Just saw this! Thank you for showing this one! I had a great time watching my gameplay and getting my gameplay criticized :D I HAVE learned how to micro Vikings at this point, and at this point I do try to keep my turrets to very specific locations and only when I know they'll be useful now! I honestly think there's nothing wrong with throwing down some extra turrets if you're not a GM player. They just cost like 1.5 marines. And the amount of air harass happening in most games make it so that if you're not able to identify that it's coming, it's better to waste the minerals to have it than to not have them when you need them. You're way better off improving your macro and micro than cutting some corners like that. Unless you're in GM you're not in a situation where those couple of marines difference of minerals is going to be what decided who won. I think some dude made it to Master just spamming hellions to showcase how important macro is, lol. When you get good enough to reliably scout (and understand what you're scouting) when enemy air is going to come, that's when you can start cutting corners and only build them when necessary.

@Niosus
Жыл бұрын
Maybe a hot take, but I also don't mind building a few extra spores. Sure, with proper micron it's not needed and I can simply move my queens between bases. But while that saves minerals, it costs attention and APM. Building an extra spore or two when you know the enemy is going air just shuts all that harass down immediately, so I can focus of my macro. Even in diamond you'll see people fly in once or twice to probe for a weakness, and then just stop trying at all. Not everyone plays to reach GM. This may suck against a GM, but I'm happy doing it in diamond.
@masktuxedo77

I usually build a turret or two behind mineral line if I scouted an incoming lib harrassment and I have no viking. The reason is Im not sure if the turret in the mineral line would reach them if the siege from behind. to be fair, he isn't entirely wrong. there is a certain level on the ladder where it genuinely considered bad mannered to stay in the game if things went as badly as they did for poultry there at the beginning of the second game. *but* thats because by staying in you're essentially implying that your opponent doesn't have the skill to go for the throat and finish you off. that said when your opponent shows that they're not really fond of...finishing you off when they have the chance then there's no reason to give them that credit. Love it when people whine about "how the game is played" without actually understanding *why* its played that way. good stuff. (not referring to you, im talking about turtle. just to be clear) and obviously in the frist game there was only one brief moment where turtle had the opportunity to win, and that was right after he broken the entrance to poultry's base...and then just took his army home. once he decided to leave he was behind...because poultry was way ahead on economy.

Somehow, this was the most tense pair of SC2 games I've ever watched. The whole second game had me in white-knuckled anxiety, rooting for Pudgypoultry to overcome that deranged bag of hammers. Maybe I was just projecting my younger self onto Pudgy, especially after PiG's comments about remembering what it's like to be new to RTS games. I certainly remember being this new and running into people like SneakyTurtle online, but I was never able to overcome them. Pudgy though, they grit their teeth, focused on the game instead of the chat, and then Florencio-style drilled a hole in Turtle's shell and filled it with leeches--man, it's a kind of justice my kid self never got. It's incredibly cathartic, and I'm so damn glad Pudgypoultry came out on top and got to lay out those spicy retorts at the end. Pudgy's got my respect and my gratitude for weathering through, and my best wishes on their climb up the ladder. Despite all that however, I hope SneakyTurtle gets some help or something because holy shit--there's tasty salt, and then there's unrestrained psychopathic hatred. This ain't the world championships, there's nothing on the line here except your time and whatever ego you put on display. Death threats over two lost matches in a game that's nearly 13 years old is beyond extreme.

The thing with silver league turrets though. At this level when you have no eco, no production or both there's several things that happen. Drops fly through the turrets. This wouldn't be an issue if you had 5 rax and 2 factories making reinforcements or had army positioned close enough. On this level neither of these are true. Turrets are also badly placed so banshees and libs tend to find gaps through. So yeah, while generally a terrible idea, there is a reason why people build those silver league turrets. That being said, there's no explanation for game 2 especially. My god.

Hard to call that an 'accidental' win when your opponent just flat out stops building SCVs, doesn't expand until he finds out his opponent snuck out two planetaries, and just keeps building the same small groups of barely upgraded units to die move-commanding to a much smaller number of units and static defense turrets. It was turkey's game to win and he not only snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, but Pudgy did exactly what needed to be done against an opponent who has that kind of terrible tunnel-vision - keep expanding and rebuild elsewhere while they're too distracted thinking they're winning by killing the base that no longer matters.
@gam1ngfr3ak
Жыл бұрын
Even then I'm not sure - they had rebuilt a good deal of their infrastructure and it went undiscovered for long enough. If anything their old main base made for a great distraction. Turtle thinks that Poultry is raging as they're losing their main base and all their buildings. When in reality they're just macro-ing and continuing to build up. The game was definitely not in their favor for quite a long time but that doesn't mean you just stop playing if you still have a bank and a position to win from. It genuinely is from the incompetence of Turtle that Poultry could get back into that game at all. And we can see how in the first game despite Turtle claiming it was "over" Poultry actually had the lead in workers!! Especially at a low level I don't think you should expect players to correctly determine when a game is "over" - we can see from these two examples that they have a 50% success rate at determining that. Which is a coin flip, it's not great odds if your a statistician. I've been cannon rushed before when playing as Zerg and because I'm not good enough at responding to it I simply escaped with some drones and took 3 extra bases. It's a setback to be sure - but as Poultry pointed out in their game all Turtle had to do was actually continue to build infrastructure instead of starting at the marines taking out buildings and it would have been an easy win. If you stop playing the game before you've actually won it then that's on you not on your opponent.
@pudgypoultry

To be 100% honest, it's just that when I'm playing a competitive game I try to hold on as long as I can and force them to end it. Not that I fly away and prolong it, that's not sportsmanlike nor is it worht my time. But if they don't stop me from rebuilding I'm just gonna rebuild. Just so happened that this time it really mattered lol. I do the same kind of thing in any game that I go to a tournament in. Game ain't over until the score screen pops up and I'm going to make them work for the score screen if not claw my way back.

I think SneakyTurtle could really get behind the rule in Trashcans league that says if the player refuses to leave a lost game they will be thrown out of the tournament.

You know they have lost contact with reality when they can't complain about balance in a TvT so they just insult the other player 💀. Because otherwise they would have LOVED to blame the balance for that all-so-OP protoss.
