole suspension rear control arms upper and lower "BMR", springs "BBK" 1-1/2" drop on all fours, shocks Tokico HP shocks, American muscle Rims 18" and good Year Eagle Tires. Thanks for the info Danny. I had a full bolt on mach a few years ago with quite a bit of suspension work done as well. Great, great cars, but they handle like trash. If you want to get them to handle well, skip all the bolt on stuff I did and just save for coil overs. You will be much happier. I'm going to look at a stock Terminator (other than a pulley) here in a couple weeks. I'm looking forward to taking the next step and joining the club. One big thing I will recommend on both cars, is to do a subframe brace. Of all the things I did on my Mach, this made the biggest difference. Body roll was significantly reduced, and it also eliminated all of the creeks and rattles I had in the interior. For those interested, you can't beat the Kenny Brown Extreme Subframe Matrix. Probably overkill, but it was worth every penny imo.

@Danny Johnson - I am looking at both of course; however, I really need a daily driver as I had been a "good boy" all these years having a relatively inexpensive but reliable Nissan Altima to drive back and forth to work and I had gotten my wife a Toyota Tacoma that she loves, but I would like to go back to a fun car. Therefore, I had been looking at the Fox Bodies as I love those very much from my youth, on the other hand, I don't think that would be the most reliable choice. I therefore started looking at the SN95 Cobras and New Edge Cobras pre-Terminator so I'm not dealing with as many moving parts with the blower and keeping it naturally aspirated. The Mach 1 seemed to be about the same type of deal as the '99 or '01 Cobra, so I am looking at an '04 Mach 1 that I found for about $9k. The biggest issue I'm having right now is the mileage on that car - it has about 137k miles on it or so, and I'm not too crazy about having to rebuild that engine as it is the Modular 4.6 DOHC that I adore; however, that is harder to work on especially given that I live in an apartment complex and therefore don't have a garage to work on it in as we aren't allowed to even change our freaking oil in the apartment parking lot. How many miles do you have on your Mach 1, Danny? Do you think it is work spending almost $8900 on a Mach 1 with over 130k miles? I am not too sure... I found an '01 Cobra convertible with about 97k miles that is being sold for only $8200, but I'm not sure if there might be something wrong with it - not to mention, I am not the biggest fans of convertibles especially up in Colorado LOL :D. What do you think, good sir? Please, anyone else with experience, please weigh in! Sincerely,Kris

Yes, I would go Terminator, Mach 1, 01 Cobra, 99 Cobra. The 99 Cobra had horsepower output issues, so you would want to make sure the car got the recall done. The 2001 was fixed for sure. A 2001 Cobra would be pretty close to a mach 1, with the cobra being slightly heavier from the independent rear suspension. More on the 99:01 kzitem.info/news/bejne/zndp3HukaXd2qX4

The Mach1,in my humble opinion, would be the better choice. The 4.6 in the Mach1 is an ALL aluminum DOHC, you get the choice if a 5sp or an automatic. A HUGE difference is the Mach1 came from the factory with subframe connectors. The automatic in the 2003 is crap,but the 04 was WAY better. The Cobras had more power, no argument there,but that independent rear end really kept it from being better. Most people I know with 03-04 Cobras have swapped solid axles. In the end, it's not an argument, it's just each to their own...they are both AMAZING Mustangs!!!

Danny Johnson also, I'm actually in the market for a mach. I'm looking at one being sold by a very very reputable Ford tuner shop near me. It's super clean and has 58k on it. It's already been tuned but if bought will be Dyno tuned on the spot and the tuner comes with the car. I'm from new york and the prices here are quite high compared to what you stated in the video though. You're not touching a good 03 04 cobra without 20k in hand and mach's can even touch 20's here. I'm looking at 14k for the one I'm interested in and it will be my daily. Was wondering if you had any advice price wise.

I would love to get the Terminator '03-'04 Cobra but I couldn't afford it... Given that I want to get a foxbody Mustang (mid 80s with the four eye setup) and swap in a Terminator + T56 six speed along with a nice rear end with 3.73's ... I really could technically just go and pay the $13,000-$15,000 that most of these '04 Cobras especially are going for that are not convertibles... I just rather a coupe than a convertible; however, the '84, '85, and '86 Mustangs I was looking at - some had T-Tops which I still love :D What do you guys think? I would end up paying about $10,000 at least to get my fox where I want it to be and probably about $2500 for the car unless it has a 302 in it already and has some work done to it then it might be even more than the Cobra LOL

That would be a nice car if you intend to keep it as a garage queen, but take it from me, the Mach 1 will always be over shadowed by the Terminator, and you can get a terminator for that price. That Mach 1 would be worth about $14,000 max to me. It will also be a collectible and the milage is good, but you will be more sure to have a return on the investment if it’s put towards a terminator. That’s my opinion

List price and sale price are two different things. I see people listing for higher prices, but what they sell for (what you see people posting on facebook “hey just bought this for $x,xxx) is still under $10k for mach 1s unless they have very low miles because everyone will say $12k+ is terminator money.” Terminators are being listed for $25k-$30k for low miles or modded well. It really depends on what someone will pay and what they’ll let them go for.

