This was so helpful! My wife & I read the rules together & played our 1st game this week, but it just felt off based on our previous experience with the original TM game. After watching this video I see we were playing a few things incorrectly that made the game seem harder than it should be (a few of the rules were unclear to us and your explanation was different from our assumptions). Much appreciated! I'm now looking forward to trying it again.

Great video, Rodney - as always. Question re: Event cards in Ares Expedition. Some cards specify to, say, raise the temperature two steps; while others, indicate to raise your TR one step and flip an ocean tile. In the second case, since flipping an ocean tile would normally raise your TR one step, are you raising your TR two steps with that card? In short, if an event card specifies actions which would "normally" raise your TR but doesn't specify doing that, what do you do? (As examples, Ice Cap Melting says "flip an ocean tile" - when you do that, I'm assuming you also raise your TR 1 step. Comet would end up raising your TR two steps since you raise temp one step and flip an ocean tile. But what about Nitrogen-Rich Asteroid. It specifies to raise your TR two steps but also to raise the temp one step - would that then prompt one more TR step up for a total of 3 on that card?)

Thank you, but I have a specific question regarding where to put the cubes on my playing card... You said that the section on the left is your production capability and the bigger space on the right is for what you actually have. However I guess I need an explanation of the terms on the card. I'm looking at the Space Heaters green project card for the example. It says in the ability section "during the production phase this produces two heats". In this case do I add two heats to the big square on the right or do I increase my production rate to 2 on the left side? Would love an example of each scenario! Thank you!
@WatchItPlayed

It's a bit tricky to explain the specifics of cards, since I don't have the game in front of me, but I can refer to the video to help. If you go to here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/r5io0ZqrmJSHdYIfeature=shared&t=732 this shows an example explains that benefits with diagonal lines behind them specifically adjust your production tracks. If there are other cards on screen you want to ask about, provide a time stamp and I'll see if I can help.

Hi, Rodney! Quick question. Isnt't there a mistake at 12:33? You say the production gets increased, but if I read correctly, it seems you only get 1MC and 2 plants, not the whole production increase.

Nope, this works the way it is shown in the video. Those effect increase your production of those tracks by the amount shown. Hope that helps!
@kylesmorgabord5592

I see where you got confused Gustavo, with the wording right? “This produces” is keeping with the theme of companies investing in projects. So if you “invest” in a project (buy a card) that produces MC/heat/plants, you keep track of your ongoing total production with the production track.

Hello. Great video. I am a bit stuck on one aspect though! Do you take you corporation MC during the production phase? The instructions read "each player collects resources equal to the production on their green cards, corporation card, and place on the TR track". So if my corporation card granted me 51 MC at the start of the game do I also take this in the production phase?
@WatchItPlayed
2 жыл бұрын
The MC value in the top right corner of your Corporation Card is your "starting" resources, and you only collect those once, at the beginning of the game. If your Corporation shows the normal symbol for MC production in the bottom left (like you find on other cards), then that contributes to the MC you gain each turn.

I have a question about requirement cards. There are Production / Action cards that have a requirement of "purple or lower temperature". Does this mean a Production card in play will no longer add to production once temperature grows higher? And abilities of an Action card can no longer be used?
@WatchItPlayed
2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for. In short the requirements are for "playing" the card in the first place, not for using it after it's been played. Once it's in play, you can use it no matter what else changes later. Hope that helps!
@llevity
2 жыл бұрын
@@WatchItPlayed For what it's worth, I consulted the handy index, and video first, twice, and still wasn't sure. My confusion as the fact that it puts the requirements in text by the checkbox at the bottom, as well, near the benefit, so it felt like that might be saying "only get this if this is still true." Thank you for clarifying!
@tegq
2 жыл бұрын
@@WatchItPlayed I just picked up the game and was wondering this myself. For example, we played the Extreme-Cold Fungus card which requires a purple temperature in order to play. Its action allows for a microbe to be placed on a card. But as the game went on the temperature was raised past purple so we were unsure if the action still applies. Considering that it's only a 10 MC card makes it a strong card if it does. On the other hand, it's "cold" fungus.

There’s some things I just can’t figure out with this game and don’t understand. On our player sheet we increase our sliders by the amount that is given on a project card when it is played, so if a project card gives 4 MC in the stripe box, I move my cube 4 slots forward on the MC track correct? What’s confusing me is that same card says “gain 4 MC during the production phase.” So does this mean I get 4 from the track and another 4 for being in the production phase? Or do I only advance 4 MC slots every production phase? I also don’t understand when we even advance our tracks. It’s from the striped box correct?
@WatchItPlayed
2 жыл бұрын
The text is explaining what the symbol means. It's basically repeating what the symbols are telling you (in other words it's saying "because you just moved your slider up 4 spaces on the MC track, you're now going to gain 4 MC during each of your Production phases". Know what I mean?

12:12 Thanks for that, cause it was not clear in the rulebook and I messed up my first game. Watch out in the rulebook about the Development Phase. It doesn't mention at all that you get to move the markers right away. In the example with Bob on page 13, they don't mention that he also gets to move his marker for Heat by 3. They don't mention it except that you get the Lightning icon. But if you go further into the book page 15, suddenly they mention that Bob had already moved those markers on his player board when he played those cards. Anyway, for newbies like me who messed up lol

Impressed by how you even make the stripe in your shirt perfectly line up with both your examples of TFM in the beginning of your video. 😂Sorry to see that you didn't get your hands on the Canadian version Torrarforming Moars though. All jokes aside, thank you for the best bg videos on yt. 🙏🏻

I have a question. You said players may resolve each phase at the same time but how does that work when flipping ocean tiles in phase 3?? since the rewards are different you would need some player order I would believe.
@WatchItPlayed

As a general rule, turns don't have to be taken, but I believe I also mention what to do if you need (or want) to resolve a phase in player order.

Thank you for video! So MC based standard projects are not required to trigger, right? Only heat and plant must be used, not MC?

Yes and no. There is no limit to the number of cards you can have in your hand during the round. However, at the end of the round, see here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/r5io0ZqrmJSHdYI

@@WatchItPlayed One needs but look at your shelves to know how true that is! Just a thought but have you guys considered an annual voting type format where your viewers get to vote on a game they'd love your take on based off a list? Or a charity/auction concept where viewers may bid on a requested rules video of their choice, with the money then going to a charity of your choice 😃 Not to dictate, obvs, just a fan with a surplus of caffeine and ideas, and the cheek to give unsolicited advice 😉

So if I were to compare this to the original Terraforming Mars game that I own, I would say that this seems to be Terraforming Mars-LITE. Does that seem accurate? There seem to be differences, such as the phase selection, tile placements (obviously), and production of items to an extent, but other than that it seems very similar.

I don't know if I'd call it Lite. As a point of reference, both tutorials are about the same length. I'd say it's TMars with a twist.

Currently I haven't read the rules but what if during the action round 2 players can turn 8 plants in for oxygen and the oxygen is 1 step away from max. Wich player gets to go 1st, to get the points as well? Is it clockwise from the one who chose it and what if both players chose that phase and got 8 plant cubes?

Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for (Global Parameters).

There is no turn order for player actions, so all players would expend plants and get the bonus. The rules state that as long as a track is not maxed at the beginning of a phase, every player can increase it and gain the bonus until the end of that phase. And in the case of plants and heat, if you are able to increase the corresponding track at the end of the action phase by using the associated standard action, you must do so.