What bolt-ons do you have for your Mach 1? Have you put it on a dyno once the bolt-ons were installed to see how much power it makes at the wheels? How do like the 4.10 gears? I've been debating 3.90 vs 4.10. What speeds (mph) did your redline change to for gears 1-3 going from 3.55 to 4.10? Sorry for so many questions.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
Жыл бұрын
It’s about 10 mph lower in each gear at redline. The 4.10s are great and even pull hard on the freeway, but it is rough to do any extended driving on the freeway at 2,500+rpm. I have a BAMA email tune that is super rich. I put a wideband on it and it was about 12:1 AFR. I don’t Have a dyno number but pulled a 2V who was at 270rwhp, which the mach 1s usually do stock, so it’s gotta be the 300+rwhp or so

I've had both but I can argue that the Cobra is the more expensive route. When you have a capable car such as the Cobra you start pushing it and you start breaking it. I could not afford to dump money into the Cobra after spending twice the amount I did for my previous Mach 1 so it stayed pullied until I had to sell it when I transferred college. My friend however did have the money and he got a Whipple but he ended up having to rebuild his motor, trans, and IRS. Meaning he spent twice as much as the Mach 1 then he had to rebuild all of his drive train because he kept making more power. I do not see the point in this, I think getting a Mach 1 and building the motor and drive train will be cheaper because you'll have to do it in the Cobra anyways if you really want power. I am out of college now and going to a Mach 1 again. Honestly, the Cobra looks better from the outside but from the inside the Mach 1 is much more entertaining with that shaker scoop and the sexy hood design (the car is meant to make me happy not others) plus a Mach 1 with 99 01 front bumper looks killer IMO
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
6 жыл бұрын
Kun Lee Well, anything that happens to the cobra would have happened to the mach 1. Keep in mind as well that if you are pushing your cobra to the max and planning to build it (and spend the same money you’d spend on the mach 1) you can be smart and remove the factory cobra parts and sell them before they are broken and make much more money than you could for your old mach 1 parts. People will still pay $2k for a t56 and so you’re able to upgrade to a magnum with $2k in your pocket. Same goes with the engine- you can easily get $6k for your stock cobra engine and begin a build with $6k in your pocket. Same goes with the irs. You can sell it for $1,300 and build a sra for that same money, so you’re much better off if you do it right. Most of all, the cobra will always be worth more than the mach 1, so if you do it right you’ll never lose you’re investment. If you build a mach 1 you’re money is gone
@tommylee4135
6 жыл бұрын
Danny Johnson I see where youre coming from as far as Cobra parts having more value but when you say you cant make your money back with the Mach 1, that goes for the Cobra too. Think of the market availble for a fully built Cobra, you wont have many people with that much cash available so you're going to have to drop the price or wait quite a long time to sell which will hurt if you're in a pinch. I doubt you will see any noticeable return in the mods you put into your Cobra just like the Mach 1. I see people trying to sell a fully build Cobra for ~30k privately listed but the mod list looks like a ~40k investment on top of the price of their Cobra. I guess you can pull out the factory Cobra parts and install built parts like you said and swap them out when you decide to sell but you are talking about much higher initial investment on a 25 year old car none the less. I really wish you can change my mind because you seem to have a lot of experience and knowledge of these cars than I but I'm still not sold on the Cobra over the Mach 1. I loved driving it but I am really not sure about the benefits vs cost of the car if I plan to modify and make power. Btw we are following each other on IG :)
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
6 жыл бұрын
well, they are 15 years old, maybe that was a typo? The main point I was making in my video was I was looking at over $20k in a build (me doing all the labor) to get where the cobra I bought was. So with the investment of my mach 1+ mods I’m looking at $30k for the same car I bought (my cobra) for $23k, already built and with the whipple and I can sell the cobra still for $23k easy whereas the mach 1 would be lucky to get $15k built. People just don’t pay much for a mach 1 with the cobra as an option that’s holding its value. You also see people put $5k into an upgraded blower on the cobra and still get at least $3k more if they sell it that way whereas mach 1s would require $3k for an eaton swap or $13k for a cobra drive train and may not even go up a few thousand in value. I’ve seen terminator swapped ones that won’t even sell for $15k and eaton ones that only handle 450hp don’t sell for more than $2k over their going rate because they are limited to 450hp. At any rate, it may be worth it to others to build their car, but for just the price in parts I added a second asset I can sell and both cars are still worth what I paid for them. I guess that’s just my preference
@tommylee4135
6 жыл бұрын
Yes very much a typo! I see where you are coming from in terms of losing more money with the Mach 1 when it comes to selling. I guess the significant decision making I have to do is deciding on the trade offs on losing money when it comes to selling and if I can spend around $23k as an initial investment for a Cobra vs less than $10k for the Mach 1 with about the same mileage and condition. I am just getting started with my career so this is a big issue. I appreciate your feedback, I have some thinking to do to make sure I'll be happy with my purchase of either car, but I definitely cannot afford both like you, not until I move up in my career and get a house to keep them but that's a long ways away
